It is so beautiful. I believe the song is about pussy. That is the “crimson door”. That’s why her love will be the death of him. He had dated and fell in love with a woman and for some reason broke up. They were living together, and she left and his life was a mess. For whatever reason she came back to live with him. But they were not a couple. Just fuck buddies, even though they both really loved each other deep down. The “Crimson door” is of course the inside of a woman. They both hide behind sex and love, even though a reunion could never truly transpire. In the first verse. Flowers are either physical or representing gifts, given by the man to the woman.
