Wow...I haven't commented in like 2 years I think...woah :S Anyway, I very recently discovered this band...thanks to my best friend :) Golly, I love them to the tiniest of bits and pieces :P and this is one of my favourite songs :)
I've always thought that this song is about unrequited love :) To me it's about a woman who's dating someone who's unfaithful hence the entire first verse "Can you lie next to her/And give her your heart/ As well as your body" etc...and the line "can you kneel before the King/And say I'm clean" is basically the singer asking if the boyfriend can really sink so low as to deny before the eyes of God that he's being unfaithful.
"But tell me now, where was my fault/In loving you with my whole heart" is about how the best friend loves her, and he doesn't understand why there'd be anything wrong with that.
"A white blank page and a swelling rage/You did not think when you sent me to the brink/You desrired my attention but denied my affections" Ok, I know that I could be really wrong here, but to me this line is refering to a suicide note...this woman has led him on to the point where he can't take it anymore because he loves her so much and she's just toying with his emotions...so he's decided to take his own life, hence the "You did not think when you sent me to the brink" part...and "A white blank page and a swelling rage" could be him wanting to write a suicide note, but he's unable to express his emotions in words...so rather than the page being filled with some sort of explanation...it's blank and all he's feeling is unexplainable rage...
"Lead me to the truth and I/Will follow you with my whole life" is pretty much suggesting that he wants to be with this woman, so long as she's honest with him. He's willing to give himself entirely to her, if she's willing to stop leading him on.
That's my take...I know I could be dead wrong...but everyone has their own take I guess :P |

Everytime i listen to this song, i cry, i guess i can't really relate to it, but it's such a sad song. You guys are all right, it is about her cousins death and I think the way she expresses herself is beautiful. My favourite line is "If things get real for me down here,
promise to take me back to the tune we played before you went away."

Omgosh i absolutely love the veronicas! this song is amazing, every time i listen to it i cry especially when i hear jess' little sniffle towards the end! their so cute! and they did a fantastic job of it at their concert! This song is actually about one of jess' ex-boyfriends, the lyrics kinda say it all, not much to explain :)

I think that this song is about this girl who maybe always argues with her partner and she feels so alone. She says that "any day it'll all be over." maybe she's just expecting her partner to break up with her, but she's holding onto the relationship anyway. And i don't know why but everytime i listen to this song i get teary, even though i can't relate to it, it's a touching song. :) Oh and i love the veronicas :P

Basically i agree with what most people have said, this song is deffinitely about depression and being bi-polar. She's telling the person that she's been there before:"And I was once there, hanging from that very ledge where you are standing." and that they're not alone, she's saying that they can work at the problem together and then see the light at the end of the tunnel:"But I will learn to breathe this ugliness you see, so we can both be there and we can both share the dark."
I actually used to hate missy higgins, until my friend who also hated her, fell in love with all her music and she got me into her. Her songs are so meaningful and she has a beautiful voice, it's good to know that all these songs are written from her personal experiences :)

Personally, i think this song is about missy higgins' sexuality.I mean really every knows by now that she's either bi sexual or a lesbian. "Written on her head was failure to conform." She failed to conform to being a straight girl. "I'm just another girl who wants to know, just where you think it's written down this way that we should go." She want's to know why her sexuality isn't really accepted in society and where it's written down that being straight is the right way to go. "She knew her one chance of living on was to strip away all the colours that were casting her astray." the only way she can survive in this world is to pretend that she's straight. "So with a fever of 43 she surrendered there, ready for the world to take her as their own, but as she lay there the people stared as they carried on, feeling terrified of her stripped to the bone." they'd stripped her bare of all her beliefs and she was ready to take on the world with the beliefs accepted by society, but she was stripped down to the bone because she was no longer protected by her own beliefs. People still didn't accept her and just kept walking past. That's my opinion on the whole song, sorry if you don't agree or if it confused you :P

I think that this song is about the fact that she was with this one guy and maybe she had done bad things in the past which she doesn't want him to know about so she thinks that if she tells him the truth he wonn't love her anymore and he'll leave her, but she has realised that lying is not the way to go and she really needs to tell him the truth if she loves him. This song is the total truth, it's every politicians nightmare. It shows the world what the president is really doing when he's at work and that's nothing! he's probablly sitting in that chair of his right now scratching his ass and yeah i agree with this song look at all the homeless on the street and look at all the troops who are in Iraq, what for? why doesn't he get up of his fat ass and do something himself for a change, stop sending troops in and then leave them dying there, the only thing that he can do is sit there and try make things better with his crap ass speaches well i've got something to say TRY HARDER!!!!! This song is so amazing, i mean these lyrics are really deep. in my opinion i think that maybe the guy singing this is the girls best friend or he has a crush on her or something and he really doesn't see why she can't walk away from the guy beating her up. And he kinda asks the guy why he's being such a jerk and he's telling him that his lies aren't gonna last for a very long time. This song is really telling us that no matter how much you try to understand what a person is going through or how upsetting or painful a time has been for them, you will never actually know how it feels and maybe that in most cases the hurt person will try and run away from the situation and make up other excuses for running when the only excuse is that you don't want to wake up the next day with all the same worries and all the same people there trying to comfort you.
