Nightmare Of You – I Want To Be Burried In Your Backyard Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song confuses me. There is some meaning of death in this, since he is talking about being buried. I am wondering if the car crash part is a metaphor, or if he and Megan actually got in a car crash, and he's dying... and these are his thoughts about her before he dies...? I don't know. Does anyone kind of know where I'm coming from? |
Nightmare Of You – My Name Is Trouble Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I have a theory on the coat part of the song. Lol. I think the song is basically about a guy who is sexually attracted to the girl, but they are in a "boyfriend-girlfriend" relationship where there is supposed to be feelings of love there. However, he doesn't have that. He just really wants her sex. I'll break the coat part down part-by-part. "Sad minion of mine Don’t be so unkind I know I stole your coat You can have the song I wrote" I take "I know I stole your coat" to mean "I know I took your clothes off." They probably chose coat because it usually is seen as protective, but he took it off and had sex with her, taking away her emotional protection and hurting her. He is trying to apologize by writing a song about his feelings. He is basically saying "Don't be mad at me. I know I had sex with you, but let me explain why..." "I’ve just crossed the line From fashion to crime" He is basically saying that taking off her coat was not an innocent move (for "fashion's" sake), he did it so she's have less clothes and want to have sex with him (even though he knows he doesn't love her... making it a "crime") "But it’s such a perfect fit When I am wearing it" It is hard to feel sorry about it because the sex felt really good. Aka, he liked taking off her "coat" (emotional protection) and having control over it himself (by 'wearing it') because it allowed them to have sex. I don't know, this might be way off, but it seems to make sense in context. |
Nightmare Of You – Why Am I Always Right Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I see this as a a song about an angry boyfriend who married a girl with drinking problems. He knew it was a bad idea, but his infatuation with her had him go along with it anyway. Ever since their relationship has gotten horrible.... she drinks more and then has an affair. So he snaps and suffocates her in her sleep and shoots her lover. "Why am I always right?" refers to his feeling that the marriage was a bad idea, though he went along with it anyway, and that feeling ended up being correct. |
The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh, another thing I wanted to discuss... To support my belief that he doesn't actually see 'Jenny' cheating at first and most of the song is just paranoid delusions... he says "Now I’m falling asleep" before describing the scene with 'Jenny', meaning he could just be dreaming it or thinking out it in those moments before sleep. That is also supported by the line "Swimming through sick lullabies." His thoughts are so disturbing, but he is asleep/dreaming/slightly unconcious, making it a "lullaby"... I don't know. Also... "Choking on your alibis." Interesting line... it seems like the paranoia is beginning to build, and he begins to think that his paranoid thoughts are reality (in that way where in a dream, sometimes you forget it is all fake) and he begins to believe Jenny has been giving him all sorts of excuses and lying to cover up her cheating, but he really has no rational basis for this... because he is insane, hence the later murdering. Perhaps he never actually *saw* her cheating, but dreamed about it and now the paranoid, unrational thoughts constantly cycle through his head... so he kills her because of his crazy delusions? Sorry for the rambling. I am mostly just talking to myself. I can't belive I am still trying to convince myself that these things make sense. Lol. |

Even though I understand that the Jenny thing was only supposed to be a trilogy with Bourbon, Midnight Show, and JWAFOM, I keep finding tons of paralells between the Jenny scenerio and Mr Brightside. I know it is unlikely that it is in the story because 4 songs usually don't make a "trilogy"... lol... but hear me out for a second. It kind of seems like it could come before Bourbon on the Shelf. It seems like Mr Brightside sort of describes the main character of the muder trilogy at the beginning of a new relationship (with "Jenny", lets say). It hasn't gotten to far or serious (hence, "it was only a kiss"), but the character's jealous delusions start popping up in his brain. It's the beginning of his insanity that develops more in Midnight Show. He's wondering "I really like her, but what if she's messing around behind my back?" (The lyrics "it's all in my head" sort of implies that "Jenny" is not *actually* cheating on him infront of him, and may not be at all). Anyway, all the mentions of jelously and the parnoid thoughts... it seems like this is the beginning of the murder trilogy's character, where his insanity, obsessiveness, and paranoia starts developing. The "I never..." at the end transfers beautifully into Bourbon. "I never" is usually an expression of surprise and repulsion, leading me to believe that at the end of the song is when he sees "Jenny" and another guy, and he is surprised that his thoughts are actually matching up with reality. Then Bourbon comes... he talks about how he "found a new place and it's so much better" which kind of pairs with the "I'm coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine" line... before Brightside he was too scared to love, but he fell in love with "Jenny" which was a change of character for him, and so far it was just fine. But once he finds out his trust was misplaced, he reverts back to having a bitter heart (aka "the new place"). And later he is asking things like "who's that boy holding your hand?", which seems to go well with the end of Brightside that I imagine. Then it goes on to the other two songs like normal, the jealousy theme continuing throughout, and the charcters insanity increasing with each song. The video is what sparked this scenerio for me. If you have ever watched it, it seems like Brandon kills the fluffy-haired prostitute in the end. They show him reaching for her neck, then it switches to a different scene for a sec, and then it goes back to the brandon/prostitute scene and she's falling into his arms. This seems to have paralells with the lines "i won't be satisfied until I hold you tight" (meaning he won't be satisfied until she falls dead into his arms) and in JWAFOM, when he says "she couldn't scream when I held her close." Yeah, she couldn't scream... because she was dead. That doesn't mean Jenny is a prostitute. I just thought the choice to include death in the Brightside video was an interesting choice, and with the Killers, it seems like every choice has some deeper meaning. Like I said, I understand that is is very likely that I have an active imagination and The Killers had no intention of making this song similiar to the Jenny songs. But it is still fun to think about, isn't it? (If I sounded confusing at any point and you want to ask me to explain my reasoning more, just reply. I am willing to discuss my weird thought patterns. :D) |

This is a sexy song in all its entirity. :) But at the same time it doesn't sound like the intentions are necessarily slutty. It sounds like he wants someone to be with to feel whole for a night. It is really good and makes me feel happy! The horns make me want to dance. |
Franz Ferdinand – Michael Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Who cares if they are gay or not? They rock plain and simple, and this is an amazing song. The fact that it is about a guy doesn't change a thing. It's stupid to think if they changed a few word to make it sound like they were talking about a girl all of a sudden people would accept it. Seriously. You people need to stop worrying so much. It's just a goddamn song. If you're "offended" deal with it because you can't just ignore homosexuality in the real world by skipping a song on a cd. The song isn't making you become gay. Don't take it so seriously. Laugh. You have to admit it is a fun song! You guys must be jealous because no one has had a man crush on you. ;) |
