For the most part, I consider myself to have a fairly rigid worldview – I tend to see a lot of issues as black or white. This is something many would consider old-fashioned compared to a typical, modern-day Christian. But when I consider the mentality of the fundamentalist, I find even less in common. I consider legalistic Christianity just as flawed as many non-believers would and I’ve purposefully built upon that divide for years through Demon Hunter. As I see it, in terms of keeping my own faith, the odds are stacked against me. But I would rather die with my faith intact than live to see it dwindle away. We knew that we wanted to add a string section to one of the songs on the record, but didn’t know which song until the very end. Slight the Odds became the clear choice with its cinematic-inspired opening riff. As we began to formulate a final track listing, it became all the more fitting that, as the closing track (to the standard album), we would end on an epic note." |
