What I find amazing is all the arguing over what this song means. What it means to Jesse Lacey we may never know but it is obvious the lyrics are very subjective. They mean what they mean to you. Sure it could be about falling away from God and feeling guilty and things going bad since he fell away. It could be about giving up on God because he lost faith. It could be about falling from grace in life in general. It could be about finding a girl that if he'd only been the person he used to be he could've had, and he wishes she could save him. It MIGHT be a metaphor for the clarity of mind you get right after you orgasm... doesn't matter. It means what it means to you. |

I think this song incorporates alot of different themes in it, including drug abuse, psychosis, war, and the deluded masses. How sedentarey, destructive, and insane modern culture has become leading to mass consumerism, the over zealous patriots accepting war without a second thought, taking a pill for every little ache or itch, all the drug use in America, etc. etc. |

Ok here's my two cents. Obviously a groom overhears a conversation about his bride to be. HE bcomes angry. It says "I'D chime in." Now to me that says that the groom WOULD do this but like mike4910 kind of said he says "Wait no...I don't need to go in there causing a scene. I can handle this with poise and rationality. I just need to figure this out." Like alot of people have been saying he says to himself once he calms down "Well atleast we've saved the marriage in a way." I think the lineabout pouring the champagne and the toast maybe sarcastic. Just my thoughts on it. |

Well there are a couple interesting theories but I think it's about a Father who had a hard life and rasied his daughter sort of sheltered as to make sure she didn't go down the same road he did. The 20 years of clean I think is about virginity or maybe just pureness in general. She's been raised sheltered and even though the father is trying to keep her pure she wants to go out and experience life on her own. Just my two cents. |

I didn't really think of it this way but after listening to it and reading these comments I do also think it's about a rich kid who even though he has all the things he'd ever need, he's not happy. When I hear this song though I'm reminded of that feeling you get when you've got no direction and just not sure what to do with your life. You know you need to make a change but you just don't know how. |

I always thought he said "the camel ride makes you seasick" not "the camera makes you seasick" because I've heard riding on a camel can make you feel seasick/motion sick. I also thought instead of saying "It's the same sound" he was saying "It's the city of sin." So I was picturing this long ride on a camel in the desert during a sand storm to this big remote city or palace or something.

After reading some of the interpretations and reading the lyrics I think that this song is about a guy and a girl who fall for each other, or maybe just one of them falling for the other but it's not mutual. To me it seems the guy is just a regular everyday type of guy and the girl is a bit of an outcast and has had a rough life and they end up learning from each other. So basically like a 90's romantic comedy/teen love story. Sorry if I sound like I'm just parroting the other interpretations but like I said I did read some of them and kind of came to my own conclusions. |

I used to always skip this song but one day I was driving and wasn't really paying attention to the songs and I let this one play and realized I loved it. I can see why some people would say it's about drug use, but it sounds like it's just about narcolepsy and trying to keep awake to me. I don't suffer from narcolepsy but I relate to this song so much. Ever since I was a kid I didn't like having to sleep at night because of anxiety issues. I understand the song so well. There's many nights I start nodding out and I try and stay awake but I know that I can only stay up for so long before I eventually just crash. I just want to do anything but sleep but I know I'm fighting a losing battle. It's a strange feeling being up at 4:30 in the morning and feeling like you are the only person awake in the entire world. |

This song is just so beautiful. It's the song that made me dig Mogwai so much. This one and Glasgow Mega Snake. The Kirsk theory seems most likely but it could also be about something totally different. I always thought the lyric "So we take to memories" was "So we take to never leave." I was WAY off. Does the video for this song make anybody else kinda sad? |

I'm pretty sure he says "To drink my love away" or "dream my love away" not to treat me love as me Maybe "To treat MY love as me." Or that's what I always heard. But the first three lines make me think of somebody figuring ou there friend is an Alien and then making lots of money by seeling them to the circus. I'm almost positive that's not what it's about though. |
