Kaleo – All the Pretty Girls Lyrics | 5 years ago |
@[Lyrael:27171] Thank you! I liked the song a lot and was a bit grossed out when I read the lyrics. Also, @[Broksan:27172], if you think you're being "friend zoned" because you're a nice guy, then you're not a nice guy. Women have the right to choose to be with whomever they choose to be with, regardless of what you think of their choice in men. It's not your right to decide they should be with you because you're "in love" with them. If you really loved someone you'd know that love isn't about possession. |
Kaleo – All the Pretty Girls Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[Peach143g:19195] I never anything about Samuel being promiscuous, a douchebag or any other thing and it certainly doesn't bring up any pain or resentment from my youth. It just seems misogynistic to talk about how it's not fair that all the pretty girls like Samuel and he won't share them, even though he has more than he can handle - girls aren't objects to be passed to someone else because the person they're interested in has more than his fair share of women. It's kind of gross, to be honest. |
Kaleo – All the Pretty Girls Lyrics | 9 years ago |
This song screams misogyny. I don't know if they're being tongue-in-cheek or not, but I hope so. |
Panic! at the Disco – Casual Affair Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Obviously it's about an affair. I suspect one is married (the sinner) and the other isn't (the lover). "Just lay in the atmosphere" = that weightless, post-coital feeling of relaxation? "Break involuntary ties" = wedding vows? |
Bastille – Pompeii Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think the song's about change of any kind, but, to me, it sounds like it's comparing an actual place to Pompeii. Maybe a small hometown and it's changing around him, probably growing and he's unhappy with the changes. It's making him reflect on his life and that it's kind of gone nowhere. |
Phantogram – A Dark Tunnel Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Oh, and "Dark Tunnel" probably references the whole light at the end of the tunnel thing that you supposedly see when you die. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for this person though, or at least they feel that way because they're severely depressed. |
Phantogram – A Dark Tunnel Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think it's about severe depression leading to suicide, possibly murder-suicide. The whole "Don't try to tell me that you love me cause you don't" makes me think of a relationship that went bad, maybe a break up or cheating. He's obviously angry - you can tell just by the tone and all the random violent threats he's making. "I'll shoot down every person that I want to love" is maybe a play on the phrase "shoot down" which can mean murder or decline something (an invitation, a date, etc). The chorus is obviously talking about suicide and the questions his "loved one" won't ever have answers for. I literally spent an hour playing with EQ stuff to try to hear the spoken part. I got what I could and couldn't distinguish any other single word. It's missing the middle part (the music gets louder and I couldn't lower it enough to hear clearly). If anyone knows what it says, lemme know. I have my own theory about it. I think it's a voicemail left for the person who killed themselves. This girl is thanking him for something. It sounds like he let her vent to him or was a shoulder to cry on. I don't think they know one another very well and she has no idea he's dead. Suicidal people tend to think that no one would care if they were dead or that everyone would be "better off" without them. This voice-mail flies in the face of that; someone did care and she's apparently left several voice-mails trying to get a hold of him. It makes me think about people who killed themselves and the little things they may have done for someone that left a huge impact without even realizing it. I guess the message is that you can never know what effect you have on people. |
Blondfire – Where The Kids Are Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I like the Wizard of Oz references. They're very fitting in this song. Also, I think the line "Don't take my chances" is telling the addressee not to *not* take chances. She seems to regret not living life to fullest, so the chances she took were not taking any chances at all, if that makes sense. The lines "You're such a beautiful girl" and "Smile for the lenses" kind of make me think maybe she was self-conscious or shy when she was young, which maybe stopped her from being as free as she could have. |

We Are Trees – Sunrise Sunset Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think that the author/singer is keeping watch over a suicidal lover. They're arguing and he tells her he's leaving to be alone. I don't think she threatens it outright, but maybe she had attempted in the past? He remembers this before leaving and decides to either stay until the sun rises again. This is either literal - he's staying through the night because he could call her friends/family in the morning maybe, or figurative - he's staying until she's not so depressed. The whole "Stop. Your heartbeat will fall. And I will cry until you wake up." is him telling her not to do it, because he won't stop crying if she was successful. |
St. Lucia – Paper Heart Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It's about someone who's very emotionally fragile - she/he has a "paper heart" and isn't true to her/himself to keep from disagreeing with someone, maybe a love interest? It reminds me of someone who defines themselves by the relationship they're in, and when that relationship ends, they lose their identity ("And who are you now, when you don't know where to start?") The whole "push the brakes down" thing is referring to this person going from relationship to relationship very quickly to avoid being alone, and they're telling her/him to slow down, give your heart a chance to heal and figure out who you are before you end up back where you started again. |
Reptar – Orifice Origami Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The last 2 stanzas remind me of a medication called Prazosin. Yeah. Weird. But I'm serious. I have PTSD and take it for nightmares. The line about running around trying to console the other person reminds me of my boyfriend trying to console me after an awful nightmare following a missed dose of the medication. |

Ahhh! That makes sense, Blown. Thank you! ...Still not sure why it's showing those lyrics there, I have no idea what song that is. |
Adele – Rumour Has It Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Oh, and @Joey007 I said "IF you think that having a judgment...then I feel bad for..." Keyword: IF. If you don't, then that comment doesn't pertain to you. |
Adele – Rumour Has It Lyrics | 11 years ago |
My parents are divorced too. Not uncommon these days. They're not divorced because we're kind enough to support her until she has a job with health insurance of her own. They've been separated for 3 years, we've been together for the length of that. We were together for more than 2 years (not including the affair, I'm only counting the time after he moved out) before introducing me to his kids. The kids are happier now than they were before, even his wife will admit that, because my boyfriend isn't miserable and always on edge around them. She knew he was unhappy for a long time but didn't know what to do about it. Remember those greys I mentioned? Yeah. |

3D Friends – Lina Magic Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I like the way everyone sees the meaning of some songs through their own filter. Some songs' meanings are pretty obvious, others are completely nonsensical, and still others (like this one) can have an infinite number of meanings, usually very dependent on each listener's experiences. |
St. Lucia – All Eyes On You Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I have no idea why those lyrics are showing there. I didn't submit those. I submitted this: I would never take back words that I said that I will always come back to you Even in the meantime I will always stand by a mirror on the shelf Call you in the nighttime call you in the daytime canvas up to you. 'Cause I hope I never have to take back said in the night I that I'll always have all eyes on you Know that I'll take what I can when they said in back, soft speaking in the dead of night All eyes on you. I will never take back words that I said that I will always come back to you Even in the meantime I will always stand by a mirror on the shelf 'Cause I hope I never have to take back said in the night I that I'll always have all eyes on you Know that I'll take what I can when they said in back, soft speaking in the dead of night All eyes on you. I hope I never have to take back said in the night I that I'll always have all eyes on you Know that I'll take what I can when they said in back, soft speaking in the dead of night All eyes on you. That's not even the right song. /irritated. Anyways, I'm unsure of some of them. I tried as best I could. If anyone has a better idea, lemme know. Particularly frustrating lines that I could use help with: -"Canvas up to you". Best guess. Makes no effing sense though. ...So yeah. -"they said in back, soft" This maybe makes sense. I don't know. That's what I heard. |
Passion Pit – Take a Walk Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's about how contagious this materialistic, money-driven society we live in is. An immigrant saved up all his money to bring his family here and talks about how lonely it was without them. Once they get here, their and his values change and they don't see one another except for maybe once a year. His wife is maybe ashamed that they're having money problems, they're trying to look like they have a lot of money, like a keeping-up-with-The-Joneses kind of thing. I think the walking is him remembering what is important - getting back to basics. He sees his family and realizes that he does it for their sake, so they don't have to suffer the way he has. In the end, he lost a bunch of money and there's possibly some kind of Ponzi scheme involved (criminal?). He's saying he didn't intend to hurt anyone, he was just too proud to ask for help when he started to drown, and it just spiraled out of control. |

Adele – Rumour Has It Lyrics | 12 years ago |
@stephernoodle If I was ashamed of my actions, not only would I not have done it, I certainly wouldn't post about it. Judge, don't judge: I don't care. Just be careful up there on your moral high-horse - it's a long fall and you can't know what you would do in *any* situation unless you were in that same. exact. one. @Cobehn Thanks for defending me. You're sweet. <3 @Joey007 You're right, people are going to judge no matter what. You forgot something though - one is not obligated to voice (or type) every passing thought in their head. If you think that having a judgment means you need to make that person aware of it, well, I feel bad for your future wife/children/friends/family. Kindness goes a long way. As far as your advice for me, unsolicited advice is not advice at all: it's an attack. I'm going to assume stephernoodle and Joey007 are young, so I won't attack in return. I will say that maybe you should try taking a look at the greys once in awhile. Not everything is black and white, good or bad; not everyone is saint or sinner, virgin or whore. |
The Jezabels – A Little Piece Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It sounds like someone walked out on Hayley (just assuming for the sake of making things easier) for someone else, someone that was physically "perfect". Hayley's former lover (I have to agree with Almondy, there are strong lesbian overtones here) was chasing the dream of having a very attractive girlfriend, and the first verse is her saying that she could have fought for her ex, could have chased her/him, but that would seem desperate. The hot chick breaks his/her heart, and he/she comes crawling back to Hayley. They watch a movie, and I'm not sure which of them is becoming the monster - either the ex because she's using Hayley for sex (the whole "piece of cherry pie" business), or Hayley because she's going to make the ex pay for dumping her. I think the whole "Sailor, sailor" and "Honah Lee" verse is referring to the Puff The Magic Dragon/the theme song, which Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul and Mary) said was about the loss of innocence/imagination as you're growing up - this fits in with the kaleidoscope dream line earlier, maybe it's referring to the ex's delusions about what life with the other person would be like? The last verse seems overtly sexual - Hayley's taking control of the relationship, sexually and otherwise. Favorite part: "Stranger, baby, always keep me in your sweet memory." Amazing line. |
Chairlift – Sidewalk Safari Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I know they say it's about GTA, but I like to think it's about revenge. Thinking about it in terms of revenge makes the first three lines creepy and amazing. Also, I can think of someone I would love to say these things to. |
Eliza Doolittle – Rollerblades Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's a relationship that's gone stale and she's telling him that he needs to make up his damn mind - either stay and actually act like you care ("Take your seat..."), or leave. He's in between staying (sitting) and going (walking away) - he's just standing there. She's frustrated with the indecisiveness and is starting to move on already while they're still in the relationship. I think the whole "beating up on yesterday" line is about him saying he regrets the time spent in the relationship. And the train is a physical representation of him leaving - he keeps thinking he'll wait until it's easy to "get off" - when the train stops. She's saying it's not going to be easy, basically telling him to take the leap, tuck and roll. |
Snake River Conspiracy – More Than Love Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This means more than love to me. More than you'll ever be. Pretty sure the second ? is right. ^.^ |
Tokyo Police Club – Listen to the Math Lyrics | 12 years ago |
So I have no idea about most of the song - but I think I figured out the part after "Australopithecine". I think it's about Lucy and how that was the first hominid discovered to be identified as a female , which rocked the scientific world and kind of captured everyone's hearts. I remember when she was first discovered (I was pretty young) and National Geographic had an article about her with artist-rendered pictures of her and a baby australopithecine acting like modern day mother-and-child. She was incredibly popular, and I think that's because most people (no matter how objective they try to be) look at anything female and it reminds them automatically of their mother, daughter, sister, wife, etc. It's this same phenomena that caused a stir when we first entered Afghanistan - many people disagreed with women being on the front lines. When a woman was injured/captured, it was a much bigger deal (Jessica Lynch, anyone?). Anyhow, this is only my theory. For whatever reason, Lucy struck a cord in the hearts of the scientific community, and the whole "rekindle your heart, these hospital machines are state of the art" line is about the world having this obsession with giving her a "heart"- as in, giving her emotions, and a child (like NG did), which isn't scientific at all. I think the hospital machines further proves this because they gave her an MRI to learn more about her. This would be seen as a scientific action, but they say "hospital" as if she's alive and they're treating her, not using it for autopsy. The whole point is that Lucy made anthropology "emotional". And that's what I think the song is getting at. |
Young the Giant – Cough Syrup Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Cough syrup is great for stopping your coughing. Unfortunately, coughing isn't the problem - it's the solution. Your body coughs to rid itself of bacteria and other irritants in the respiratory tract. The less you cough, the longer the bacteria stays in your body, the longer you're sick. I think the song is about abusing cough syrup to cope. With what, I have no idea. Cough syrup treats the symptoms of a bigger problem - like a bacterial infection when you're sick, or depression when you're not. He's ignoring the real cause of his depression, therefore prolonging the pain. |
Adele – Rumour Has It Lyrics | 13 years ago |
My boyfriend's son (4 yrs old) was humming this song. I asked him what it was and he said "Rumor Has It". I am assuming that means my boyfriend's wife has played this song a few times. We had an affair, I'm about half his age. Huh. |
Phantogram – Let Me Go Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Okay. So now I'm thinking break-up that's making her leave. I honestly have no idea. Oh well. |
Phantogram – Let Me Go Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think it has something to do with going back home after you've grown and been away for a long time. No matter what it's about, the first time she sings "So let me go" is absolutely haunting. I'm in love. |
3D Friends – Lina Magic Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Young the Giant – My Body Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Rather surprised no comments have been made on this song. I have almost no idea what it's about, but I kind of get the feeling he's being nostalgic about where he grew up and the place doesn't exist anymore? Anyone? |
Slow Runner – Trying To Put Your Heart Back Together Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is about going through the motions after a heartbreak. Just trying to get back to normal - or "put your heart back together". I loves it. |
Eminem – Love The Way You Lie (feat. Rihanna) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Not only does Rihanna know what she's singing about here, but does no one remember Eminem and Kim? This is as much about them as it is Rihanna and Chris. Apt people for this song. |
Eminem – Love The Way You Lie (feat. Rihanna) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I was in a relationship JUST LIKE this one. He was physically abusive, but only because he was stronger. We both had tempers. We'd fight and then he'd promise to never hurt me again and I'd go back - there's something to be said about a man that loves you so much he hurts you. You can't understand it unless you've been there. It was wrong and unhealthy and it's over now. But I miss him and I can totally see us in this song. |
Shontelle – Impossible Lyrics | 14 years ago |
That isn't what the video is about. The video is about a couple that are in the music business. The husband is a dick to her and puts the music before her. She got a letter from the recording studio. She walks in on him celebrating an award he got that he didn't tell her about. In the end she leaves him a copy of her demo and leaves, probably to go become famous with the recording studio from the letter. The video is about a man not paying attention to the talent just under his nose. |
OK Go – End Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I agree with ReciprocatingSaw. On all counts. (I lovessss the 80s feel too!) |
The New Pornographers – Challengers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
They have to forget one another when they're with their significant others. or at least attempt to, because it would be obvious if someone else was on their mind all the time. |
Horse Feathers – Falling Through The Roof Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Abusive relationship? "It's likely you will lie as your tongue will taste the sky. Like it was once." I think she's lying about the evidence of being abused. "As your tongue will taste the sky, like it was once" possibly refers to her remembering how happy she used to be in the relationship, and using this to fend off any allegations? Not sure. I have Pandora to thank for hearing the song though. Love it :) |
Jose Padilla – Adios ayer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I believe the title of this is actually "Adios Ayer 2001". Adios Ayer is more instrumental, and only has the first verse repeated. I'm thinking "I feel everything and sorrow" is actually "I fill everything with sorrow". Or maybe "I feel everything with sorrow". It sounds like that to me and makes more sense. I think it's about a relationship that he didn't think would last or be anything important - "Didn't think that we would love like this; I never thought that I would care" - and now he realizes how important she is to him. He feels that he is emotionally damaged - "I feel everything with sorrow" - and because of this he's leaving her - "So I have to say goodbye". He wants her to be happy and feels that he is dragging her down with what I think is probably depression - "Thinking of tomorrow; With the sunset in your eyes." - and he's talking about how he's thinking about her being happy/alive (??) "tomorrow" watching the sun setting. "Slowly now I read the writing; It will free us if we dare." I think he's saying that he realizes that he needs to leave, the relationship's over, and they can be free if they dare to let go. "If there is new love new ways; New faces in our lives; Those times will last forever". He's telling her that they both need to go on living and as long as they do, their times together will always be in their memories. Maybe? This is all just my take, but I get the vibe that maybe he's depressed and she's suicidal, and they're making it worse by being together. Maybe he blames her being suicidal on his depression? Or maybe he's the suicidal one and it's bringing her down, so he's leaving and the last verse is him telling himself not to do anything stupid, not her. Anyways.... thoughts? |
Phoenix – 1901 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Gosh, I hate music snobs. Get off it. And by the way, it's etc, ect. Pettiness sucks when you're the target, huh? |
Tori Amos – A Sorta Fairytale Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is about an affair. They met when her car broke down. He's married, and is very much in love with his wife, but also with her. This isn't a one night stand kind of deal, more like a long-term, fully emotional relationship. She's saying the day is bittersweet in that it has to end, they can't be together. She doesn't expect him to leave his wife - she understands the situation, but he lets her down in some other way. At the end she's saying she never thought they'd end up like this; she is bitter about his actions, but still in love despite this. I think I'm the only one who sees it this way, and it may very well be wrong. But it's my take. |

Chairlift – Planet Health Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Like the plot to a lost dystopian sci-fi, the song outlines life on "Planet Health" -- a place where body-image has become a tyrannical philosophy. Here, advice on healthy diet and sexuality has become law and the food pyramid has become a church. Of course non-attendance means eviction from Planet Health. Planet Health is Mount Olympus sans the fun; a place where David Cameron and Gillian McKeith make out into eternity, never aging, never putting on weight. It's the other side of Radiohead's 'Fitter Happier', where the new caring conservatives have slapped lippy on the pig on antibiotics and called it 'sexy'. " NME 8/5/08 |
Ray LaMontagne – I Still Care For You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"You wanted me to be less a lover than a mirror". I think he's saying that the other person had him around because it reflected well on them. A sort of I-must-be-good-because-look-who-wants-me deal. This person feels good about themselves by association, but that doesn't make it love, and that's what the problem is. |
Dead Confederate – The Rat Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"You live inside your Jesus dream" is the best line from this song by far. I think its about people and how we "throw all our judgments across the breeze" by killing the rats and sweeping up the dead leaves to bag and burn them. People pretend to believe in God, but they're killing the world to make it more convenient for them, which is the "Jesus dream" part. Its probably way off, but that's all I could make of it. |
Black Kids – Look at Me (When I Rock Wichoo) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The girl's a religious prude. She won't put out and he's getting annoyed. "If true love waits, it's a big mistake No need to feel ashamed" She says they need to wait until they're married, he says that's not true love then. "I don't care what you've been taught I say "baby", you say "bump it" All you wanna hear is Gabriel's trumpet" Obvious religious reference - she wants to get into heaven. "You never wanna give me some You're gettin' off on kingdom come Well, if the Lord take you tonight C'mon girl, you best treat me right" More religious junk. |
Interpol – Mind Over Time Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Fadedlips, I think the "borrowed clothes" line talks about the clothing that the person is buried in? I think the whole idea is a drug overdose death - not many drug users I know have proper burial clothes. |
