Health – Tears Lyrics

From what I can guess, the song seems to be a sort of message from Max's dead wife and daughter, telling him to finally move on from grieving their deaths for the past ten years. |

Future Islands – Long Flight Lyrics

It's about a break-up. My guess as to the reasons behind it are that she cheated on him while he was away (if the lyrics are true, maybe while he was on tour?). Sounds like an unsuccessful long-term relationship.
"Just cause you needed a hand" - she needed a hand with coping with his absence, so she cheated on him. |

Sounds like you've got it right, it's about people who have a rough time in high school (i.e. everyone). |

M.I.A. – Caps Lock Lyrics

A lot more melancholic and wounded than the average M.I.A. song. Kind of reminds me of "20 Dollar" from her second album. |

Former Ghosts – Mother Lyrics

Jamie reflecting on his mother's death, wishing he could tell his mother everything that's happened since his death. I'm thinking the "nowhere feels like home" is him observing that, since his mother died, he hasn't really had anyone that he could truly confide in. |

In regards to Silent Hill, it looks like the viewpoint alternates between Walter Sullivan and Joseph Schreiber (the dude who was in the apartment before Henry).
Also appears to be about cocaine, though. |

I've only given Fleurs a few listen-throughs, but this is my favorite song so far. Sterile, brooding, bittersweet, and melancholy, all at the same time. |

Dear lord, this song is mind-blowing. After hearing this song I CANNOT wait for the new album to come out, I don't know how I'm going to live.

There's also a third verse that goes "Clear light pure progress/clear light solves problems", but yeah, amazing song.
The best live performance I've seen of this song (as well as one of the best live performances I've seen, period): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps0Q0fzbjrs |

Sucks that this song is a b-side (and an obscure one at that, from the Shake the Disease single), it really deserves more attention. |

Joy Division – Insight Lyrics

The sound & music of this song definitely contributes to the meaning. The strange keyboard noises fading off into the distance as well as the reflective, thought-provoking guitars give a feeling of desolation and loneliness...listening to this song makes it easy to put yourself in Ian's shoes and see how he was feeling in relation to other people.
I always find it eerie that Ian never actually wrote anything but the lyrics (the other members wrote the music itself), yet the music and lyrics are so in-tune with each other. |

Thom Yorke – Hearing Damage Lyrics

It's so strange, New Moon is such a mediocre movie (better than that crap first movie, though), yet the soundtrack is so phenomenal. Of course the song by Thom Yorke is the highlight of the album, hands down; I wouldn't expect anything less to him. This song is so beautiful. Every time I listen to it, I go into a trance, like the song has completely devoured my thoughts. |

It's really a shame that they didn't release this or "Love Button" on any album, only on samplers they handed out for free at concerts. Oh well. |

The weird keyboard noises disappearing in the distance are most likely a nod to the Joy Division song "Insight", which has a similar sound. |

New Order – Senses Lyrics

I know this sounds cliche, but it sounds like it's about Ian's death.
"My eyes are weary of you before me
I see for their sake, the light of daybreak
It shines upon me, this day we'd all see"
He's in the aftermath of Ian's death, and he's trying to look up and be strong for everyone, and everyone's hoping & trying to get through the grief and pain caused by Ian's death.
"No reason ever was given"
Ian's death was a surprise to the people around him. I believe I remember reading in an interview somewhere that Bernard & the other members of New Order never really took a good look at the lyrics Ian wrote until after his death, then cursed themselves for not seeing all the signs.
"Two sides of recoil, this moment's glory
A failed reminder of a broken story
My vague emotions one day will find"
I'm not so sure on this part, but it kind of sounds like he has so many thoughts running through his head that he can't figure out how to deal with things, but someday he'll have all his thoughts on the subject of Ian's death sorted out.

New Order – Truth Lyrics
|
"I saw some children dance
I watched my life in a trance"
"And the noise that surrounds me
Pulls so loud in my head"
I know that feeling, like you need to step outside yourself and look at things because things in your life are going so horribly and you're enveloped in a mood of melancholy. It seems like when you're in that mood, there's this driving force, this "noise" in your head, that give you a sense of urgency to stop whatever's bothering you; I usually consider it pure desperation.
"From the promise that healed us
To the lies that I said
Oh, it's a strange day
In such a lonely way
Some people look down on me,
I know they like what they see"
Sounds like he hates himself and he hates his life, but he's trying to comfort himself by saying that people in heaven still approve of him? Just a theory. |

New Order – In A Lonely Place Lyrics

I agree with thebodiesobtained that it looks like they changed the last line to "how I wish we were here with you now", although it always struck me that they did that because that was their way of saying "We wish we were here when you wrote this to help you while you were still around". |

I love how this song starts out as a kind of simple, sad reflection on things, but the during the "'cause if I died..." verse the music suddenly gets angrier...and as the verse ends the music goes back to normal... |

Björk – Scatterheart Lyrics

Ha. I laughed after I saw the movie and then listened to this song.
I love how the line "You just did what you had to do" in the movie is "You're gonna have to find out for yourself" in the soundtrack. It's like Bjork is saying "Watch the damn movie!" |
