The song actually exactly follows the mood of the Stranger...and if I recall correctly, it's been awhile since I read it, isn't the jury of his peers more upset he was neglectful of his mother, than killing this guy (?). The end of the book Mersualt has deviant speech (like the heavy part of the song)...but in the end, in typical existentialist form...nothing really matters... |

If that's true, that is a cool f'n story...no way to verify as people have pointed out..the one nighter interpretation does seem like the obvious...I always found the line of "the thought of those sweet ladies sending shivers through my veins" Doesn't make sense, no one would make that analogy if it was really "women" who "shivers through the "veins"...perhaps that's your shooting up reference. |

A great thing about this song is you can take verses out of context to mean many things, especially to you...an ex gf of mine started randomly texted me about something stupid (it was not a good break-up, lot's of complications, she had a spouse, etc., it got UGLY anyway, I simply wrote back, because I had no idea why she was contacting me....
"You can laugh at my behavior

It's a story in Genesis, Cain bashes his brother Able to death, with a rock, if I recall correctly, it's even mentioned in the song. Wow, I feel old and I was a kid when this came out. This is the title track to a movie that came out in 1984 with Jeff Bridges, James Woods and this smokin' HOT British actress at the time Rachel Ward , who was like the flavor of that year. There's a lot of twists in the movie, I'm not going to get totally into it, but Bridges and Ward fall in love, and creates a love triangle between Woods, Bridges and Ward, but then all this "stuff" happens. At the end of the movie Bridges's is looking at Ward at some event or something like that. She doesn't even know he's watching her, she's moved on, he's still in love with her, but it's obviously not going to end the way he wants it....with her..... hence...against all odds... the lyrics actually do fit the movie... |

I was under the impression and told by a few in the music biz that he was, not that anything is wrong with that. There is a big difference between dramatic and deep. Kafka is deep, this music is dramatic....MELODRAMATIC to the point that is actually humorous. |

Oh my god, I can't believe the sappy comments about this song, actually, I can. What makes this song great, and when I say great, I mean like a guilty pleasure, is it is SOOO melodramatic and over the top cheesy, you have got to love it! From the writer, whose style was over the top, to the the scratchy 80's belting of Bonnie, it very well be the best, over the top one-hit wonder of the 80s. You people actually feeling real emotion from this have got be twelve year olds with puppy love crushes or simply quite pathetic.
(Of course the Dan Band cover is AWESOME!)

The best of the "newer era" ST!! This song is so awesome I remember when it first came out...the video kicked ass too, frigin John Cusak was in it yelling at Mike Muir (or the mind of Mike Muir) that was a "maget!"

Oh, and as for video games, check out Scarface the World is Yours...after you play the prequel and the game starts (like a movie), it goes into an introduction with credits rolling and its you as Tony Montana, cruising around Miami in his original gaudy caddy convertible (before the world was his)...just making riduclous gestures, with out couse this song playing... I didn't read all of these, but I distintcly remember hearing what this song is about and did not see anywhere. I can see where you all get "The Stanger" connection, but I'm not buying it and I've read that book cover to cover too many times I can remember. Anyway, this what I heard the song is about and I'll look up to confirm. There was a incident in England of this woman Rosemary who was brutally abused/raped habitually by the same predator. As I undertand, he decided to go out a killing/rape spree and took her along to actually assist him in these acts all along the countryside. She actually falls in love with him. They convicted for life setences, she doesn't care because their "together". He ends up killing himself. "You spent a lifetime, with no cellmate...." |

Wow, I'm feeling old now.. Dressed2, yes, Kerry King definitely played the solo, he's even in the video. As for ACDC, funny you mentioned that, if I recall the main guitar riff is actually TNT by ACDC tuned down and slowed down.. you can kind of hear it. However, rock and rap were merging before this... Anthrax, I'm the Man, while not released until 1987, the band had been playing the song for quite some time... and of course, RUN DMC Aerosmith was before this. |

I'm not a huge Leopard fan, but I do remember this song came out, or the album, I guess I should say, I don't believe this wasn't a single, I thought it was pretty cool back when I was like 10, 11, whenever this came out, anyway, I remember thinking this song was pretty cool, now that I'm older, songs like this irritate me. I don't know where Brits got off with this holier than though attitude that America is the route of destroying the world when they are (and always have been, post-indepdence times, for the most part) been are biggest alli and in cahoots. Lot of British bands have done this, from varios genres, Iron Maiden and Midnight Oil, I think it was, concering crimes to Indians, it's annoying. Where did they think white anglican americans learned this behavior?? (And I may be white, but I'm far from Anglican). They should look back at their own barbabic history, like or not, it's the route of ours. |
