I'll start off by saying, I guess this song (or any song for that matter) can mean different things to different people. But I see that a lot of people seem to be over-analyzing this one. If I remember correctly, the band wrote this song about a monster, If you go to the video section on Eisley's website and go to the making of telescope eyes, you can get Stacy's explaination.
