Drake Bell – Rusted Silhouette Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Is this true? ...Can I pretend it is? |
Ke$ha – We R Who We R Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm hoping you're being sarcastic, because if you are then this is hilarious. |
Ani DiFranco – In or Out Lyrics | 13 years ago |
That's such an obvious interpretation, I can't believe I didn't see that before. Very cool! |
Katy Perry – Ur So Gay Lyrics | 13 years ago |
And I have to add...nothing is ever "just a song," especially a popular song. We have to pay attention to the message our celebrities are sending, because like it or not, they have an effect on our society. Katy Perry should watch herself - she's running around, she's having fun, but it is hurting people. |
Katy Perry – Ur So Gay Lyrics | 13 years ago |
These lyrics say "you're whiny and self-obsessed, so you must be gay." I am sick of this concept of "acting gay," because yes, there are some gay men who are like this, and there are some gay men who are not, and there are some straight men who are like this. Personality has nothing to do with sexuality, and as long as people don't recognize that, we have a problem. "We just have to deal with this sometimes, things will probably never change completely." The day I believe that is the day I stop believing in the human race. I'm too young to give up just yet. You must be pretty cynical to really mean that - I'm sorry for you. |
Ingrid Michaelson – Die Alone Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is so powerful. It's about somebody who has had their trust broken too many times in the past, and lives their life carefully guarded and independent...and then they fall in love, and they're forced to revise their plan. The lyrics are incredible, and very clever as mentioned above. |
Jimmy Eat World – Sweetness Lyrics | 13 years ago |
When I first heard this song, they played it over an ad for the GSA's Day of Silence at my high school. I was a freshman at the time, and I was just starting to question my sexuality. So for me - and I'm not saying this was J.E.W.'s intent - it relates to the thoughts and fears of LGBT teens in general. "If you're listening/ sing it back" is about the teen trying to reach out to the world, to find anybody out there who understands what they're going through. The sweetness is the simplicity of ordinary straight high school love and relationships - something LGBT teens have a much harder time finding. Basically, this song is about struggling with your own complex emotions, and the push and pull between wanting to run and hide and wanting to shout it to the world. It's about questioning everything you always took for granted about yourself. Anyways, whether you agree with me or not, this song has some seriously powerful emotion to it. |
Marian Call – Nerd Anthem (I'll Sill Be a Geek After Nobody Thinks It's Chic) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
My personal theme song. <3 Marian Call is the best. |
Marian Call – Vera Flew The Coop Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Great to see Marian Call up on this site! I just wanted to correct the last verse: It was not 'till Vera's dying day her hard heart met desire The man who shot her through was the only man she could admire That mortal wound awoke in her a fire no balm could soothe And she said "I think I love you" and Vera always told the truth Oh, as she died she said "I love you" and Vera always told the truth |
Regina Spektor – Baobabs Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think of this as a song in which a grown woman tries to find meaning in the story (LPP) she's known her whole life. The beginning is fairly cynical about it, as mentioned in previous comments: "they'll grow right through even if I watch it/and a sunset couldn't save me now." Then the middle bit is where she admits that innocence and childhood is important: "I wouldn't raise my child up in this city anyway/they grow up too savvy and they grow up too fast." In the end, I think it's about finding that you're too far gone to be the innocent person you're supposed to be, but wanting to preserve it in others. Very "Catcher in the Rye," really. |
Vanessa Carlton – Who's to Say Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song makes a lot of sense in a gay context, especially if you apply it to a young lesbian couple. Often, gay and bisexual girls are told by their families that they're just going through a phase, and they'll grow up someday and settle down with a nice man. This happens with gay males too, of course, but it's especially prevalent with females - young girls are seen as intimidated by boys, and turning to the safety of having relationships with their close friends. It's really infuriating to be told that what you're feeling is just a silly blip in your silly teenage existence. |
The Pipettes – I Like a Boy in Uniform (School Uniform) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Repetitive and fun as hell. This is my life in song form. Bisexuals have more fun anyways. XD |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Suck My Kiss Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Oh man, I usually roll my eyes at overly sexual songs but this track is fucking awesome. And just something about the phrase "suck my kiss" is inexplicably hot. |
Ke$ha – Blah Blah Blah Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The thing is, I really don't think she *can* do better. The girl is horrifyingly bad. |
Weird Al Yankovic – Girls Just Want To Have Lunch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The music execs wanted Al to parody this song because it was popular, and he didn't want to. Therefore, he intentionally made it as lame as he possibly could. The story makes it retroactively hilarious. |
Baha Men – Who Let the Dogs Out Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Holy crap. I knew this song when I was a *kid*. It was in a *Rugrats* movie. BRAIN BLEACH. SOMEBODY GET THE BRAIN BLEACH. |
Elton John – Someday Out Of The Blue Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is so sweet it makes me want to cry. Also it's from probably my favorite animated movie of all time. Love Elton John, love El Dorado. <3 |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Scar Tissue Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's late afternoon. I'm walking home. The sun is hot and golden, so I can almost feel my shoulders burning. The air smells like summer. And then, Scar Tissue starts playing on my iPod. It's go time. |
Five Iron Frenzy – Far, Far Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm no Christian, so I tend to stay away from Christian music. It's not that I'm really offended, listening to something with religious meaning, it's just that most Christian music has preachy, poorly written lyrics. This song, however, is completely awesome. Even if I don't believe, I can really understand the emotions of a true Christian through these lyrics, and it's a fantastic point of view. Also, I love the trumpet bits so much. A+, Five Iron Frenzy! |
Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Most people seem to think that this song is about immortalizing love. I think it's about immortalizing heroes. It's about a group of people who did something truly great, and now they have to live in the world that they saved. The hero worship that they received at first gives way to disapproval, because people begin to realize that their heroes are not perfect. They are basically confused about life - without anything to save, they don't know how what their place is in the world. It's an absolutely lovely song. |

Regina Spektor – Us Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is so beautiful. I associate it with the airmen from the book Havemercy. I won't explain, because of spoilers, but if you've read it, you'd understand. The association is...heartbreaking. |

Coheed and Cambria – Neverender Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Just as a random little side note, even though it's a graphic novel, it can still be considered an epic, and it is scifi after all. But I agree. Coheed and Cambria are made of awesome. You're so lucky you've seen them live, I'm dying to. |
Regina Spektor – Uh-Merica Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Well, I like the musical "Assassins" too much, so that probably explains my interpretation. But I like to think that this song is about somebody who plans to shoot FDR, but gets cold feet at the last second - hence, "emptying a cartridge at the sun." It's not a historical event, because nothing happened. But it's not innaccurate - as long as there is a president, there will be someone who for whatever reason thinks the world will be better without him. |
Gin Blossoms – Hey Jealousy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
There's something so imperfectly beautiful about this song. If I were the girl in the song, I'd be crazy not to give this guy another chance. I'm so addicted to this. Sometimes after I listen to it, I just have to stop my music and dwell on the emotions for a while. |
Hellogoodbye – Stuck To You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm not in love with the lyrics...they're kind of generic...but the song is HOT. I just love listening to it. |
Evanescence – You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm not sure exactly how I ended up with a copy of this song, but I'm so glad I did. I'm sure Amy Lee has gotten over the fact that it was leaked, but even if she hadn't, I would keep the song. It nearly made me cry the first time I heard it. As someone who has never been in love, it gives me hope that this sort of fairy tale love is possible at all, even if it doesn't last forever. Incredibly beautiful and touching. I think that the artist should just be changed to "Amy Lee" instead of "Evanescence." It's her song, not the band's, and I think it should be accredited thusly, especially since it's so deeply personal. |

The Wombats – Kill The Director Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Have you ever liked someone like that? It can be nervewracking, and quite a lot like seasickness. Love is weird. It's not all happy-go-lucky funtimes. |
3OH!3 – Don't Trust Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
*robotic voice* I hate this song. It is stupid and degrading. It has no deeper meaning. ...Oh, what the hell. *dances happily* This song is so much fun. |
Vienna Teng – Recessional Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I definitely see a love story, but I don't see it in reverse. And I'm another who automatically puts it in lesbian terms, even if the singer didn't mean it like that. In my mind, it's about two girls who are friends, probably best friends, and one is beginning to see her friend in a totally different light. It's beautiful, and heart-rendingly scary. She feels empty, because she knows that she's not supposed to want anything like that; to preserve her friendship, she hides her feelings. Because keeping this girl around her, in any capacity, is so much better than pushing her away with talk of love that she probably won't be able to reciprocate. |
Guns N' Roses – Rocket Queen Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Erm, I don't think that anybody's saying they dislike gays. They're just disagreeing with who's moaning in the song. And honestly, the way you guys are getting all fired up about this is pretty damn funny. The song rocks. Isn't songmeanings here to talk about the *meaning* of the *song*? |
Seether – Burrito Lyrics | 15 years ago |
That was my first instinct, too. I heard the line "The worst is over now/you said it anyhow" and immediately thought of the song Broken. I always think it's cool when you hear an artist's song, and are able to find a specific thing in their life that made them write it. It's about a poison relationship - realizing that the person you're with is just hurting you and trying to help themselves instead. |

My Chemical Romance – The Sharpest Lives Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love the lines "Juliet loves the beat and the lust it commands/Drop the dagger and lather the blood on your hands, Romeo." If you're familiar with the play, you probably know that Romeo's actions, whether by accident or on purpose, caused every single death in the play. And yet Juliet continues to be infatuated with him, even when it's her own cousin who's been killed. So much that it drives her to suicide. This is a great representation of a poison relationship, which seems to be the theme of this song. |

Falconer – Carnival Of Disgust Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I'm surprised this has no comments, but I just wanted to add how perfect the song is. It's about the role of somebody whose forced occupation is to kill, not only deserving criminals but innocent children (see music video). It explores the hopelessness of the situation, and how barbaric and cruel a crowd can become - hence, "carnival of disgust." They make a spectacle of a horror, jeering and yelling and waiting for the murder to happen. Only the person forced to commit the crime sees the horrors, the mistake. The lyrics aren't quite enough here to tell the story. You need to see the video...it's really well done, and fits perfectly with the mood of the music and lyrics. Plus, the lead singer is absolutely amazing. |

Backstreet Boys – Larger Than Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with lqfuad on this one. When the Backstreet Boys first came out, they were loved in a "ooh new and shiny" way. After a couple years, they were hated, because everybody realized how cheesy they were. Now, roughly a decade later, they've flipped back to awesome in a cheesy 90's oh-the-memories way. The robot dance break, by the way, is AMAZING. |
Nightwish – Higher Than Hope Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song nearly made me cry even before I learned the backstory. It's just a tribute to the amount of emotion that Nightwish can instill into a song, so that you're really feeling every moment of it. Does anybody have a link to the Marc Brueland interview that's featured in the song? It would be greatly appreciated, thank you. |
Billy Joel – Only The Good Die Young Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song...it's just a ton of fun. It might be about getting her to have sex, or he may just be trying to get her to sneak out and go out with him or something. In any case, it's a damn awesome song. |
Nightwish – Feel For You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Okay, time to analyze stanza by stanza...that's the only way I can figure a son out. 1. In the beginning, they are together, and she is more hopelessly in love with him than she has ever been with anybody else. 2. He leaves her, but she believes that her soul always haunts him, and that the memory of her cannot be pushed away. 3. He is so close still, and she longs for him, but he is heavily guarded by his cold, emotionless reaction to her. 4. She is trying to make herself strong enough to go back and reclaim him as her lover, though he resists. 5. This is from the man's point of view. The first two lines deal with his conflicting memories...he can't make her lie still in this "grave" he's dug for her memory in his mind...but when he tries to relive his memories of passion with her, they aren't nearly strong enough. He is too proud to go back to her, and settles for his memories, though he knows that if he did go back, she would do whatever he asked. She is that much in love with him, and he could always tell. 6. The girl feels, at this point, that she is strong enough to take back her lover, and she tells him that she's doing it for his sake, because she believes that he still loves her. She wants desperately for him to just give in, and stop dwelling on his pride, because whatever he feels, she feels as well. Their bond is just too strong for them to remain separated forever. It's a story of love stronger than will. Of course, it's also 1AM. Tell me if I sound sleep deprived and looney. |
Nightwish – Forever Yours Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is such a beautiful song. It really reminds me of Titanic, and not just because of the tinwhistle. It's about Rose after the movie is over. Fare thee well, little broken heart (She's saying goodbye to her hurt feelings, and allowing herself to live on as she promised Jack) Downcast eyes, lifetime loneliness (But in her heart, she knows that she'll be alone as long as her life on earth remains) Whatever walks in my heart will walk alone (The love in her heart has to survive on its own) Constant longing for the perfect soul (She misses him desperately) Unwashed scenery forever gone (The imperfect perfection/unwashed scenery of her time with Jack can no longer be part of her life) No love left in me (No room to love anybody else) No eyes to see the heaven beside me (If there is true happiness and love waiting for her elsewhere, she is completely blind to it) My time is yet to come (Her death cannot arrive yet...she must wait for the day when she can join Jack in heaven) So I'll be forever yours (She'll never belong to anybody but Jack) I'm not saying this is the ultimate definition or anything. But it's something to think about, no? |
Sara Bareilles – Love Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
When I first heard this, I was like, "oh, another break-up song." I thought it was catchy, but overdone. Then I heard the story behind it, with the record company, and I gained a whole new respect for it. I love it when artists write songs like this. |
Lifehouse – First Time Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I loved this song before I even heard the lyrics. I heard it on the radio and thought, this song is AWESOME. And then the lyrics made me love it even more. But you know what really made me love it? I looked up the music video on YouTube. I didn't know the lead singer was married at the time. So I'm watching it - cute video by the way - and it gets to this part where it's zoomed in on him singing, and his hands are clasped around the microphone. And right there, for everyone to see, is his wedding ring. I love this song so much more when I realize that the song writer knows what he's talking about. It's one of the most excitingly beautiful songs I've heard in a while. |
Coheed and Cambria – Devil in Jersey City Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Thanks guitarbum78! I need to get those books now... They say progressive rock, then that's what I'll go with. But it means nothing to me. They're just Coheed and Cambria. Too wonderful and complex to be labled. Music labels, in my opinion, are for simple, dumbed-down bands and artists that don't do anything interesting and follow everything that everybody already knows. They deserve to be lumped together...Coheed and Cambria does not. |
Coheed and Cambria – 33 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
telerium drigger and LesPaulLicks...thank you so much for helping me place this song in the story. I haven't gotten my hands on the books yet, so I've just been using this site like crazy to piece it together a little. Your reviews helped me sort this one out...I'm also working on fitting it with Devil in Jersey City, so that one's next. |
Diana Degarmo – Cardboard Castles Lyrics | 16 years ago |
In this song, the people have huge dreams of what they think is the perfect life, and they go after them and fail. They have to learn that they can have a wonderful life with a lot less. "Building cardboard castles" is like taking the only thing you have left, and creating something beautiful for yourself. |
