John Mayer – The Age of Worry Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I can see this song as a commencement speech for graduating college students. I have always listened to the song in the context of "know your fight is not within". In these terms it's the understanding of where your problem truly lies. There will be times where you will be in such a despair, you will think you have lost yourself. But as John says, it's not necessarily that you are the problem, but the timing of everything. You will be burned and burn others as life progresses. You can dream, however make sure you live your life too and not have your goals and fantasies just be in your head. I love the lines "give your heart then change your mind, you're allowed to do it", especially the emphasis in his punching of the words. We shouldn't feel guilty for growing towards different directions from our partners. I think of two things when I hear this line. first, it's his acceptance of his parents divorce. Of course he is devastated that they have split up, but he understands that people change and as they change so do their needs/ values. He is acting very mature. Second, I think of this song as a continuation of the main ideology of "Wheel". Life goes in full circle and this age of worry will pass too. We just keep on moving along in life and this moment of worry is just that; a moment. We will get past this. |
Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i may be wrong but when she sings "Hide and seek/Trains and sewing machines/All those years/They were here first" it reminds me of America taking over the native american's land and how the industrial revolution made our nation begin to have this imperilist mind set. In doing so, we destroyed their culture and our excuse was "that it's all for the best" |

I also have the dl where at the end he wants to make up a song. The dl that i have is definately him. I am a music major and so I have to be able to easily distinguish between singers and all of those kind of things. To me, the song is how he wants to juggle between being able to do what he loves (playing music on tour) and also being able to love a girl. Thats what i get from, "if melody is my destiny then what's left of me I'll give to you". - pretty much how playing music is what he was meant to do and even though he has so much love and passion for music, he has love also to give to the girl. "if next to me is all that you need to be would you settle for fantasy if its the best you could do"- this is when he is on tour and he cannot see her, he is asking her if he is not able to be there, can she settle for using her imagination that he was if its the only thing possible at the time. "can postcard say what I see in your eyes"- again he is on tour or away from her and its pretty much saying can a postcard say how much he feels for her and that being enough for her. "will I wake up one morning and see your face and streaks on the window that the rainstorm makes could you bear all the weight and the strength that it takes could I ever break away"- I think this means that when he is able to actually be with her in person will he have enough strength to leave her to go back on tour or will she have strength' "Can i have my cake, can i have you too" - this is pretty self- explanatory, can he play music and have love also. I know in some quotes that he makes i find this similarity that he wants to be able to be in love but its so hard for him since he is always away. |
