The Beatles – Real Love Lyrics 15 years ago
anyway, that's just my point of view, and it probably has nothing to do with what John Lennon really tried to say.. haha

this is definitely one of the BESTS songs ever. Lennon managed absolutely perfectly to put this huuuuge concept of love into so little and such simple words. this God-damn cold world makes us give so much about being loved but not for loving, and there's really nothing to be scared of. i think this song also talks about love as the most powerfull force in the universe, which we usually confuse with other things that nowadays seem to make the world go round.. such as money, looks, posts... we convinced ourselves that things such as our CVs and stuff mean what what each of us are, and we never take some time to think about how we are geting things done, the path we're taking to reach out goals... anyway, what i'm trying to say is that a paper doesn't say what you really are, everything you've been through and how you faced life, your ideals, what you think, what you've done for this world or what you want to do for it... and it doesn't seem to matter anymore! and of course it fucking does... ANYWAY.. the point is that love is the way to happiness, and we really live to love, but the ornaments we're constantly choosing for our lives turn into our priorities.

Regina Spektor – Somedays Lyrics 16 years ago
"They come in all quiet sweep up and then they leave
And you don't hear a single floor board creak
They're so much stronger than the friends you try to keep by your side"

it sounds more like.. the people he meets, that are new in his life, don't try to get closer, they don't ever want it. they don't want to be part of his life, they don't really care about him. cold society.. so it's like, they come and go and you don't even notice ("and you don't hear a signle floor board creak") because they make nothing to help you change your situation.
or maybe if they did care abaout you, then they just can't help you since its not their choice..

i don't know.

i'm still trying to figure out the rest of it! haah. let's se..

Regina Spektor – Real Love (John Lennon cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is just lovely, and there's no need to explain it, since Lennon's lyrics are cristal clear. =) i can't help feel hopeful about love, which i hate, but like at the same time. this song gets me out of my own home-made-cold-hard-steem-Ihatelove-frame. =) or something

i feel different, i really like it.

The Strokes – What Ever Happened? Lyrics 16 years ago
i was trying to find another meanign to the song and i came up with this..

you can't forget people. it has happened to me, i get so fucking confussed with life and stuff, when i constantly have problems with someone, or it is hard to say things or whatever (the truth is, i don't remember quite well right now), i just want to forget that person. it's just that it would be goddamn easier!! like to forget the whole friendship or whatever sort of relationship u both had, to just erase everything and simply not care...
but of course you can't.

The Strokes – What Ever Happened? Lyrics 16 years ago
don't really know what this song's about, i just know that the "i wanna be forgotten, and i don't wanna be reminded, i(as i thought it was) say please don't make this harder.." part had to do with someone who's about commit suicide (or thinking about it), and a friend or someone who loves him knows it and is trying to make him stop, to "save" him.
omg. i just remembered once a friend told me she had taken a big number of pills the night before. she could have died, something really bad could have happened to her. i don't know, it feels like shit knowing you could have lost someone that close to you..

Regina Spektor – Braille Lyrics 16 years ago
here i go..

"She hadn't been a virgin and he hadn't been a god
so she named the baby Elvis
to make up for the royalty he lacked
[...]
Elvis never could carry a tune"
i believe this means they were just an ordinary couple, so they called him Elvis to make things right with him, to make him someone special, to give themselves a little hope. but anyway, as years went by she realised he was nothing but a regular boy, which is not bad. i certainly do not think she has any regrets or feels sorry for herself or whatever, i think she's just thinking about it all, about how things change..

"And from then on it was turpentine and patches"
to me, this means she is quite careless and clumsy, so she screw it up many times but she always tried to fix it (turpentine is used to clean paint, and well.. patches to cover scars).

"They were just two jerks playing with matches 'Cause that's all they knew how to play". so the couple were living the way the knew how to live, the way they've been tought, never too aware of what they were doing and the consecuenses, but just trying to do things right. i totally loove this line, specially when Regina sings "pla-a-a-ay",can't help love it.

So, the thing i love the most about these lines is that the lyrics always make reference to a certain union, companionship, since it talks about what she did for him and what he did for her, and how they worked things out for each and the other :) love that.

and then it's like "After all I'm still a jerk playing with matches. It's just that he's not around to play along" means that whatever the reason, he's not there anymore (it's so God-damn sad!!), and the things they used to do together aren't the same anymore and doing them now, without him, is just something meaningless. she needs him, she misses him and that time.

"And it was raining cats and dogs outside of her window And she knew they'd be destined to become
sacred roadkill on the way And she was listening to the sound of heaven shaking thinking about puddles, puddles and mistakes"
here is where she realised there was something wrong with her and her lifestyle. i don't thing Regina tried to tell us she was ment to die on a traffic accident or something, its just a metaphor, meaning she's starting to see that her world has been slowly crumbling down and if the doesn't change her attitude, it's going to get hopelessly screwed.

"yeah, I'm still an asshole playing with candles Blowing out wishes, blowing out dreams" this makes me think about myself when i realise time passes by real fast and i never do things in time, so i lose many chances of doing certain things. i believe that's what happens to the woman (and also what i already said about her doing what she and her man used to be but now is meaningless and she's just wasting her time remembering how things used to be like.. ).

"She was lying on the floor and counting stretch marks [...] Just sitting here and trying to decipher what's written in Braille upon my skin.. She was lying on the floor and counting stretch" I believe that this is how this song starts since she literally started thinking about everything she had been doing by watching the stretch marks which are result of her pregnancy. and by the end of the song this goes further: this "stretch marks" are not only the real ones but also like bruices and scars, meaning, every evidence of what she's gone through, which are written on her skin, but she just can-not understand what they mean, and she's trying to.

before i read the lyrics, i thought it was "she was lying on the floor and counting STREGTH", and i still like to believe that it was strenght what she was looking for in her skin and deep in her mind. so, she's a woman looking for some hope :)

I JUST LOVE this song. it is sooo beautiful. Regina's like a lyric goddess or something, DAMN! the woman's so fucking gifted!!

Regina Spektor – Carbon Monoxide Lyrics 16 years ago
the truth is i don't have a clue of what this song's about. i think it doesn't make much sense, so after posting this, i'll read what u guys wrote.

the only thing i get is the "getting the socks right" thing. i believe it means that if you don't do the things right, you'll face the consecuences later on ("they slide right off of my feet as i walk").

anyway, i looooove the part in which it makes reference to our society. "soon we'll go to sleep. no-one will notice we've gone cause we don't have our jobs to keep..". i love it. she's saying that since they aren't like "important people", productive to this world, they're worth nothing so no one give a shit if they're gone or not.
i love it.

Regina Spektor – Buildings Lyrics 16 years ago
So. I've read almost every comment of this song, and you all have beautiful interpretations (this is what happens with every single song of Regina). anyway, here's mine.

well, first, there's no need for me to say i think she's an alcoholic, since that's pretty obvious.

i think she is quite depressed (reason why she drinks), so there might be some issue in her life or something that makes her feel like this. but she's unable to solve this problem, there's nothing for her to do but just wait and wait for it to suddenly change. "she would always always wake up the next morning" means that though she can get drunk, she can certainly not scape from her problems. and does not really matter if a day goes by, since there's always another one, with the same rutine, the same thing.
her husband loves her so bad that he stays by her side all this time. because they are a couple, he feels, and it is not her problem but theirs. and he will wait, and he will drive his drunk wife home, he will hold her hair while she pukes, and he will be patient. he won't go anywhere, he's staying with her. i love the fact that he shows his love for her even when she's drunk (leaning her head gently against the side door window, so that she can get some fresh air and stuff).
"they build building so tall this days"
i certainly do not believe that's just a sort of "weather-talk" just to make the situation look any more normal. i actually think he's giving her (and also himself) hope. meaning things change real quickly, so they just have to wait a little more.
"she'd ask for time and she'd beg for time, and he'd give her time" and "her conscience would issue yet another last warning" mean she's affraid of losing him, though she's definitely not. and so when she wakes up every morning and he says "it's o.k." she feels guilty (of course it would be easier if her husband just got mad at her, but he doesn't cause he loves her) and says to herself "all right, i keep on doing this to him", so she cleans up the house making him feel better, making him feel his beloved is a ordinary housewife who makes her best to satisfy her husband.
when they have coffee and coffee and coffee and coffee- i think Regina's tying to say they'd have breakfast without talking and so the silence makes the meal look longer, ha.
anyway, she's not actually asking him for "time", she's asking him for opportunities for working the thing out and not give up on her. and when Regina sings "but time is not given and time is not taken", to me it means none of them can change things, it makes reference to the powerlessness they both have in this situation. "time sifts away", so they should wait and see what happens.

concerning to the ending. yes, i must admit it makes more sense to think she commits suicide jumping from a really tall builing, but i like to believe that what happens is the next thing:
one of those days, following the daily rutine, supose she was cleaning the bathroom, so, she realises there's no point on what she's doing since she's going nowhere, she's stucked there and she must move on. so she has a sort of flashback on everything she and her husband have been dealing with this whole time, and she suddelny sees the light.

ieheei. happy ending :D
at least it gives ME some hope, haha.

however, i love this song, specially when Regina sings the whole "time-giving" part :)

Oasis – Fade Away Lyrics 16 years ago
i think it has to do with nostalgia. "the dreams we have as children fade away", its just beautiful. what we used to want, we dont want it anymore. what we wanted to be neither. i mean, we all change, we are constantly changing. when it says "as children" it refers to a long time ago. day by day we are getting more mature and things in life make us change our minds unconsciously. we are unaware of it, and suddenly one day we start to thing about out roots and stuff and waht we used to be. "what are we doing here?" or what "where we doing there?"

Oasis – Don't Go Away Lyrics 16 years ago
the official oasis site lyrics also say "i don't wanna be there..." and most of the lyrics everywhere also say that, but i once found one that said "and i wanna be there when you're.." i would make much more sence, wouldn't it?

Oasis – Don't Go Away Lyrics 16 years ago
i'd never paid too much attention to this song until this summer. see, my mother was having trouble breathing, she was quite sick. we were on the coast and one night we had to come back to the city, go to the hospital. she started to cough like real hard, she wans't stopping, it lasted like a whole minute.. she said she felt like she was going to die (i just burst into tears) she said "pensé que no volvía esta vez" (something like "i thought i wasn't coming back this time").. so the six of us -my whole family- got into the car and drove right to the hospital. on our way i was listening to this song. "don't go away, say that you'll stay forever and a day in the time of my life, cause i need more time just to make things right". i just don't know what would have happend if she didn't get better. thank you God so much, and mother tough you are never reading this, i don't know what i would do without you, thank you for everything you gave me. i love you and please, don't you ever go away.
