The Moody Blues – Watching And Waiting Lyrics 8 years ago
@[Digi:12177]-G I often wonder what poets like the Moody Blues think of the crass and unsympathetic nature of the modern world after writing so much poetry yearning for and exhorting us to reach for something finer, something touched with grace. I miss the 60s, when we were still innocent, still hopeful - before we gave up and gave in.

Now, it seems like we all just hate each other. Will we ever be hopeful again?

@[pinyonj:12176] This is exactly my take on this song except more about our human journey on this earth - not necessarily a quest for enlightenment.

For a long time in my life, before I met my husband, I used to feel this way. I cried every time I heard it. I yearned for both the connection and freedom that the song describes. I wanted so much to be understood - to know that I was not alone in my odd uniqueness.

Now I have learned that I don't need that external validation (although my ego still likes to be stroked from time to time). That the most important validation comes from self. That said, human beings are social animals and we don't do well when we are isolated. We need connection to stay sane.

This is my favorite Moody Blues song - still - after all of these years. So poignant - and apt.

Bronski Beat – Why Lyrics 8 years ago
Mark this day: June 26, 2015 - the day our society recognized gay people as human. A benchmark in social evolution. It's been a long 31 years since this song was written until today. A long, long time of yearning and hope for all beings of heart - gay and non-gay alike.

I am not gay but celebrate the Supreme Court decision.

"Name me an illness, call me a sin..." - never again!

"never feel guilty, never give in." - Yes! Forevermore...

So stoked...

Led Zeppelin – The Rain Song Lyrics 14 years ago
Agreed. I am 45 and grew up in the 70s and thought I was in nirvana with 60s and 70s motown, rock, funk, prog rock, punk, hard rock, metal, even some of the pop music was good - at least it was fun. Then came the 80s - ugh! - and everything started going down hill. Don't get me wrong - I still like some of the music today but it doesn't have the passion or musical virtuosity of the earlier periods. There were so many genres, so many styles - it was like a musical banquet for your ears.

Record companies have done their part to destroy rock 'n roll by "corporatizing" (think plastic, overpackaged) it but it's more than that. Today's musicians seem lazy and don't really learn their instruments or explore styles so they are limited in what they can create. In addition, I think it was sad when black and white music split into separate genres. I think part of the richness of the old styles came from the blending of white folk/country with black blues/jazz.

Artists like Michael Franti are beginning to meld the two together again and coming up with some rich sounds (he blends rap, rock, reggae, and more) but for the most part, alot of today's music sounds too much like the emo crap that originated in the 90s.

Here's hoping for a musical renaissance in the near future that will make our ears happy again.

Great comment. I love this song so much it inspired me to learn to play guitar and even if it takes me 20 years I am going to master this on acoustic! Jimmy is so good on guitar - check him out on "It Might Get Loud". Good stuff.

The Traveling Wilburys – End Of The Line Lyrics 15 years ago
To 50s love:

To answer your question - from Wikipedia - The death of Roy Orbison on December 6, 1988 prevented further full collaborations, but the band did continue. In tribute to Orbison, during the video for "End of the Line" at a point when Orbison sings, his photo is shown followed by a shot of his guitar in a rocking chair. Hope this helps.

Love the song as well. Especially the verse:

You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring
Waiting for someone to tell you everything
Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring
Maybe a diamond ring

IOW, we have to create our own realities and not wait for other people to do it for us. We can rely on other people's truth (which might not work or might be disappointing), or find our own - and simply live it.
