Brand New – The Archers Bows Have Broken Lyrics 16 years ago
cjlj I agree with you on the "joyous broken thing"
TO me, I think this song is mostly about someone who wants to live his life like he wants, and he's speaking up against those who try to keep him in line. This is just an overall feeling, there could be something more.
I like the first few lines "do you carry it around just to burn things down"
I bought the CD a while ago, and it still rocks. It's a shame that where I live Brand new cds are really hard to find. I guess I'll keep searching

Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics 17 years ago
Rhea: I completely understand your point, but, like someone else already said (I forgot who and am too lazy to find it again) it's not the fact that the song is so shallow that we are angry about, it's the fact that it's Avril, and she wasn't like this before. Lots of people DO sing songs like this, so why should she as well?
Also, I wanted to add that I agree with your comment on superficiality. Even though, technically, songs about boyfriend-stealing are superficial as well. But you have a point and I totally agree with you.

R. Kelly – Trapped In The Closet (Chapter 5 of 5) Lyrics 17 years ago
R. Kelly must die.
Seriously, a friend of mine made me listen to the entire thing and I felt like I was bleeding from the ears. It's long, pointless, retarded, long, repetitive and just too fucking long.
Jesus.
Does he actually think he's clever for having written this? It's a song, written like a story! It could be a play! Hihihi!
This load of manure isn't even worth making into a video. This story doesn't belong in music (not that it remotely sounds like music) but on Jerry Springer.
R. Kelly on Springer.... heh.

A Perfect Circle – Peace Love And Understanding Lyrics 17 years ago
Sea of Faces, Vacant was originally a Tapeworm song, but it never was released.
And yeah, every single song on this album is a politicallized (invented word) cover of some other song, except perhaps Counting Bodies... he claimed it was more of an extension, even though it has the same lyrics.
I think pretty much all the songs are awesomely done, and hardly recogniseable. I actually only spotted Imagine (of course) and Fiddle and the Drum, but that might be cause most of the others are like thirty years old.
Awesome all the same

Mudmen – Saturday Lyrics 17 years ago
Why has no one said anything about this song yet? It rocks! It's the first song I've heard by these guys and it encouraged me to buy their CD. They also came out with others but I've never been able to find them. Sad.
P.S. Bagpipes are the shit

Mudmen – Underdog Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is a pretty damn cool song by Mudmen. The only quirk I have against them is their name. Mudmen? It doesn't sound that attractive. If you say "I'm listening to Mudmen!" and people just flinch. But anyone who likes them know it doesn't matter.
Anyways, a good canadian song by a good canadian banc.
P.S. Bagpipes are the shit

Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics 17 years ago
"this song is not meant to be taken seriously"?
so what exactly is it for then? Sending a message? Somehow, I don't think so. Everyone I know that likes this song actually think that it's serious. And if Avril wanted to send a message, she would say it in the song. She should sing about how girls like this suck.
Soooo.... what is the purpose of this song? MAKING MONEY. And it's working!
Avril is a sellout. I've lost whatever respect I had for her.

A Perfect Circle – Pet Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm looking around and I see it everywhere: people arguing about which theory is right. Though a lot of people got the right idea across, I think I need to clarify: A song, any song, can have any meaning you give it. The "right" meaning is the one that makes sense to you. It could be about war, it could be about drug addiction, it could be about anorexia, christ, it could even be about cuddly bunnies if that's really what you think. My point is: there is nothing to gain by saying someone else is wrong. They are not. This is what's beautiful about poetry and song, it can be taken in so many ways.
Anyways.
To me, it's not specifically about Bush or anything, but about any dictator or tyran-lead people, basically sending out the message: Go back to sleep, everything is a-okay. Yeap.
Enormous emphasis on the "to me".

The Fiery Furnaces – Birdie Brain Lyrics 17 years ago
This song seriously gave me brain damage. I do not know what to think of it. All I know is that the stupid bubble sound in the background seriously drives me.
All in all, a song that remains in your head for a long time.

Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics 17 years ago
Five points to Richard!
Seriously, when I first heard this song I thought it was pulled out from her Sk8er Boi times, but then I learned it was brand new. WHAT. THE. FUCK. Some might argue that this is a clever ploy to send out a joke and make millions off of people's stupidity, but I claim that she's just trying to sell to six-year olds. Avril, you once weren't too bad and had my respect because you didn't pop out and were canadian. But now.....
You are American to me.
I meant no offence to americans with this last comment. I just meant that there are too many generic image-centered bands from the states.

The Spill Canvas – The Tide Lyrics 17 years ago
I think everyone does make a good point, but I might as well throw in my own interpretation.
Firstly, regarding the question of the father, I think that he left them, rather than he died. My reasoning for this is that Dade as a child "wonders what love is, and why it has to end". I seriously doubt he means himself. Also, he wonders when his father will return during the second part, when the kids are reaching the teens. At this time, were his father dead, I'm sure he would have realised it.
That was slightly pointless.
As for the entire song, I believe it's about the effect of divorce on kids. The fact that the bedridden mother (emotionally or physically harmed, either one) never paid much attention to the kids, was probably the most damaging. You see the three kids growing and coping with it differently. Veronica seems unaffected, Veda seems to lack confidence but Dade clearly shows he misses his father. You can really see the damage in his case. But really, when it comes down to it, all three were affected.
To me, the tide is, more or less, life, with all it's hurts, sorrows, and pains. And the three kids, fatherless and slightly neglected by their mother, were taken away by it, and it lead them to suicide. And although Dade was the only one who seemed depressed, all three were. It just goes to show that depression doesn't always show.
This was a really sad story, I've heard it many times over two years or so and it still chokes me up a little. Just hearing "Heaven's not a place..." and "She didn't really notice, or paid much attention as the tide came in and swept her three into the ocean" gives me the willies. Just typing them again made me shiver. However, what really strikes me is the fact that the mother was actually very wise, but became sort of broken when her lover left her. "Heaven's not a place that you go when you die" and "love is just a hoax"... had the family a good father, those kids would not only still be alive, but probably turn out to be amazing people. So, to me, this song is more about divorce than about suicide. If you want a song about suicide listen to "Self conclusion" by the Spill Canvas also... or even "No lies, just love" by Bright Eyes. But the Tide is truly an amazing, chillingly beautiful piece of work.

That was my opinion, feel free to agree or disagree. and if you actually read it all, I thank you for your patience.... heh heh
