I love this song!! I borrowed the cd from a friend and I immediately gravitated this song. In my opinion it's basically about the partner going through a hard time, maybe in the relationship, maybe not. And he just doesn't feel like he can get past it. She's trying to let him know that they share so much that they are the same person. They share the same strength. If he feels like he can find the strength from her he can also find it in himself. |

To me this song is just saying that bad things are going to happen to you. Whether you know it or not...they will happen. And they may may not happen at the most convenient times and you will be extremely upset and down because they did happen. I know that with bad thing after bad thing happening to me in the past five months alone I have wanted to just give up and never try again. But just as this song tells me that life is hard, it also tells me that if you give in to the bad things you won't be able to take advantage of all the good things that may come your way. When she says "it's only life" it's like she's saying, "Bad things happen. Deal with them as best as you can and move on. You can never get better if you only dwell on the bad stuff." It is really motivational. I love it!!! |

marmalade16...here's what I think in response to your comment. I looked up godforsaken and it means miserable in terms of appearance or circumstance. I actually think it goes very well in regards to the song and that it is necessary. I figure what the song is saying is that this person has spent his life trying to appease others, trying to fit into what they want him to be. Basically what you get is that life is too short to waste time trying to be someone you are not, you are what you are; changing that only creates chaos and anger. So be yourself. In any case, if who you are is a disappointment to others...screw them, you're you. Even when others see you at what they feel is your lowest you are still you and you deserve to be loved. I hope that wasn't too confusing...that's how i feel though....and this song is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! |

So, I heard this song in the beginning of this year. Or something like that. In any case, it didn't really hit me until just recently. My life is hell right now. I am not saying it more hellish than anyone else's, but it pretty far gone for me right now. And I was writing in my journal one day and I wrote: Life has problems. They are not meant to break you down, they exist so that you can build up to the person you are meant to be. This song means so much to me right now. i don't really have a thing for people in unfaithful relationships, i think it's wrong, but a part of me is just drawn to this song. and the emotions. i loved it when i first heard it on my friend's cd, but when i saw the video, it just got so much better. i think what makes this song so popular and beautiful is the fact that she gets the strength to leave. so many times, so often other women would stay in the situation wishing for the better and hoping to get the man. but knowing when a dream will never be more than that...and knowing when you are worth more makes you a stronger person. and it lets you know that the struggle you went through was not in vain. |

USER1910...my favorite is "better that we break"...this has nothing to do with goodnight, goodnight....please don't kill me...lol!!! there are several reasons too....first i think is because i think it takes guts to accept that maybe you should just break...i mean you have to have noticed that you weren't getting better and it has to be one of the most painful things ever...espcially when you love that person and then, not to say that adam's pain is worse than hers is, but he acknowledges his pain above hers, even though he knows he'll miss her and all that they had together...it's not a rarity in songs, but it seems to be one of the only times i've heard him sing this way and then....will you just listen to his voice and tell me that he doesn't seem as sad as he could possibly be? yes....i do love "better that we break" |

this is another great one...when i first got the cd...i loved nothing lasts forever more than anything...then i heard this (this song is soooo beautiful). Anywho, this song is so emotional...i would say that that it is one of the most emotional off the cd...makes me want to cry every time i hear it i agree with those of you who feel as if he is with a girl and he cares for her but he still loves the one from a previous relationship...i think the lines that show this most are: "You make me think of someone wonderful / But I can’t place her / I wake up every morning / Wishing one more time to face her" and "I know I can be closed / But I'll try my best to reach you; Goodnight, hope that things work out all right" it's like he wants it to work but he's bot denying the underlying problems. i love this song...it's my #2 on the cd. |

this song is currently my favorite one off the album...and as so many of you have said, the lyrics are pretty much self explanatory...but what i love most about this song is the music and the chorus. i think because i can identify with them so much right now... DMADSEN...i agree with you that although he says those words that he doesn't really want to. it's obvious when he tells her that the city is nice but he can't see it clearly b/c when she's there everything else is out of focus...i mean when the words first pop into your head (it's better that we break), when you realize that all you could and would do to improve the relationship still wouldn't be enough....you just know that you have to let go...but still...who would want to acknowledge that the love they had is now gone??? this song is deep and painfully honest...even so, i love it so very much...totally had it on repeat on my ipod the entire day...lol |

oh how i love this song....it's one of the most beautiful one's i've ever heard. i think this is actually one of my favorites. i don't think there is an audio version out....or else i'd have it...lol so, i think i like aushpog's meaning the most. i think what makes this song are the lines: ---Happiness feels a lot like sorrow ---Let it be, you can’t make it come or go Sorrow is a sad thing to experience but everyone knows that the best remedy for it is time. No one goes looking for sorrow...it just is. And to me, happiness is the exact same thing. True happiness is not something one looks for. Ponder this...when one is sad, isn't it more likely that the person will search frantically for a way to get from it? That happiness isn't real. Real happiness is like falling in love, like getting great unexpected news. And the main reason for all of those things is because you aren't searching for it. AUSHPOG::i actually think it could be either/both of your choices. because happiness for one person could lie within another person...it reminds me of the old, extremely familiar saying (if you love something let it go, if it comes back then it means so much more). a lot of happiness can come with a person who makes the decision to return on his/her own. and the same can be said almost any kind of thing that provides that meaningful happiness. still, i love isaac's voice in this song. i first heard it at a concert in january....i can't wait to hear it again in july!!!!! seriously, i tell my friends all the time that if i could marry his coice i would...lol |

this song is sweet....that's the first thing i thought when i learned the lyrics to this song...i think he writes a lot about having that person there to make life better than it currently is. like so many things can be wrong in life but having that one person there can change the entire situation. when i first heard the song i wasn't really into it...the music just wasn't me. but the words just change the song...and how it sounds. but i like it cause it's sweet...lol! i wonder if love is really that way...and if it is can i have it cause i'm feeling pretty crappy right now. |

i can't believe that no one has commented on this yet....this song is great. seriously, sometimes stability is a good thing. and people who are always changing their minds is one of my pet peeves. cause all you can really think is "is he/she being real with me right now?" my favorite part is "I got to know before it's over...one way or the other...if you're stringing me along"---this song just describes an incredibly annoying situation which then leads to problems. my ex-best friend was like that...she's angry then she's happy, she's cool to be around and then she's not.....eventually you just realize you can't take it...the erratic emotions and actions...and then you leave. life is too short to live with the bs other people provide. |

james morrison said this song was about his life as a kid...you know....chores before you can play and all that. he kind of resented his mom for that...i think the girl's part can kind of be like she is good at all those things but there's no one there to share it with her...probably cause they are so busy worrying about themselves. i'm still here but it hasn't been easy i'm sure that you had your reasons i'm scared of all this emotion for years i've been holding you down ^^^all i can say for this part is that it's never easy to get to a certain place in your life when there's no one in your corner...or even when it SEEMS that no one is in your corner. and knowing that you made it where you are is a gift like nothing else and it is something to be proud of. this part is basically about accepting what happened and living with it... and i'd love to forgive and forget so i'll try to put all this behind us just know that my arms are wide open the older i get the more that i know well it's time to let this go ^^^i actually think this is one of the best parts of the song. because you don't have to relate to the rest of the song to relate to this. i mean how many of us have been in the position where we are the ones forgiving? it's not so easy to do that. and the thing is that you've taken a step by trying to put it behind you. "my arms are wide open"...this is the i am forgiving you part. it means that you can look at them and be ok about what happened...it means that you are getting past the conflict. "the older i get the more that i know well it's time to let this go"---those are my favorite lines in the entire song. because after looking at your life you kind of realize that holding on to hurts gets you nowhere really. i mean everyone should have to time to deal with things but you can't deal with it so much that you change who you are because of it. and it doesn't benefit you to hold on to it. ---i love this song...originally i didn't care for it as much...but i think it is one of his better songs in terms of it's overall meaning. |

i love this song...because i really can identify with it...it's so sad....but i think those are the songs that touch me the most. i mean giving up someone that you loved is very hard...and then accepting the fact that things have changed really sucks more than the letting go part. because you have been such an integral part of each other....it's almost as if you are losing a pert of yourself. after you try to work it out and things still don't change you really do think it's time to let it go... "the pieces don't fit anymore"---people shouldn't be with someone who doesn't complement them...it hurts but letting them go is a way for you to get better...letting go hurts but it is also liberating.... |

this cd i sone of beauty and self-identification. if you haven't gone through it...you will go through it....and more than likely you want to go through it. this has got to be be one of my favorite songs on the cd. how much emotion can isaac put into his music?? a lot...!!! i'm 18....i've never dated, i have not been in a relationship, and all of the relationships my friends have or have had discourage me....but this song...this song eliminates all of that from my mind. seriously, it makes me ache for the love he's giving to her. and truly i can't wait to find that kind of love and to hold it very very close to my heart. this is a song of not only a great guy, but this is a song of THE greatest guy. and i can tell you if anyone is like me, they are sighing in emotional ecstasy when they listen to this song, on repeat for maybe 3 hours...lol but really, this is my favorite love song by the fray....so beautiful. and i think lots of people agree with me that the best lines in this song are: it's always have and never hold you've begun to feel like home what's mine is yours to leave or take what's mine is yours to make your own ---YOU'VE BEGUN TO FEEL LIKE HOME....isn't that the most beautiful thing you've ever heard. i would be the happiest girl in the world if the guy who loved me expressed that love with those words. that really is my new definition of "real love". it's like he's saying, "you are my security, my comfort, my ease, my heart, my familiarity, my relaxation, and mostly, the center of my being." i want that!!! and as i haven't been in love i can't say that this is "my song" but it is my favorite love song right now....and hopefully forever.! |

yeah....there are a lot of posts that say exactly what i want to say and that is: "this is your maverick this is vienna" a maverick is someone who is independent of thought and action...so, the maverick can be and most likely is the narrator. i mean, maybe she wanted him to be more than he was, which in effect is wanting him to be someone he is not. and maybe he put up with it for a while but who can do that for any period of time? so he left, and i'm thinking the entire maverick idea is sad if you think of it with the music and self-describing. sort of like him saying..."you wanted me to be so much but this...this is who i REALLY am." and vienna....that's a place of beauty, a place to find yourself, a place of being who it is you want to be. and so, i think vienna is just another description of what he's found in himself. for there is little in life that's better than knowing who you are in the face of someone who thinks they do, but really don't. and with that, the chorus is pretty self-explanatory, no matter how you try to make it seem. he's gone and she or whoever, can't get him back. another one of my favorite songs on the HTSAL cd. Beautifully written and incredibly emotional. it touches me very much. |

yeah...i love this song soooo much the world can be a mean place and when it all seems to be going wrong, you really can't see the point in being on it...but can this song not be taken as a plea for a better life? i don't think it's religious or anything of that nature but when he says the line "show me waht it's like to be the last one standing", I think of God for he's the only one who can do so. And I also believe that this allows for a deeper appreciation of life. I mean...seriously, how would you feel if you knew when everyone was going to die except for yourself? You would live. this song can be interpreted in so many ways... ---it can be the entire suicide thing ---it can be the drug thing ---it can be the estranged parent/child thing i like to think that many people can identify with this song. it doesn't have to be about drugs or any of that. in identification with me, i think that losing someone in any kind of way can disrupt the flow of a person's life...an entire life can change because one person left or whatever you want to say. when bad things happen, people don't always deal with it so they become negative. and if someone you loved was going through a rough time you would want to help. trouble is, sometimes you can't always help. ***this is truly one of my favorite songs by the fray just because everyone can identify with it and because it tells of the harsh realities of life in a softer, less harsh way. |

everytime i hear this song i am reminded of my mom. we got along great for the most part but there is always something you won't agree upon. i always wish that we hadn't fough about stupid things while she was here. which brings us to the song...it's great because anyone who has lost a loved one or anyone close to them can identify with the feelings it brings. i first heard it when i was wathcing the vma's....i started crying because of the feelings it brought forward for me and if you haven't lost a loved one...this song is a wake up call and a warning.... but it's doesn't hve anything to do with christina's personal life....linda perry wrote it about her relationship with her deceased father and gave it to christina to see if she liked it or whatever....and she did, she (christina) just changed it so that anyone could identify with it. i dont think anything will top this for me for a long time. it's beautiful. |
