Well, I think it could be deeper, but it seems to be about watching time passing before a certain time, which the singer seems to be looking forward to. As there's the two of them singing, maybe they're looking forward to seeing each other? Or perhaps they're dreading having to talk about something. |

The second verse to me sounds like the runner starts fighting back - the rosy wrist bands could be bruises from restraining them, and the blood line - encrusted small finds, maybe the blood is like a trophy, or payback or something. I'm not sure, that's my guess at those two lines. |

When I first listened to the album, it didn't stand out and then I listened proerly and realised that it's actually a really political song, but it's almost hidden in the melodies and vocals. I think it's good for them to do a political song, it adds to their range. |

I'm probably so wrong, but up til now I thought it was just a woman saying give me respect, I wear the trousers. But reading it now, could it work with an abusive husband, that she's possibly leaving? "Sock it to me" makes me think of that at least.

This may be the most obvious meaning, but isn't it about a small-town girl who makes it big?
Gabrielle, who in the first line catches the bus and then has a pretty passionate, exciting relationship with him. They have to end it when she does become famous: "she shines on screen" but although he's happy for her, I think he also regrets it a bit "once she was only mine". I think in the chorus he's saying that fame's fickle: everyone may know her name today, but when she's another has-been he'll still remember her and love her.
I'm sure it has a deeper meaning, but I'm a state-the-obvious kind of person. |

I've always thought this song was about how something was really wrong: i.e. the girl was cheating on him, but because it mattered so much it caused everything else to go wrong. He feels like everything's turned upside down and messed up.
Some of the lyrcis are especially clever: instead of saying one thing, like it's snowing in summer, he sings a much longer, more descriptive line. Possibly helps that it rhymes better! ANyway, great song, I love listening to it loud when I'm on my own. |

I think this song is about being young and everything now, but you really need to look ahead and think about your future. But people my age (teenagers) "don't wanna think about it anymore" so "when it's time to go" it'll be too late to try and change things, how you acted or what you did, or whatever. Yes, you're not afraid, do you really care if your soul is saved?
So basically about what it'll be like when we look back before dying and see that all the stuff we avoided thinking about really matters. |

I think it may be about TBS, but also it could work with a post-relationship meaning. The relationship is going downhill fast, but he doesn't want to end it-

or move on"It's kind of comfortable and he doesn't want to change it because it's easier like this, but her hates it this way. So he's like, stop pretending, this is really the end. He's kind of railing against himself but also the other person and is basically just angry at how the whole situation has turned out.

it's like the letters are the only thing that they can share, that he can't be there to see her when she's had a bad day-he's saying that she knows that he wants to be there to look after her and make her feel better, but he can't. So he just can say that he misses her. Then there's the kind of worry of whether they feel the same, and whether they miss you as much as you do. When you can't see someone you just can't tell. This song reminds me so much of my boyfriend, who lives miles away. It's really hard so we say 'listen to this...' and it's easier than trying to explain how we feel. anyway, hope that makes sense! |
