Not to go into "gay mode" or anything here. But, I believe it starts off as a "friend committing suicide," or "thinking suicide" or whatever. Then it goes into an "adult-type 'maybe' marriage?" thing. After that it goes into a "Mother/Child" sorta direction. Then I think it's a "past tense" situation, where the "narrator" could be talking to either of the ^^"situations"^^ See?
That's MY take on this song. It is an absolutely beautiful song. |

I totally agree with "ContemporaryDecayEmbodiment" This song's strange, off-beat rhythm, right behind such a fuzzy/dirty guitar sounds fucking amazing! It's got such a trippy and mellow groove to it. I give this song a 5 star rating!
Now, as far as the song meaning goes... To me, it's as if he's so drawn/captivated/gravitated toward this chick, but he knows for certain that she's just fucking dangerous! But he's lured to her and just can't help but dig her anyway. He's saying that being with her is extremely exciting and could possibly be life threatening as in when he compares her to "skydiving," "face to face with a wild lion," or even "getting high." But he wants to give her a try anyways, because "There's just this thing about you"

I love the reference to the kid sipping "coke" when talking about sellouts. And how he has NEW tattoos, claiming he was OGT. I believe Maynard was a little bit pissed off at the whole "sellout" name calling thing. And he decided to let his feelings out in song. Also, you either have to not really give a shit at all about pissing off a huge genre of fans that have purchased your "stuff." Or be so extremely confident in your music that it doesn't matter.
