Well said Eire! I completely agree. And Gloria has become one of my favorite songs. It is a great song to sing out loud when your very grateful for something or amazed about the beauty of things.

My favorite part of Bridget Jones is when this song's played. So romantic!

Elvis Costello – She Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the kind of song that takes your attention straight away, from the moment the piano starts.
I first heard it on Notting Hill and loved it immediately. I think it fits really well in this film.
The lyrics are nice as well. He says that she may be all the good things in life or all the bad, but that he loves her anyway.

U2 – Red Hill Mining Town Lyrics 18 years ago
I have never heard what this song's about, but if Rozzer is right, which seems pretty probable to me: Watch Billy Eliot if you're still not sure what this song's about. That movie explains the troubles during the strikes perfectly clear.

U2 – The Wanderer Lyrics 18 years ago
I read somewhere Bono didn't want to sing this one because he thought it was to heavy. U2 and Johnny Cash already new eachother and this song kind of tells his life story. So it's perfect for him to sing.

U2 – Dirty Day Lyrics 18 years ago
Was the relation with his father so bad as this song supposes? It sounds so bitter, like he 's really angry with his father.
He could of course be singing about God. But I think that's very unlikely, because I don't think he has a reason for being angry with God.
The third explanation could be that it's not autobiographical. Perhaps it's about someone he knows.

A mystery this song is to me, but that's not uncommon with U2 songs....

U2 – Some Days Are Better Than Others Lyrics 18 years ago
Reading the last 3 lines I think this must be about how most days just pass by unnoticed and routinely, whereas some days you're able to see the bigger picture. Those are the more special days where you realise life is good, finally understand something or just seem to be ahead on things.
I think that perhaps this song is nothing more than a conclusion about how some days are better than others. I really can't find a deeper meaning behind it, unlikely as it is!

U2 – The Electric Co. Lyrics 18 years ago
In my version (from the live album Under a blood red sky) he sings: 'I love the crowd' and something I can't hear very well in the middle.

U2 – New Year's Day Lyrics 18 years ago
U2takemehigher, I think the line 'This is a golden age but gold is the reason for the wars we rage' means:

This age gives us (the western world anyway) everything we want. Because of the wealth in this age, it's called the Golden age. But it's a fact that people also fight and start wars for this wealth, so it's kind of our blessing AND our doom.

U2 – Cry Lyrics 18 years ago
I believe this one is usually followed by The electric co. I thought it was one song.

U2 – 11 O'Clock Tick Tock Lyrics 18 years ago
This is not one of my favorite songs. I don't think it stands out in the album. Though the lyrics are good. I like the line:
"We thought that we had the answers
It was the questions we had wrong"

U2 – Gloria Lyrics 18 years ago
I think Under a blood red sky is one of their best albums. I like almost every song on it! Gloria is one of the best I think, together with Party girl and 40 (and Sunday bloody Sunday of course).
I also like the Latin part a lot. Especially the last two verses, where this song really starts to rock! I think many unreligious people will find themselves praising the Lord, wether they like it or not. You simply have to sing along: "Gloria in te domine!"

Wich indeed means:
Glory for you Lord,
Elevated (!) glory.
Glory, glory

U2 – Freedom For My People Lyrics 18 years ago
Bono has a realy odd thing round his arm in the DVD, when looking at the musician singing Freedom for my people. I read somewhere he dislocated it or something.

U2 – Beautiful Day Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the perfect song for getting your spirits up, no matter what happened! I love playing it in the car and singing along very loudly! (And watching the faces of people passing by!)
The other day I was in the car with my father, who still needs to get used to me being a U2 fan. I have made a U2 tape for in the car and my father always has to put up with it, but bravely never says anything about it. (I have the sweetest father!) I keep playing this tape, hoping that one day he starts liking them aswell.
It seems to help because when Beautiful day began, my father actually said that he liked this song most! He looked like he was shocked that he just said that to me, admitting that U2's music is not all bad and loud!

U2 – With or Without You Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this is the best song on the Rattle and Hum dvd. It's finally in colour, which is nice. And this song is so powerfull and Bono sings it very well. I especially like the 'Yeah, we'll shine like stars..' part.
I also like the guitar part after he said thank you: Bono starts playing his guitar so enthusiastically! This version is the best I've ever heard.

Peter Gabriel – Don't Give Up Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh I forgot! This is recently covert by Bono and Alicia Keys. Lovely version, for Africa. It made me listen to this one again, I think I prefer the original. It has kind of an 'other wordly' sound.

U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the studio version is very good as well. But you're right, this is one of these songs that just gives you goosebumbs when played live. Wish I could see them live one day...

U2 – Stay (Faraway, So Close!) Lyrics 18 years ago
The video shows much resemblance to City of Angels with Nicolas Cage. Like when in the end Bono jumps of the angel statue and hits the ground. In the movie Nicolas Cage has to jump of a building to become human and so being able to stay with the woman he fell in love with when he was her guardian angel. I think Bono also becomes human after he's hit the ground in the video, because he looks rather smug.

U2 – Bad Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the live version of this song is far better than the studio version. It's played a bit faster and that does a lot for the song in my opninion. I also like the Ruby Tuesday at the end of the live version. I actually hold of listening to this song for a while because of it being called "Bad"! I thought it would be too rough for my taste and was very suprized it was actually a rather nise song!

I love it when a cd's done and the music stops, but for one reason or another you haven't pushed the pay butten again yet and after a long silence a bonus track begins! (that was a long sentence, sorry fot that) Makes me happy al the time!
Still after the fist time that silence seems te become longer and longer and I don't alway wait for the bonus track anymore!

U2 – Pride (In the Name of Love) Lyrics 18 years ago
I heard a funny story about this song in an interview with Bono (Rolling Stone Interview, really good one). He said that sometimes these titles just come out and he can't help it. He said: I'm an Irish male and when I sit down to write songs "In the name of love' does not come into my mind. It's just not going to happen, no way! But sometimes these things just slip out, without me being able to do anything about it. So I had to find a subject worthy enough to deserve this title, and that was MLK.

Bono – I've got you under my skin Lyrics 18 years ago
I absolutele love this song! Bono seems to be able to swing as well as rock!

Has anyone seen the saturday live show about this song? It's really funny, Bono (not real Bono) comes up to Frank Sinatra (also not THE Frank S.) and starts talking about how he's written a lovely song about politics, war and the meaning of life etc.. Then Sinatra quickly says: Just do under my skin and starts counting 'one two three I've got you....' And Bono can't do anything but sing along and looks a bit swept away!

U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday Lyrics 18 years ago
Fuck the revolution!
Love that little Bono speech in Rattle and Hum.

Though I'm from Holland and don't know much about the troubles in N. Ireland, this song gives me an idea about the emotions involved. It sparks!

U2 – Running To Stand Still Lyrics 18 years ago
In the Vertigo DVD Bono rolls up his sleeves and shows his lower arm when he sings the poison line. Quite obvious what he's hinting there I think.
I like the live version of this song so much better then the studio version, much more alive. Edge plays the piano so beautifully!

Did you know this song was used for the trailer for the movie Wimbledon with Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst?
Really good cover in my opinion, the guitar is very good, makes it sound rather happy!

U2 – Desire Lyrics 18 years ago
This is for me an example of how music can grow on you. When I first started listening to U2 I did'nt liked this song at all; this is way to wild for me I thought. But when I listened to it again later on I actually liked it, especially the rythm.

U2 – Kite Lyrics 18 years ago
On the Elevation dvd Bono looks so sad and helpless I get the urge to hug him through the television screen! Later on he looks at Adam and he gives this really friendly encouraging look back, very sweet. Before the last verse Bono turns round and looks at Larry and when he turns back he's nodding. I always like to think he signaling that he's able to do the last verse solo, which is very brave.
I like this song so much because it shows us the emotions behind the song so well. The hurt of loosing someone you loved, the strength of going on and the love we need to be able to do that.

I keep writing: 'This song is one of my favorites', but that would give me a lot of favorite songs!
I think it just shows how much I love U2.

U2 – Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own Lyrics 18 years ago
I could'nt agree more!
From the very start where the bass guitar makes my speakers vibrate this song captures me. The lyrics are one of the most touching I ever heard. Bono's voice seems indeed to be coming right out of his soul. The emotions in this song are so strong!
This is the power of U2, they just get to you. I don't know how they do it, but several of their songs unleash such strong emotions inside! That's what distinguishes true artists. What would we be without music?

U2 – Tomorrow Lyrics 18 years ago
I heard Bono say in an interview that Tomorrow is an excact discription of his mothers funeral. He added he had no idea what the lyrics meant though. He said that in those days he wrote his songs way to fast, like in minutes. He regrets that now and he said that he was planning on finishing those lyrics someday.

U2 – Can't Help Falling In Love Lyrics 18 years ago
I can't believe how high he can sing! I can't even sing along, and I'm a girl!
I never really listened to the lyrics until I heard this version and they're actually quite nice. Love this song, both versions. Very romantic.

U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name Lyrics 18 years ago
This is my favorite song ever. On dvd's it so beautiful I get tears in my eyes every time I hear and see it.
It really makes me long for such a place, where I can run and sing and dance and have no care in the world. It makes me think about the perfect place, heaven or a place on earth and I so much want to be there. It makes me dream and wonder if I will ever get there. It makes me want to live my life as alife as possible, so much it hurts inside! It gives such strong emotions and that's what makes certain songs so strong! Heavenly even.

U2 – When the Stars Go Blue (Ryan Adams cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
I like this song too, never heard the Ryan Adams version. But I don't like the video though. I think Bono looks proud and bored in it. Not at all happy to be there.

U2 – When Love Comes To Town Lyrics 18 years ago
It really made me smile when BB King told Bono in the rattle and Hum dvd that he likes the lyrics a lot but that they are rather heavy for such a young person!
That part of Rattle and Hum also shows a much more modest and anxious Bono. He obviously looks up to BB King and badly wants him appreciate his work. It shows he needs a lot of confirmation, that makes him look sweet and vulnarable.

U2 – Unchained Melody (Righteous Brothers cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
I just recently started listening to U2, but I have become a big fan. I was very pleased to hear them singing this song at Live8. Often when you really like a song, you don't like people covering it. But I think U2 has made a really good version of this one!

I loved this song ever since I saw the movie Ghost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. I really like the instrumental version with the violins and I think the Righteous Brothers version is one of the most romantic songs ever made.

U2 – Summer Wine Lyrics 18 years ago
I made my mother listen to this one because she would'nt understand why I loved U2 so much. She asked me if I was sure this was Bono, because she never knew he could also sound like this! She obviously never bothered to really listen to U2.
Anyway, I like this song a lot because it is a different side of Bono we don't often get to hear (except maybe for I've got you under my skin and When the stars go blue). I really like his voice, it's very low and if I would'nt know better I would think it was a real silver spurred cowboy!

For the meanings of this song I think there raher obvious. She seduced him with her summerwine and stole his silver spurs in the end.

U2 – So Cruel Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the chorus: O-o Lo-o-ove... He's so in love with her that his voice gets really emotional. But I think that in the end he understands that it's no good staying with her and he gives up: To stay with you I'd be a fool.

U2 – Slow Dancing Lyrics 18 years ago
Nice to be the first one to comment on this one! I really like this song, though I prefer the version with Willie Nelson on lead vocals. It just sounds better with his voice. I think it's a really romantic song and I would like to actually dance on it one day...

For the meanings I find it a bit similar to a few other songs. Again it's about a man who's been thrown around by a woman whom he's totally in love with. And he lets her, because he loves her so much.

U2 – MLK Lyrics 18 years ago
This is so much different than all the other U2 songs. I really like it a lot, it's a very good bedtime song as well.
I heard Bono comment on it in the Rolling Stone interview and he told a funny story about it. He said that he was in his car in front of the traffic lights when it was played on the radio. A lot of people where staring at him and he blushed terribly. Not because of the stares but because he thought his voice sounded like a girls voice! He said he sang the song to high.

U2 – Love Rescue Me Lyrics 18 years ago
Love the intro of this song, the harmonica is very soothing. I have a life version of Love rescue me, with a gospel choire in it (unfortunatly without the harmonica) which is really nice. That version sounds very religious to me. So I always thought it was about the love of God, saving him from his dark side.

U2 – Babyface Lyrics 18 years ago
I really like the bells in this song. When you don't listen to the lyrics it's just a really playfull and cheeky song. Then you start listening and find out what he's actually singing... I almost feel embarrased to like it! I don't understand why he calls the girl child though, that makes it sound even more embarrasing. Or is that perhaps not so strange in English?

U2 – All I Want Is You Lyrics 18 years ago
Yes me too, I don't think there is a deeper meaning behind it.
hmmm... It's one of my favorites and one of the songs that made me a fan of this brilliant band. I love the way Bono sings the line: All the riches in the night. It sounds like he wouldn't mind about getting that part!

U2 – Trash, Trampoline, and the Party Girl Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, it always makes me smile. Especially the middle part when Bono sings: Padapadowa padowa dowa! It sounds so full of joy.
I don't know what this song's supposed to mean, but I would'nt be surprised if this indeed is just a fun song, as elkeaso said. It sounds like they're having a good time and I certainly always have a good time listening to it!

U2 – I Will Follow Lyrics 18 years ago
In the Rolling Stone interview Bono says that this song is about agape love. The Greek apparantly have three words for love: agape love is unconditional love, like the love for God. There was also erotic love and friendly love (can't remember the exact words for those ones).
The interviewer then asked Bono if this song was about his mother and he agreed, but said that it could also be about God.
