Sarah Harmer – Basement Apartment Lyrics 16 years ago
Or maybe, not only a song about the physical setting, but about the one she's living with? Wanting to leave, watching the things that go unsaid, etc? The restrictive, constricting feeling of being with someone that you aren't sure if you should be around anymore?

Feist – Secret Heart Lyrics 17 years ago
i would totally agree with mushaboom20. SO much better. This song seems like it's speaking just to me sometimes, to show my heart instead of hiding it away.
it's such a hard thing to do...

such an optimistic song :)

Regina Spektor – On the Radio Lyrics 17 years ago
to me, this song is about life and love, yes-- but also just a perspective on life in general. I interpret "this is how it works" meaning "this is how life works"... but whatever the correct interpretation is, regina spektor is awesome.

Ani DiFranco – Two Little Girls Lyrics 17 years ago
i love your line, citygirl: "every song Ani writes is a little truth clipping from her life." it's so true, and remarkable how her little truth clippings so closely resemble truth clippings from other lives... i love how her songs speak to so many people in so many ways.
i love it when she sings "this little girl cries wee wee
all the way home..." and it sounds like a subway/ train horn. awesome touch. i always thought that it was "this little girl cried oui oui all the way home", as in screaming "YES!" all the way home?
No matter. awesome song. ani is a goddess.

The Wailin' Jennys – Beautiful Dawn Lyrics 17 years ago
this is a heart crying out for what it lacks, because lacking these things is breaking the heart.... this is an absolutely GORGEOUS song. one of my all time favorites. every line resonates with my own heart.

Ani DiFranco – Asking Too Much Lyrics 17 years ago
i don't think it is asking for too much... although, it sure seems like it at times.

38th Parallel – Horizon Lyrics 17 years ago
i love this song.
and i would LOVE to hear an acoustic version of this song.
this is a good driving song, in my opinions. especially when you're out on the prairie with nothing in front of you but highway, wheat fields, and sky.

Prozzak – Monday Morning Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is kinda self-explanatory... one song you DON'T want to play after someone you know dies. You'll start to laugh, but the laughter will quickly turn to unstoppable tears.
Why are monday mornings so hard to face when someone close to you has died?

Remy Zero – Shattered Lyrics 17 years ago
i would interpret this song as about the person who breaks you, your walls, your defenses, your perceptions as you start a relationship with them... but... i kinda don't like to interpret the song, because it's so gorgeous. Taking it from the poetic to the prose degrades it somehow.

Jann Arden – Good Mother Lyrics 17 years ago
this, to me anyways, is about life. it's looking forward to the future, taking stock of the things you have now, while remembering what brought you to this point in your life.
on a more personal note, i love the line "I’ve got a good father/ And his strength is what makes me cry". That sounds like my dad-- strong, which brings our family security, but also pain when he's so strong we can't see him bend or break or feel pain. It truly does makes me cry when he is so strong that he refuses to be weak.

"This thing beneath my ribs sill beat me to the ground"
LOVE that line!
This song is about loving who you shouldn't and what happens to your heart when you do.
