Cold War Kids – Saint John Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Someone touched on it, but there's definately a theme of racial tension/racism going on here. As in, the guy, presumably a black guy, very well might've not been on death row if he was white, but since he killed a white guy, he's on death row, rather than, perhaps, having any shot of getting off on account of defense. I dunno. That's what I see. |

where do you get these lyrics from? As far as I can tell, this song is instrumental. |
Bob Dylan – Isis Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In school we're learning all about the ancient egyptian gods. Isis was the wife of Osirus. They then had a child, Horus. Seth, the god of evil, kills Osirus. Then, Horus kills Seth. So, is there any chance that it is supposed to be Osirus telling the story? And perhaps the crazy man is Seth. Of course, if this is valid, then this is supposed to be a modernized version (in parts) of that story - "Went in to a laundry to wash my clothes down/ A man in the corner approached me for a match" yet, they also speak of pyramids, so I'm really not sure. Who knows. Great song. |

Neutral Milk Hotel – Song Against Sex Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Neutral Milk Hotel – April 8th Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I just read 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea', a book all about the band before, during, and shortly after the breakup - and it confirmed that 'On Avery Island' was about a spiritual experience Jeff Mangum had with a buddha statue, so I think my guess might be correct. But who knows. |
The Decemberists – The Crane Wife 1 and 2 Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The Decemberists – Shanty for the Arethusa Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"But if you listen, quiet, you can hear the footsteps on the cross-trees" If you listen quietly, you can actually hear the footsteps. mwahahah. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Communist Daughter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think semen is used as a metaphor for corruption in this song - I don't think it's intended do be grotesque at all. I mean, semen is also what partly causes human life to exist. I think Jeff was just trying to be poetic, and use semen as a metaphor for snow on the mountain tops, as ThePython mentioned. |
The Decemberists – Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this might be my favorite song on the new album. |
The Decemberists – O Valencia! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
These lyrics are so dark, for such an up-beat song. |
The Decemberists – The Crane Wife 1 and 2 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
These lyrics are pretty straight forward to me, probably because I remember being read "The Crane Wife", or a story close to it, in grade school. Basically, a poor man finds a crane in his yard with an arrow through it - The man helps the crane get better, then sends it off. Shortly after, A woman shows up at his door - they get married, and to help with the money, she weaves cloth. However, she makes her husband promise to never enter the room while she weaves her cloth. One day, the man gives in to his curiosity and enters the room, only to find the woman is in fact the crane, plucking feathers out of herself to weave in to cloth. She then flies away, never to be seen again. That covers the 3 parts - It's not quite perfect, but something like that. |
Flogging Molly – Irish Drinking Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is great. I just find it so funny - I'm not sure why, but it is just such an obvious explanation of a song - the title gives it away! I also hear a ska edge in it. |
The Decemberists – A Cautionary Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
does anyone else hear Colin mumble something right after the crash of the last drum? like, he sings "remember what she does when you're asleep", then there are two accordian chords at the same time as two cymbal crashes, and as the second cymbal crash fades out, if you turn your speakers way up, you can hear him say something. It might be "fast asleep", or perhaps he's just taking a breath... But can anyone make anything out of it? |
Neutral Milk Hotel – April 8th Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I could be incorrect, But I'm pretty sure April 8th is the day Shakyamuni Buddha was born. (that seems like a likely thing Neutral Milk Hotel would write about) |
