I didn't get to read everyone's post but when I first heard this song on a personal level it brought me back to my childhood because when I was younger we lived near a strawberry field that literally went on forever. I know Lennon is talking about his childhood at the strawberry fields orphanage but as I listen to this song over and over again I get this feeling that this song is really about suicide. Someone killing themselves and then going into an eternal life into their most happiest place which in this case is strawberry fields. These lyrics just scream suicide to me. "Let me take you down" I'm going to bum you out or depress you right now. "Living is easy with eyes closed" Death is an easy way out. "Noone is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low" Lonliness. Noone to relate to. "Strawberry fields forever" To be in paradise forever. "it's getting hard to be someone.....but it all works out" Hopelessness which in turn leads to something else, hence death. "Nothing to get hungabout" I guess you can be literal about it and have it be about hanging one's self. But its really about if I pass on don't worry about it. And the last part where he seems to be in a state of confusion is where he's thinking should he or shouldn't he do this? Anyways, thats my take on it. Love the song. I love that it can be interpreted in many different ways. |

| I actually saw the video on "Logo" channel awhile back. If you don't know what Logo is its a gay channel. Anyways, I remember thinking to myself why would they play this video...someone in the band must be gay! Needless to say the homosexual content flew over my head because I wasn't paying close attention to the lyrics. But today I sat down and actually listened to the song and my immediate reaction was "Is this about 2 guys?"...its totally undeniable that its a song about 2 guys however the theme is quite universal. What could've been, what you've should've done........blah blah blah ;P Great freakin song though!!! | |
