Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think it's a song about love and sacrifice. she is using samson's story from judges, as far as i'm concerned. the story of samson is already written a lot here so i won't go through it. but who ever she is talking about sacrificed some thing for their love. some thing that set him significantly above the rest of the population. and he didn't mind losing his metaphorical super human strength and he seemed to be okay with it. i can't really explain it well, but that's how i see it. |
Katchafire – Who You With Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is fantastic. the groove is so fun! i can't help but think that this is about condoms, atleast every time he says 'wrap it up'. |
Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is beautiful. i think it's just a narrative, and you take it however you want. most of sufjans songs have a message that every one can interpret as they like, or they can just listen to the story and take it all literally. but that's no fun. |
Feist – Mushaboom Lyrics | 17 years ago |
my fiance always sings this to me. and she's from canada too! coincidence? perhaps. either way, great song. whether feist is singing it or my lovely wife to be is. |
Gonzales, Feist & Dani – Boomerang 2005 (Comme Un Boomerang) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
not a literal translation of the original. however, i like it more. it's about an intense love that always comes back to where it started, either to ones self or to another person. one would believe another person but you never know. |
The Fitness – Day Job Lyrics | 17 years ago |
self absorbed. first time i heard it i was convinced that my ex wrote it. :D |
Gwen Stefani – Wind It Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think gwen has her own code of sorts. and these songs that sound like total rubbish are, in all actuality, profound pieces of literature. any ways - get 20 drunk michigan kids in a room and put this song on full blast and you've got enough entertainment to last for the whole night. |
Fred Astaire – Cheek to Cheek Lyrics | 17 years ago |
my grandmother use to try to sing this to me when i was young. of course - she hardly spoke a word of english and it's almost comical looking back on it now, but i can't help but smile whenever i hear this song. |
Feist – Comme Un Boomerang Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i like this version better than the etienne daho et dani version. especially the intro. the accordion makes it wonderful! the original lyrics are much more in depth than these - but they obviously had to change a lot for it to work in english. |
The Decemberists – The Legionnaire's Lament Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love the bits of french in this. and a non-francophone pronounced 'seine' right in this! it made me happy the first time i heard it. |
By Divine Right – Soft Machine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
'i got a non-dairy creamer in my jeans, and i'm happy to see her if you know what i mean.' that lines cracks me up every time. amazing song. |
Bruce Channel – Hey Baby Lyrics | 17 years ago |
good old song. my senoir year the marching band did a nice tuba/vocal version of this song. more a cadence but it was tons of fun. it's a good song to serenade a significant other with too. :D |
Big D and the Kids Table – Those Kids Suck (T.K.S.) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
prep school rich brats. or just your typical male. heh. |
Bedouin Soundclash – Rude Boy Don’t Cry Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it could be about just driving around. listening to the radio - hanging in 'da hood'. it's a fun song though. |
Michel Polnareff – La Poupée Qui Fait Non Lyrics | 17 years ago |
original is better - but i like michel's voice. |
Matt Costa – Sunshine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i know it doesn't mean that he's at peace or anything - but it's such a happy song that i substitute my own meaning as to not disturb my reality. or something. matt costa is amazing. |
Elton John – Your Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i usually don't like his music, but this song is special. there's nothing terribly enticing about the music itself, but the lyrics and the way he sings it bring the whole thing together. it was practically my anthem for a little over a year - and helped the love of my life and i get back together. |
Flogging Molly – The Worst Day Since Yesterday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
you can hear the 'ing' part. the irish don't let off of their g's like americans do. either way - beautiful song. saw them play live, the whole crowd was singing along, it was great. you could totally feel that almost every one could relate. |
Sondre Lerche – Everyone's Rooting For You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
such a happy song! i'm digging the jazz feel to this tune. the meaning is obvious - but apparently some one is being cheered on and encouraged. |
Matisyahu – Indestructible Lyrics | 17 years ago |
no comments? that's depressing. but not entirely - this song is so uplifting! but then again it is matisyahu. this is maybe my favourite by him. it may be about his own trials through god and his faith, but it could very well reflect the troubles the jewish population as a whole have faced. time after time again we've gotten persecuted and attacked, but we always come back, some times with stronger faith than before. later in the song it becomes more of a plea, either to god or humanity. all of his songs could be taken a number of ways, i chose to hear it that way. |
Matisyahu – Jerusalem (Out of Darkness Comes Light) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the chorus is sort of saying that his faith and his roots are the largest influence on his life. when he refers to the fire - it may be that he's saying his words won't have the same effect that they do, that they wouldn't be as powerful. and [is he right handed? i don't know..] the reference to the hand may be that he won't be able to write. so yeah. and seeing how he is a rapper of sorts, if his words are ineffective and he can't write - things might be a little difficult. matisyahu is amazing. i really hope more people hear him and his words can rekindle or altogether inspire their faith. |
