And how he fell in love and was discussing with this person now (present) that he still thinks about the relationship and his childhood, it is very much a part of him and shaped who he is today. Even though it wasn't exactly easy, he still remembers his childhood fondly. He also talks about how it was tough not to want to grow up and to not have sex (innocence was hard to stand by) and that he probably took (asked for) too much from their girlfriends, i.e taking their virginity. I've never even thought of suicide tbh. I always saw it as being overwhelmed by someone's love. Giving in to it - taking the risk of opening your heart up to be hurt - but gambling to gain it all. The 'never let me go' bit to me says - be with me always and don't let me down, as I've not given up - I've given in to you. I love it when songs can mean completely different things. But this is an extreme one - suicide or love. I guess both are the strongest of concepts/feelings/emotions. A true testament to the song. |

I really like the way you put "by then youve completely humiliated yourself and you just want to take the words away" Because that is so true. I felt exactly the same. I fell in love with my best friend - we were both boys (17-18 years old). I'm 23 now, and this song still means a lot to me. About that relationship and the time, and how I felt. However I do think this song made me realise a few things and get over the guy. I came back to it recently as my Mum, for her 60th, decided to make a book that has a quote from everyone attending the party and it should be a lyric, recipe, quote e.t.c that is important to that person. I've chosen this and it was a pivotal moment in my life. Luckily now I've just had my first year anniversary with the man of my dreams, so it's all good now. |

I think people should be allowed to interpret songs how they want. You thinking that the song's meaning is set in stone is naive. A great thing about music is that it does mean different things to different people. Some people's happiest song maybe someone else's saddest. It's all to do with personal experiences and opinions. So for some people this may be an epic battle between man and god or others may be something as personal as the end of relationship with someone (who's saying it is between a boy and a girl specifically). Maybe even someone who died. It's not pointless that someone finds something they can relate to in a song. In fact that's the best bit. Some things obvious to you may not be to others - and your opinions shouldn't have to be inflicted on them. Just offer an alternative. |

Red bow ties probably means the HIV ribbons yeah. Not sure what he means ruining for the rest of us though. From a brief view seems quite a conflicted song. Also, Kele went to Kings College London which is on the strand. His picture is on the KCL Strand building at the moment. Also the KCL health and GUM clinic is just off the strand - adding to the evidence of the song being about sexuality/sexual health |

When something bad happens to you you've got to get on with it and move on ('don't think about it all and keep your head low'). It leaves you crippled and pathetic ('Will you take me tonight?') But you just have to keep going ('Soldier On') I always get this picture of WW2, someone's comrade has died leaving him alone, he has to keep going or he'll die too. He's ducking and crawling through trenches, dodging gunfire, just thinking about the picture of the girl in his pocket. She's waiting for him at home, where he can forget this nightmare. My favourite line is 'Well this side of mortality is scaring me to death'. I'm not 100% decided on what it means but I'm thinking it's a suggestion that there is this flipside to life, somewhere dark and horrible. |

I think it's all about getting on with life and not worrying what it's all about. They are saying even when you get old you won't understand it either. I like the depressing images of stairs and hallways - arduous and long, hearts breaking and missing pieces, violent seas. But the cheeriness of "Go, Don't Stop" just tells you that you can get through it all (sail out on your hopes!) Lovely and brilliant song |

It's true that he is quite ambiguous about it. I really felt some songs on A Weekend in the City were about a guy. But, for some reason i really feel that this album was about a girl.... I don't know why... perhaps the hair in Halo or something else. Hair is a very femine attribute, it was like the mention of trousers in I Still remember, trousers being a very male thing.... and yes I know girls wear trousers, he could have said anything there, but he chose to say trousers. I dunno, I'm no authority on his sexuality and no one is, so leave him to it. I'm just very grateful he leaves a lot of songs ambiguous as it helps them mean more to me as I'm gay. |

A massive struggle with religion.... So i think both of Monkeydo's opinions are valid at the same time, I think it supposed to be confusing. There is so much here to talk about... "you get sadder the smarter you get" This reminds me of my childhood. While I was younger I was very religious (5-13) But as I got smarter, I began to realise it was all a bit far-fetched and I didn't believe it anymore. Which made me sad to think there is no after life. My opinion, but it might be what he is talking about.... "Much to safe, muc to typical" could be for both atheism and god/religion/faith. Is one easier to pick? Is one so typical? I'm not sure which one here. And I think that the reference of the garden is about Eden. Saying that after the garden of Eden (paradise) he still has something to offer someone... (sorry really hard to express this!) |

Also Kele has a very religious mother, who he doesn't talk about much... I think the whole album represents struggle with religion. Ares, Mercury, Zephyrus, Trojan Horse.... Greek gods/myths. "Are these the real gods? Is what i should believe in?" Halo, Better than heaven.... Christian symbolism. Again "is this what to believe?" I dunno, but would seem very well planned. |

Goddammit, I just wrote a massive bit on this and it failed to load on submitting it!!!! Argh. I think Biko is a reference to the South African activist.... a very tough person, who endured very hard times. The two bits I like in this song are: "I left you blueberries in the fridge The little thing that I can do" Blueberries are very powerful anti-oxidants and are supposed to be good for your health.... This is the agony of cancer, the fact that this person is dying and yet there is hardly anything you can do to help/save them. The best is giving them blueberries... "If I could eat your cancer, I would, but I can't" A very powerful image. By eating it he can destroy this persons cancer. Visually pretty rough, to say the least. but also by consuming cancer does he mean he is willing to take on the cancer for his person to save them? A good song, that is very open ended and interpretable in different ways. As I'm sure Kele meant! |

A very personal song I think.... I think it's obviously sbout someone dying/dead. However, i also think it's about struggling with faith/religion. He wants to believe in anything that will bring this person back, and he imagines he sees signs that there is an afterlife or she will come back. Also, I *think* in catholisism, you get buried in what's known as a confirmation dress, a white frilly thing. So he says he sees her/him in his dreams, but then sees her for real at an open casket funeral, and also at the same time how she/he looks small and statue-like. Truly a brilliant song.... Amazing Also Kele famously has a stutter, so the "You finish my, you finish my words for me" is part stutter, part about the stutter and part how she completes him" As samfancypants said it is very sad. A song about how happy you once *were* is the saddest... Kele is the best! |
