I agree with the idea about how the song is about the destruction of the world because of evil, violence, etc. As a side note, Blackwater Park is not a concept album. The only concept albums Opeth have done are "My Arms, Your Hearse" and "Still Life". Watershed I am not sure about, as the lyrics to that record are (for me) a lot more cryptic than other Opeth releases, although, by Mike's own admission, some of the songs are conncected (Burden, Porcelain Heart, Hessian Peel). |

That's completely wrong. the character was banished from the city/town for being an ATHEIST: 'Devoid of faith'. and seeing as the place is quite religious they were disgusted with him. "ungodly freak, defiler". I'm not claiming to be some expert in Opeth lyric translations but for fucks sake, enough with the stupid fucking ideas of a black person. him being banished had NOTHING to do with his ethnicity, nor his practising of sorcery or magic. And if you read the lyrics to the songs after 'The Moor' it is made clear that Melinda does love him still but she has been sworn to the life of a nun. I don't really know the meanings of each individual song on 'the Jester Race' but the general theme of the album is that of human arrogance, failure and weakness. Humans in the album are actually referred to as jesters who corrupt and destroy the 'all-mother' (mother earth) and my God that must be some of the most jaw droppingly awesome guitar playing that exists. |

this is my interpretation of the lyrics of this song: this song describes that the outcast was shunned out by his country for being an outspoken atheist. An "ungodly freak, defiler" and was branded "a Jonah with fevered blood". He was banished from his country and now 15 years have passed and he has returned for his love, Melinda who he had to leave behind when he was banished. This is only what i make of it but regardless of whether it is correct, it's an absolutely awesome song. I LOVE the way the song builds and builds and then the guitars are just uuuhhh amazing and then that roar....simply breathtaking |
