Laura Marling – Alas, I Cannot Swim Lyrics 11 years ago
To me, this song is about denouncing the idea that we must always be doing something. All of these things (like a boy she loves, fame, and money) are available to the singer if she would just work for them. And at the beginning of the song, she buys in to the idea that if she does not constantly work for them, she'll wind up miserable. ("I'll live my life regretting that I never jumped in.")

But by the end of the song, she realizes that it's okay to be doing nothing. ("I would rather be dry than held up by a golden gun, saying 'work more, earn more, life more, have more fun'.") And she will ultimately be happier if she just allows herself to be lazy sometimes.

fun. – Why Am I the One Lyrics 12 years ago
Also, "it's always never like this" should be "the sun was never like this". It's probably a reference to a song by The Format, where Nate refers to California as "the sun". He's comparing his life now to his life when he lived there.

This song is beautiful. I love it when the strings come in - pure genius.

The Format – Inches and Falling Lyrics 13 years ago
I've always thought the line "we used to take trips, we swore we'd never take pictures / pictures only prove you can't convince," meant that even on vacation, he wouldn't take any pictures with the girl, because he knew they would just end in a breakup, and having pictures of them together only prove he couldn't convince her to stay. And I think those pills he sings about are anti-depressents: he gets into a relationship, is happy for a while, then they break up and he gets depressed... then the cycle repeats itself.

Also, the sarcasm level of this song is OVER 9000!

Paramore – 7 Years in the Making Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm so sad this song won't be on the album. ): I hope at least some parts of it make it on, because the more I read it the more I love the lyrics. I think it's about all the problems the band had from late 2007 to 2008, when they canceled those UK tour shows, and Hayley is trying to remember where everything went wrong and is wishing that they could just remember how and why they started doing this, hoping it'll make it right. It's also about not wanting to give up, even though sometimes she thinks it'd be (as she said herself) "easier if she wasn't making music with these guys" because they're all friends but the pressure always gets to them.

Anyway. I love these lyrics. I hope they record the song in the future... And yes the 7 years and 20 years ago is accurate, because Hayley met Josh and Zac when she was 14 and she was 20 when she wrote the song.
