The Pretty Reckless – Panic Lyrics 13 years ago
Not to state the possibly obvious but it could be about a mental disorder? Bipolar or Borderline maybe? It's kind of a "I hate you, don't leave me" thing, in my opinion. Generally I feel like there's a lot of conflicting feelings in this song. The narrator is saying that she loves (is IN love) with the person but at the same time, she hates them. It's a mix of wanting to be left alone and wanting to purposely drag this person down with them. Also, mania is literally over enthusiasm/excitement, to an unhealthy degree. So this person may make her so happy and so depressed at the same time. Anyone who has a mental illness will know where I'm coming from with saying that the narrator seems to be giving up on herself and telling the other person "Get out while you still can"

In a nutshell: You make so happy and so sad, you need to leave me because I'm beyond saving, I'm too fucked up. If you don't leave, I'll just drag you down with me.

Woe, Is Me – If Not For Ourselves Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm really not sure what the song is about...but I'll give my only theory since there haven't been any other posts describing their ideas. The best I can come up with is this song might be talking about the music industry. "losing your sense of self" could be criticizing the industry for the music they are putting out that don't have the emotion and soul that other bands do. Example, you get artists who don't write their own material, who use auto-tune not just to add effects but to fix their vocals to sound better...then you have raw musicians who built themselves up from nothing and made themselves something.
"Who are you, to tell us who we are?
Who are you, you're a fiend, you're a liar
And I will summon the hands of a fighter
And you will know, who we are"
Could be talking about failed attempts at getting signed, people telling them they don't have a sound that'll sell, etc..and they counter with that they won't give up until their material is heard.

I don't know, I could be TOTALLY off. It's just my interpretation. :)

Since October – The Way You Move Lyrics 13 years ago
It sounds like a love song to me, but I'm not very religious. As a quick note though, just because you're a christian band doesn't mean that every song you write has to be about God. This could tie into God indirectly and the only one's who are in Since October. We have no way of knowing. It really seems like it's about a guy who's in love with how this girl presents herself, from how she walks down to simple hand gestures. Maybe they've been together before, they do repeat "I know that I've already been here before" a lot. "And I promised myself no more" may mean that they've broken up and he's sworn to himself he wouldn't go back to her but he feels like the relationship is perfect, in some obsessive love kind of way. I can agree where Alien93 says that he's returning to the source of his pain. It sounds like she's hurt him in the past but something keeps drawing him back to her. Either way, whether indirectly tied to God or a love song or even a unrequited love song...this is a great song. :)

Every Avenue – Happy the Hard Way Lyrics 13 years ago
Just heard this song and I agree with MusicAddict. I think they're basically saying that even if two people love each other, they still owe it to each other to break up if they aren't happy together. They're holding on as long as they can because they do care about one another but I think memories is probably what's keeping them together, rather than being happy with the present. Obviously it comes down to them only being together because the relationship is a safety net. Maybe they've been together a long time and it's all they know. Been there. Great lyrics, great band. :)

Dream Theater – About to Crash Lyrics 13 years ago
It's pretty interesting how everyone assumes Bipolar when that isn't the only disorder that could fit this song. Borderline Personality Disorder, anyone? Others too, I'm sure.

Every Avenue – This One's A Cheap Shot Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm a little late with posting, but I JUST heard this song... haha. :)

I think you guys have the right idea, but I think it's more about arguments. I think the turning blue part is saying they're expecting certain things from each other that they aren't getting. They sound really dependent on each other. It switches from "you've got me" and "I've got you" a lot in the song, but with the same sentences which implies they both are disappointed in the relationship. Also, to jump back a little bit, they also say "can't put down our pride" which kind of reminds me of the fact that when two stubborn people are arguing about something, they always want the last word and even if they are wrong, they don't want to apologize (some think apologizing hurts their pride) On a final note, they're basically just holding onto a relationship neither are completely happy with because it's what's become comfortable. It's a security blanket, so to speak.

Her Space Holiday – The Doctor and the DJ Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't know, maybe I'm taking this song too literal, but the "putting the black book away" part makes me think maybe she was a prostitute? I suppose you could also take it as that she's been in and out of relationships, thinking about the learning names part. I'm not for sure. It's obviously generally about a woman who was very depressed and had a difficult life, and a man ended up sweeping her off her feet and marrying her. It turned out to be the best thing they both ever did, by the sounds of it.

I think it really adds to this song that the singer mentions the misery as well as the happiness to come. You always appreciate love more when you've had nothing but misery in the past.

About the title, is there some kind of hidden meaning or does it just happen to be their professions? If it's their professions, I guess my prostitute idea is out.

Curious..

Seether – Never Leave Lyrics 13 years ago
This song really is one of the best I've heard by Seether. I can agree with the other interpretations up there. As far as some saying its about love and others saying it's about addiction...what's so different from the two? Some love, even if others won't admit it, is more obsession than love. There's a fine line between the two, in my opinion. When you're addicted to a drug, it's very similar to feeling in love. Maybe this is nonsense to some of you...but it makes sense to me.

Placebo – Meds Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is pretty straight forward. Although, I don't understand why people are relating the fact of being on meds with being a psychopath. Even if it's an anti-psychotic that they're talking about, there's a different between psychotic breaks and being a full blown psychopath. I also think that if this was talking about pregnancy, the girl wouldn't be singing "Baby, did you forget to take your meds?" Only the male would be. But who knows.

Anyway, though. I definitely think it's about a person with a psychological disorder who stops taking their medication. I think where he says "I was alone, falling free." doesn't necessarily have to mean they're literally falling. It could be falling from a manic episode into a depressive episode, which leads to suicide/suicide attempt. "Passers by were looking at me as if they could erase it." Could mean that his emotional stability is obvious to strangers, which isn't uncommon with someone who has a serious psychological condition, Schizophrenia for example. As the song goes on, he says "I was alone, standing over the ledge." That can be taken in a literal sense, or it can be taken as being able to see that he's falling from an emotionally stable life into a chaotic life (sex, drugs, complications)

Maybe I only see it this way being diagnosed with a personality disorder, myself. Either way, I like thinking this is a logical explanation to what the song could mean to the writer.

Crossfade – Dead Skin Lyrics 14 years ago
For the most part, I agree with the above posts. Although, I do have a slightly different opinion on it. This probably isn't what it was written to be taken as, but it's a different perspective.

Taking it from a recovering addict's perspective, he's obviously using, I agree to that much. The part that I see differently is "When I'm awake I can taste how bitter I've become" Maybe the girlfriend left him -=because=- he's an addict, or whatever other reason, and the term awake is referring to being sober, rather than taking it literally. So medicating to keep from being "awake"? Maybe not, but it's what the song means to me.

Three Days Grace – Last to Know Lyrics 14 years ago
Something very similar to this happened to me so I can relate to this song a lot. I think it's about a girl cheating on the guy with a friend, and at first it destroys him and he's lost. Towards the end, he realizes that even though it hurt, he's okay now and he can move on and good luck with the girl, but he'll end up "Left For Dead" too.

Breaking Benjamin – What Lies Beneath Lyrics 14 years ago
I take this song the same, but differently than others. Instead of her not caring, I take it as being numb to what she's doing to him. Maybe I see it this way because I'm in that situation myself. In a mental disorder sort of sense, say Bipolar, Borderline, Schizophrenia, anything that's capable of a psychotic break. That's what this song reminds me of. He's holding onto her, or what she used to be.

Orgy – Make Up Your Mind Lyrics 14 years ago
This is my favorite song on the album. It also reminds me of a situation I am in. My girlfriend and I were together for 3 years, we broke up about a week and a half ago. I know that there aren't many people who can offer her what I'm willing to do for her, and she's so convinced that she's my downfall that our relationship doesn't get far. She doesn't realize that I fade away a little more everyday, just like in the song.

This song says all the words I can't say, so it's definately a favorite. :)

Flyleaf – Again (Album version) Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's about the narrator telling the person (maybe a relationship or just a friendship)that she knows life is taking a toll on them but if they believed in a higher power (Assuming God in this case) it could be easier on them. She mentions the word "again" pretty often hinting that this person used to believe but their faith is either slipping or lost. It's obvious they're struggling, due to the chorus. Overall, it's obviously about someone losing their faith and her telling them to regain it to make life smoother.
