what strikes me is the eerie similarity (thematically of course) between Deliverance,bleak and this song....all three of them deal in one way or another with serial murderers...okay bleak just describes a single stalking and murder but the fact remains that three songs are intimately related to the thought of homicide... i think both sniper and ddadutta make a good point but i am leaning slightly towards ddadutta's interpretation because i feel thst the three songs i mentioned are linked in some way..a trilogy if you will... |

this song has got to be one of opeth's best songs... the complex guitar riffs and the outworldly drumming make it an awesome experience....abt the song i would say it is about a serial killer...the words that give it away acc to me are.. "disappear into the obscure resting days waiting for new disease biding time " how he(the killer) after having killed someone satisfies his thirst for a short while and then the craving atrts again and he stalks anew.. and o yeah does anyone agree that the drumming at the end is mindfucking..... |

personally i agree with floyd7....the two lost souls are waters and Syd barret....I think its about the way waters feels about Barret's problems with drugs and how it overcame him...How he(barret) could not tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. The way Barret became only a fraction of the man he once was...and waters yearns for it..to see barret as he once was and he calls for that man"wish you were here.." well thats just my two cents... RIP Syd...and shine on u crazy diamond... |

its amazing that for such a melodious song they are hardly a few comments while crap lile LP gets the whole goddamn world's attention....cmon ppl... oh well....the song as put forward by most of y'all is about coming to terms with your own impending death. And though you die alone you would prefer if someone close to you is there to comfort you..... A great song from a great concept album.... Opeth rocks..\m/.. Peace out... |

This song might just be the best cover ever done.....the awesome distrortion and the outworldly vocals make the song a great experience... As for the meaning i would venture to say that the song is about coming to terms with mortality although it is a arguable point... The line "Locked in a place where no one goes." maybe about insanity...you being imprisoned inside your own head- a place where no one goes.... |
