And to voodemar, yes I can agree that another layer could be about illumination (in a good manner, not complot thing and so), and that it could have to do with her father. And to other posters, yes it could have to do with sexual abuse 'not ready for the (sin) fall'. But.. does she pass through a personal experience on this or the collective female soul crying out for sense, for being raped so many times, and so often at such a young age (within families or not). Oh yes, I forgot to mention here... This is about the man - woman thing... I think the deepest layer goes back to Adam and Eve... "was not ready for the fall"... And that it is very dangerous to trust men, because they tend to lie and deceive (more than women). Listen to the song 'The man is too strong' (Dire Straits). And combines some themes: Please mother, forgive me, for I have done wrong, the man is too strong, I have rewritten history with my armies and crooks. There you hear the male energy asking forgiveness to the higher harmonismes (also called god or godess). And it is a confession the male anergy makes because of being so wrong so often. He raped, deceived, rewrote the essence of the bible (church), made war... and the secret within Madonna is hidden deeply, deeply. And this secret is required to create heaven on earth. For me... It is about her secret. Yes. And it is about the essence of god. Of goodness. But I think she herself is not aware of this knowledge. The song came in inspiration, and as happens to many writers when you ask 'what is it about' they say: I do not know, or give a explanation which only concerns the first 'meaning' layer (songs have often several layers). And Madonna choose her name not for nothing. She is THE representative of feminine side on this world. Of of Maria an Eve. She can become the QUEEN of the world, when she finds the key... When you listen very carefully to all her 'greatest hits' songs, almost in all songs a very, very important messages for humankind is encrypted. 'Borderline': the true meaning of the Borderline syndrome (psychiatry makes this far to complicated, and makes up all kind of theories, just listen to the song and you know enough). Or material girl: " Raise my intrest and I'll give you credit". Banks to the opposite, and do it wrong. She sings exactly the opposite of what people think of Madonna (that she is a material girl with no wisdom): girls, express yourself, material is not the selection criteria for a boy, it is his GOODNESS. And... when woman select men on goodness, men will start to tend to become gooder, and this will lead to a more heavenly world.. But, beware, the essences in Madonna's song are the hardest to unveil, and have the most important messages for this world. Strange but true.
