Few know that Fred Durst was in a very special period in his life when he wrote this. After returning home from his three year journey across Africa and India, he cited a very profound moment when he had when he swam across The Black Sea(The Hot Dog Flavored Water). In his experience he understood the true nature of man and God, and he spoke truly of our meaning in this life when he sung "Hooo Haaa Haaaw! Listen up baby You.. can't.. bring.. me.. (bring me).. down" Few will ever come close to this apex of literature and only some will be able to comprehend it's full meaning. In conclusion, Mr. Durst stands above ordinary "fuckers" like you and me because he has a vision, something we cannot see, but we must blindly follow him as he travels on this musical adventure. When Paul McCartney sat on the piano to write "Hey Jude" (one of the most overrated songs of all time), his intentions were no greater than to create a pleasant pop song to enjoy on a summer afternoon. However, when Mr. Durst literally humped the camera in the music video for "Take A Look Around" (Mission Impossible 2), his intentions were not for money or enjoyment (though there was much of both). He aspired not only to create glorious art, but to move us, to make us feel as if the whole world were crumbling beneath us, and only by "getting the fuck up" could we ever swing on the nuts of Fred Durst. I'm thinking this song is about an old person. One whose family has left them (even though they assure them on the phone) and lives alone, with the mice, with nothing to do. No one calls, forgotten and old. The third verse maybe implying the character called for a car to go dancing, but wasn't taken seriously. (Are they in on it too?) " I can pour my own drinks" shows their struggle to not be babied while still dealing with the loneliness of independence. But mostly I've always thought it's about an old person because they wear an evening gown. I figure that's an old person custom. |

I gotta say I agree with the first one, this is about him knocking up a girl and she leaves him. That would explain the number on him. In the morning, or when he first met her, he was a hero, and all was good, but by night, after he got her pregnant, he's not a hero. I think pregnancy best explains: "and I'll build a house inside of you I'll go in through the mouth I'll draw three figures on your heart one of them will be me as a boy one of them will be me one of them will be me watching you run" He'll build something inside of her, he kissed her. She'll have the figure of a young him, (the child) him, and her running away. |
