When I hear this I wonder how many people are actually in that room. Is it a group of hostages? Or is it another couple that John has created, with one person ready to take both of their lives? The line "God watches over children and he cares for fools in love." make me agree with the latter. |

It's come out in other songs that John spent a lot of time in Chino, and that it had hardened him, and a lot violence and drug use went on there. This song appears to be a sarcastic take on the place, purposely contradicting what Chino was really like. |

Has anyone else noticed that the opening bass line sounds a lot like the tape noise on his old recordings? It has that same driving rhythm, and it opens up the song, just like the tape noise did on the old record. I'm positive that the bass line was deliberately made to sound like that. |

I always took this to be somewhat about suicide. He sets out his "supplies", he's obviously intending to do something. Pills and alcohol are never a good mix, but it seems that he took a less deadly route with the baby aspirin, as opposed to regular strength aspirin. It seems to me that this song takes place much later in life than the rest of the events on the Sunset Tree album, and it sorta sets the mood for the rest of the record. The "you" is most likely his step-father, since the album does center around his relationship. This event could have taken place after his step father's death, although I doubt it, because it kinda contradicts the songs that obviously are about his step fathers's death. But there is definitely some significant break in their relationship in this song, and he's once again fled from home. It's obvious that he's in a state of despair here, he dosen't even bother to put on shoes when he goes down to the store. He's really looking inside of himself, and seeing what he's become, and it seems to me that he's putting himself through this test, with the alcohol and the pills. If he lives through it, he knows he deserves life and will begin to live it to it's fullest. |

This song reminds me of some twisted view of the day of the Lord, where he will come to judge and destroy the sinners and rescue his followers. Since it's from the Sunset Tree sessions, I'd have to say that it has something to do with his life, maybe even just a fantasy of his as a child, his take on what he learned through church or whatnot. |

I believe this song is actually about his own life, it was set to appear on The Sunset Tree, and it actually appears as a b-side on one of that album's singles. He said that his wife loved it, but it just didn't make it onto the record. |

If this song isn't autobiographical, I'd like to know who exactly it's about. He's said that he wrote that album to show people he wasn't the clean-cut bookworm he comes off as in his songs, and to reveal his history with addiction and all that jazz. |

Well, I've heard bootlegs where I really felt he was drunk. A bunch of them really. He talks about it as he drinks. And my friend went to see him and said that he drank all throughout the show. He told me he does it alot. |
