Sparks The Rescue – We Love Like Vampires Lyrics 13 years ago
Vampires represent taking more from a relationship giving. Traditionally, vampires demonstrate "love" by killing the object of their affection in a moment of passion. They are having a ton of fun together, and definitely passion/sex, but the relationship is doomed to burn out.

(All this is about pre-Twilight vampires that ruined the whole genre by completely ignoring classic characteristics. But I digress...)

Paramore – Playing God Lyrics 14 years ago
I initially thought of the inverse of this actually, though I don't think she is advocating any position. I looked up the lyrics to see if they seemed to advocate agnosticism, since she is saying she had changed (the lyrics to "Turn It Off") and was a Christian when the band started and emerged from the Bible Belt. Now she has toured the world and performed with many outspoken atheists/agnostics, refer to Set Your Goals "Old Book Misread," which I was immediately reminded of by these lyrics. She's seen that an outlook advocating having definite answers to the biggest mysteries of the universe is quite silly. (Jesus, son of God who created the world 1000 years ago, etc.) I don't think she is turning away from religion as much as asking others not to accept an outlook that claim they have the only definite answer.

It may have nothing to do with religion at all, though given the lyrics and theme on this album, there seems to be a spiritual vibe going on...

Two Tongues – Tremors Lyrics 14 years ago
My point has nothing to do with who the song was written for as much as the presentation. It is just odd to hear two males singing duets with sexual undertones, presented like they are singing to each other. It's not like anyone was saying they were gay, no more than Heath Ledger was for Brokeback Mountain.

I don't care if they are gay, bi, straight, or asexual. It was just an unexpected (doubtfully unintended) undertone throughout the album. I can't imagine Chris or Max getting upset for being called gay; that is the truly ignorant and painfully immature position.

Set Your Goals – Look Closer Lyrics 14 years ago
I can't believe no one has commented on this song yet...

This song is a major thought piece after you digest the song and think about it as you go through the day.

"telling you to eat what could be soylent green" I had eaten Taco Bell earlier that day, and while I don't think it is anything like soylent green, I didn't really know what I was eating. Even if it was grade A beef, with all of the steriods injected into the meat and bioengineering of the food farm animals eat, I'm not sure that I'm comforted.

"Get schooled, get married, get it on. Start a family. Hurry, move along." Why is everyone so eager to give away their freedom? Marriage & children should be delayed until one is mature enough to handle the outcomes of the decision. At 23, I'm oblivious to the upside of having a kid & career/life at my age, but everyone around me seems to be doing it.

I think the point is a comment on people's willingness to comply & obey, or at least be a complicit bystander, more than it is a political statement.

If you like the lyrics to this song, check out Third Eye Blind "Non Dairy Creamer."

Saosin – It's Far Better to Learn Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it has a general topic that causes the individual to reflect their own situations into the song. Each of our bodies was a gift, whether from God or Nature, and we have to make the choices of what we will do with it.

If someone was going through a lot of questions about drugs in their life or someone they cared for, it could easily be taken that way. Or if someone was starting to date casually after a breakup, the sexual problems that come up could come through to that listener. The God idea makes sense as well. This song is good just for this ability to be so meaningful to so many different people without being generic.

I think that the line, "What's more important? Saving yourself or letting me in?" Is way to good to put in the arsenal of teenage boys haha. If I would have thought of something like that in high school I definitely would have used it haha. Anyway great song.

Rihanna – Umbrella Lyrics 17 years ago
Whether or not she wrote the song is irrelevant. It's pop music. Hardly anyone writes their own music if its on pop-radio, even some of my and your favorite bands I'm sure. Labels send in extra songwriters to the studio all the time to "assist" the bands. Producers also are huge in the songwriting process.

Anyway... This is a really catchy song, props to whomever did write it :). The "Umbrella" metaphor is very clever, and the vocals match perfectly.

When this first came up in shuffle mode in iTunes, I immediately recognized it as Cassino even though it was only the second or third time I'd heard it.

Fountains of Wayne – Hey Julie Lyrics 17 years ago
Heard it in Scrubs... one of the catchiest frickin' (Scrubs humor) songs I've ever heard. Scrubs has exposed me to so many great bands I'd never heard of or inappropriately dismissed (Fountains of Wayne & The Fray both come to mind).

The pedophile theory is stupid, even if it is about a child the song isn't sexual. It's about someone who always brightens your day. Loving someone doesn't mean you are "in love" or that it is a sexual relationship. This song could be perfectly platonic or romantic depending on the relationship you apply it to - that's called good songwriting.

Dustin Kensrue – I Knew You Before Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about "the scene."

The little girl is the underground punk scene that has evolved from an independent music to a major label tool controlled by MTV. Its pretty clear he is disgusted by the changes. The scene is no longer a respected indie/alternative music, but a money machine.

As someone who has loved this scene of music for a long time, and have a hard time finding many new artists to respect like I had in the past. When fans stopped finding the best new bands by local concerts / word of mouth/ and online communities, and started looking for new "punk" bands on MTV, it was clear the genre had collectively sold-out.

I love this song, and the end is a great insight to Dustin's thoughts on the music industry.

"And all I can say is I knew you before
You were beautiful back then
You could be beautiful again..."

Billy Talent – Red Flag Lyrics 17 years ago
Well mostly based on the title and the repeated line "The Red Flag waving never meant the same/ The kids of tommorow don't need today" I'd say that the song is referencing the consistent misrepresentation and misconceptions of the communist ideal. The Red Flag is a symbol of communism, based on the blood of the workers as someone has said earlier, but corrupt political organizations have masked themselves under communist systems. The "kids" aren't necessarily literal, but rather the idealists who still believe in very liberal forms of government and the ideals of communism. It "never meant the same" because the corruption has become what people believe communism to be, rather than the ideals.

The next part is just a guess, but the song reminds me of the protests in Tiananmen Square in 1989. I realize most of the band's audience was either an infant or not yet born yet when the events happened, but those events pretty much remained the image of modern communism since Reagan and free market economics were literally tearing down communism in the rest of the world.

Snow Patrol – Hands Open Lyrics 18 years ago
How does the writer have "no right" to mention Sufjan. Just because it will make more people like him, and thus he'll lose indie cred, and you won't be able to drop his name to try to impress people. "Chicago" is an amazing song, and Sufjan is a great writer. It is highly possible that "Chicago" had such an impact on him, or the situation that Snow Patrol felt like they had to include it. In a situation like the song describes the music playing has a huge impact on the actions of the characters in the story. Hearing a peticular song at the right moment can inspire someone to act in ways the normally might not. I think in this story, as I described in my first post, this is the moment the object of his affection hears the song and it leads her to going along with him, where she had been fighting the feelings before. These lines are the central turning point in the story and in the song, where the woman can go either way, since the ending is so ambiguous. So in the story at this moment is the climax of the plot. How specific he is with the song name and artist makes the song so much more personal than if he had written, "Put some music on, we'll play your favorite song/ It bursts to life in your sweet smile..." They are still well written lyrics, but lacks the sense of a first person narrative the rest of the song contains. When I am listening I feel like am actually seeing the story progress, and without these personal touches, it seems very fabricated.

Snow Patrol – Hands Open Lyrics 18 years ago
Chicago is the name of the Sufjan Stevens song he was talking about...

For the sake of the description of the moment, I believe he intentionally sacrificed grammer. If my theory above is right, then he is using a 3:17 song to describe a 30-60 sec moment of passion. So things are out of order, and somewhat rushed. It reminds me of an internal conversation. When you think to yourself, I doubt you use proper grammar, and at least for me everything is kind of a continuous thought, rather than sentence-paragraph or line-verse form. So he is singing exactly as the thoughts of the moment pop into his head.

"Put Sufjan Stevens on, and we'll play your favorite song,
Chicago bursts to life in your sweet smile remembers you
My hands open and my eyes open, I just keep hoping that your heart opens."
-- After "life in your sweet smile" everything (including the chorus) is kind of a jumble of thoughts. When I hear that line I actually hear it as "Chicago bursts to life in your sweet smile/ remembers you, my hands open, my eyes open/ i just keep hoping, your heart opens" It makes a bit more sense this way, yet it still is not 100% clear. I really believe based on what I talked about earlier this was intentional to add to the effect.

Snow Patrol – Hands Open Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm pretty much amazed by this whole song... it nears perfection for me, it’s got great lyrics, emotional vocals that perfectly match the mood of the song, catchy guitar. As far as a meaning, it’s not masked at all, yet that doesn't take away from how well the lyrics tell the story. I'm going to look at the lyrics out of order, because they make more sense to me that way...

I'm imagining a first kiss type moment- the narrator alone with his love (possibly someone who that "shouldn't be"), and this is how he wants the next moments to go... "my hands open, and my eyes open, I just keep hoping your heart opens" = leaning in for the kiss. "Gotta be more than hope that its right” = the effort it took to make the move. "Collapse into me tired with joy" = she goes with the moment and he succeeds.

"It’s hard to argue when. You won't stop making sense
My tongue still misbehaves digging my own grave"
-- A great intro and when you hear this you know you're in for great descriptive lyrics the whole way through
-- Reinforces the love that "shouldn't be" ... She is arguing with him (possibly already with a boyfriend), he knows she is right but his love still resists it

"Why would I sabotage the best thing that I have
Well it makes it easier, exactly what I want"
-- He is worried that this will ruin a good friendship, since he shouldn't be able to be with her, even though his mind knows it is wrong, his heart knows it is right... the thought of not being open with his feelings is worse than losing her as a friend.

"Put Sufjan Stevens on, and we'll play your favorite song
Chicago bursts to life in your sweet smile remembers you"
-- The way he describes her reaction to the song and the moment blows me away...

I've never seen a song perfectly sum up that moment as well as this with its tempo, lyrics, and vocal delivery. Had the vocals been done differently, the words could seem like cheesy pop or worse if he had overdone them the song would be written off as an "emo" song... but instead Snow Patrol delivers near perfection for me and what I look for in my music.

Great Lyrics, Catchy Music, Great Vocals = A Great Single

Cassino – American Low Lyrics 18 years ago
As for the meaning of the song...

Oh this hurricane’s blowing us thin
>The hurricane is a metaphor for the pressure they are under
This never ending swirl of American sin
>After they broke up with Northstar, they continued to make music >without a label, so the "American sin" is their continuing attempt to >follow their dream, even though they have no income
Where I strayed on my knees to a bottomless cage
>"strayed on my knees" = they are in a weak position, inside the "bottomless cage"= music industry/ America's bottom class
Where they throw dollar bills and hope to be saved
>Think of the biblical parable of the poor woman who gave her last >coin, while the rich man gave a dollar when he could afford much >more. Nick is reminding us that we need to give whatever we can >to help those in need, not just what we have left after we buy >our luxury items.
The poshest scarf on the warmest day…
>Talking about the rich parading wealth. The scarf is only for >show, since it would be completely unnecessary
Its enough to make you give up ….she says...
I know I know I know …it shows
>The verse ends with the narrator in complete despair.

As we sleep in this broken Cadillac
> Homeless
We watch the world leave it doesn’t look back
> Looking out for help, but getting none
I gotta say that…when my heart attacks
Don’t return it…it will fire right back...
> Another expression of hopelessness, if he breaks down don't
> help him now, he's only going to do it again.
So let’s just lie here as they paint us black…
> Giving up while society writes them off, "paints them black" is
> referring to Northstar fading away

Oh this earthquake is shaking our hands
> The pressure makes it harder for him to make music that will help
> them reach their goal.
Free at the wrists just as we started a dance
> The only "hopeful" line of the song, it seems he has been
> released from his obligation, and sees a possibility things could
> get better.
The hardest thing next to diamond rings
Is the coats we have to wear just to make ends meet
> "the coats"= whatever people are forced to do to make money,
> (shitty job, deal drugs, prostitution)
I got this year and fifty more to beat…
> He's in his mid 20's, so 50 more = mid 70's, avg. life expectancy
Its enough to make you give up….she says…
I know I know I know….so let go…

The nervous ticks only the holy get
> The truly holy have their own struggle
The country treats as the cities get sick
> The wealthy are celebrating, while the poor are starving
The lunatics and the Harlem tricks
> Implying these are effects of poverty, insanity, and illegal activity
The country treats as we all get sick…

Cassino – American Low Lyrics 18 years ago
Stevenatfe, the song was written and released online before the hurricane hit the gulf. The lyrics were posted on songmeanings by August 27th and Katrina hit land on August 25th in Florida, but didn't compare to the impact that it would make in New Orleans, on August 29th. I doubt that there was even time for Cassino to write, record, and post the song online even just based on the events in Florida, & have someone find out about them & post their lyrics in 2 days. I guess the the first line could have been inspired by the news reports of the large upcoming storm, but I think it was just an unfortunate coincidence. However, what you said has a lot of truth and it is very odd how similar the lyrics are to the situation in NO. I don't believe it to be an attack on "America" however, but rather a cultural comment about Western Culture. If you follow the band much they have mentioned that they are pretty broke themselves, and I definetly think this song is about their own poverty (especially if you listen to it with "Gin War" and "Platona").

these first three songs show so much friggin potential... I'm tempted to say I like these first three better than any three from Northstar, and I loved Northstar. Hopefully they will be able to break through- this is amazing stuff.

The song seems to be about the loss of control in day to day life in America, but everything Nick writes is very cryptic so I'd guarantee there is a specific reason for each phrase.

Northstar – Pollyanna Lyrics 18 years ago
I never understood this song's meaning until last week I was in the car with someone who had never heard it before. Halfway through the song he says out of nowhere "this song is about being cheated on."

It really matches up really well, but depending on the way you are trying to hear it each time can change whether it seems he cheated or she did, and who is the protagonist.

So this is how it ends
- introducing his story, kinda like saying "this is how it went down"
Toxic AND DELIBERATE (indeliberance is not a word)
- she cheated on him, intending it to hurt him
She's blood red at the neck
- she's emotional as she tells him (blushing from regret, or anger, w/e)
Boiling off finger prints
- tryin to erase evidence of her guilt
This hospital love
- dying love, or maybe he sees it as sick being healed
is making death seem elegant
- giving up is easier than fighting to keep her
just don't breathe and we'll stop time
- asking her to stay with him and keep things the same

she said/ i've got this delicate lisp/ that speaks in tongues and upper-lips
- metaphor describing how she cheated (?)
your silhouettes my favorite/ im not letting go of it/im not letting go of it
- it seems here like she cheated and is keeping him with the other man "on the side"

shes got a leash that grips/ my teeth that cleans the air/ i breathe/ its wrapped around this city
- basically he's saying she's everywhere with him in his thoughts, even when theyre apart hes thinking of her and she is controlling him

you look so lovely running through my fingers/ running through my fingers/ where everything's always felt right...
- she's slipping away, but he hasn't lost any of his feelings for her

she glides off the bed
- he seems to be watching her as she cheats in this verse and giving us a play-by-play
with unflinching relevance
- it doesn't change how important she is to him
so completely motionless
- describing himself, like he's shocked
you're so heavy, you're so warm
- heavy= weighing him down emotionally, warm= he's still fond of her
just a pillow ive used/ a thousand times before
- sex with her
wrapped in velvet
- condom
and filled with thorns
- the damages to their relationship they're ignoring

ive got this weakening grip
- losing her...
around her arm, around her hips/ her silhouettes my favorite/ im not letting go of it/ im not letting go of it
- she's leaving but he is unwilling to accept it

I will chase it, grab it, stake it
- do anything to catch her
Rub until she fakes it
- sex again
We all blew faster
- emotions ran higher
An oncoming disaster/ I will let this hurt
- he realizes what is going on, and lets it end

most of the lines have similar meanings, and the he cheated vs. she cheated question depends on when you place lines like " just dont breathe and we'll stop time/ SHE SAID/ i've got this delicate lisp." If "she said" follows "just don't breathe and we'll stop time" in the story, he cheated. If "she said" precedes "i've got this delicate lisp" then she cheated...

Third Eye Blind – Narcolepsy Lyrics 19 years ago
Like just about everyone else, I believe that this is a metaphor for alcoholism.

"I'm on a train, but there's no one at the helm"
-He's living his life, but he feels there is no direction, or that he can't change his course
"And there's a demon in my brain that starts to overwhelm"
- His addiction pressuring him to take a drink
"Lay me down, but I get no release"
- He takes the drink, but no relief

"I try to keep awake"
- He tries to fight the addiction
"I try to swim beneath"
- Then his addiction convinces he can do a little, like he could just go into the shallow end
"I try to keep awake"
- He realizes he shouldn't have a drink
"But I, I can feel this narcolepsy slide"
- He fails from keeping from drinking
"Into another nightmare"
- He's back down to the same low point he reaches every time he drinks

"And there's a demon in my head who starts to play/ A nightmare tape loop of what went wrong yesterday"
- Drinking makes him relive his worst memories and regrets
"And I hold my breath 'till it's more than I can take"
- Since the analogy is to being underwater, he's fighting breathing in the water-- trying to suppress his memories
"And I close my eyes and dream that I'm awake"
- While fighting his memories, he's lost track of what is real and what is not

"I read dead Russian authors volumes at a time"
- Reminding himself of his positive characteristics for encouragement
"I write everything down except what's on my mind"
- but then immediately discounts them as unimportant
"Cause my greatest fear is the sucking sound/ And then I know that I'll never get back out"
- He associates the suction sound of a drink with one of a drain he can't escape
"And there's a bone in my hand that connects to a drink"
- He speaks of his arm as if it is separate from him, another metaphor for loss of control
"In a crowded room where the glasses clink"
-pretty literal, he's in a bar...
"And I'll buy you a beer and we'll drink it deep"
- He is asking for company
"Because that keeps me from falling asleep"
- He hopes then he can keep control

"How'd you like to be alone and drowning"
- Now he is pleading to the people around him to help him

"(keep awake)"
- His final fight in the song, hes commanding his body not to drink

"And I can feel this narcolepsy slide"
- But, yet again he fails

It's a pretty depressing, desperate song.

Marcy Playground – Sex And Candy Lyrics 19 years ago
I love the comment earlier from mswer that drew's interpretation was wrong... interpretations CAN"T BE WRONG. They are the perception of the song's meaning, so every individual will have a different interpretation in the same way people will have different reactions and opinions on any piece of art. I'm not saying opinions can't be wrong, they can, but only when they go against fact (i.e. “My opinion is that 1+1=3”).

The people who repeated claims that the child molester theory is immature and sick are really the ones themselves who are immature. Drew doesn't defend child molesters or condone them, just points out that is a possible meaning to the song- which it is. Child molesters are a sick part of life, and the inability to admit they exist shows real immaturity, and failure to deal with the problem- you can't solve a problem if you don't admit it's there...

As for my interpretation, once I heard the idea this song was about molestation a few years after it came out, I haven't been able to enjoy it like I did before. To me it seems to make much more sense from the viewpoint of an outsider to the crime. Some lines sound like the viewpoint of a child ('Who's that casting/ devious stares/ In my direction/ Mama this surely/ is a dream"), and others from that of the molester (“Hangin' round downtown by/ myself/ And I had so much time/ To sit and think/ about myself/ And then there she was/ Like double cherry pie"), cherry of course is obvious slang for a girl's virginity.

Once again to defend drew, you are allowed to disagree with him, but don't condemn him for his perception. He never once defended child molesters, and his post seemed like he was disturbed by the lyrics. Sorry about the rant, but something needed to be said.

Finch – Insomniatic Meat Lyrics 19 years ago
The beginning where Nate sings "Oh my God I think I'm Blind" completely sets the tempo for the song, and this song does the same thing for the rest of the album. The themes of violence and a feeling that Nate is in a dream are throughout the cd.

Say Hello to Sunshine is extremely different from What it is to Burn, and from everything else coming out today. Finch's sound on WiitB was like a bridge between Deftones metal GlassJaw type hardcore, and pure pop punk. On SHtS, Finch sounds like an early 90's heavy metal band trying to be a 2005 hardcore band. I don't mean that to sound negative, this album is incredibly creative and experimental. With SHtS, Finch has taken a step towards becoming one of the great rock bands of this generation, but may be losing many of its punk fans in the process.

Thrice – The Artist in the Ambulance Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm pretty sure that this song is about intervening in someones life to save them, most likely from a drug problem. The crash and paramedic are only metaphors. The song to me sounds like the singer is telling a story of being helped through an addiction at first, then the end seems to switch roles.

The first verse is about the crash, in my theory an overdose, and that someone is there to save him.
"my world goes black before i feel an angel lift me up"

The second verse is the addicts relfection on his choices, how his live has been saved, and how much he owes to "the paramediic"

This is where the bridge is in the song, and the role reversal takes place, whether it is one person with two stories, or one story told from both sides.

In the third verse, either the story has restarted with the singer now singing the role of "the paramedic" or now the addict from the first two verses has reversed his life and sees problems like his own in a friend. His dialog and advice with the friend is the beginning of the verse. "look around and you'll see that at times it feels like no one really cares/ it gets me down but i'm still gonna try to do what's right."

Then the second part of the verse is what the narrator is saying to himself. "i know that there's/ a difference between sleight of hand, and giving everything you have."The narrator realizes that he won't be able to save this person by simply talking, but that he must take action if there is save this person. This is an incredibly emotional part of the song. When I listen to it, and put myself in the role of saying these things, I feel like this is exactly what it's like when you know you have to help someone when they can't help themself, especially in the line "there's a line drawn in the sand, i'm working up the will to cross it"and then "I hope I will never let you down..."

Then there is another crash, but the way he sings, it sounds that this time he isn't involved in the wreck, but there to help the victim when it happens. "they've given me a second chance, the artist in the ambulance/ can we pick you off the ground, more than flashing lights and sound"

This is the meaning that makes the most sense to me, but this song is intrepretable in a wide variety of ways.No matter how you see the song as a metaphor, the lyrics are amazing. They can be translated to so many situations without becoming generic and vague... that is incredible songwriting.

Finch – Brother Bleed Brother (Album Version) Lyrics 19 years ago
one more thing i just noticed on the religion theme-

"What have you done, my son, with your desire?" - Desire represents Humanity's Original Sin, and Humankind is represented as the son of god

"bleed brother bleed" - Jesus, as the son of God, is the brother of Humanity, and he had to pay the price for the son's sins on the cross

"I die for you and I die" saying he dies twice, once as Jesus and once as God, but in the same line as Jesus and God are seperate but the same enitity as 2 parts of the Holy Trinity.

i've never noticed any other Finch song's with Christian themes before, so this probably isn't the real exlpanation, but it fits for me.

CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE NEW CD-- if the rest of the album is like this Finch will take over modern rock radio in 2005

now to the song... i hate to use religous conotations, because i think people usually add them in where they dont apply, but i am curious about this song

"And I die for you and I die" - Jesus' death on the cross

i also see a conection with betrayal (judas)... i believe that it is more likely that it is just a song generally about being betrayed by a good friend- someone close enough to be called a brother

Linkin Park – Lying from You/Dirt Off Your Shoulder Lyrics 19 years ago
i'm pretty sure going from an innovative and creative band like they were when they came out (no one had mixed hip-hop & rock as well as they did on HT) to a band that mom, dad, lil sis, and the popular kids can like is another way of saying they sold out. They changed the way they made music in order to please more fans, and make more money...

Northstar – The Pornographer's Daughter Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about a relationship with a drug- but the song is written as though the addiction is a person he is dating

In the first verse, he fears the girl (the habit) is going to end their relationship (kill him), but isn't ready to stop using it...
I can't leave with words like these
-he thinks she is about to break up with him
They'll break the bones that hold up my sleeves
-he couldn’t take losing her
I've got to tie her so high her breath freezes
before she speaks,
-he goes into a fantasy, and in the fantasy if she can't talk she can't end the relationship
but this bus just won't go far enough
So I'll strap my face to a homemade bomb and blow the bus stop through the parking lot
-when (in his fantasy) he can't stop her from telling him its over , so he is willing to kill her and himself
We'll celebrate like we were free
- He believes she doesn’t really want to break it off, so this would set them free

In the second verse, he gets high and remembers when he first started using, but writes this occasion like it was a first date...
I know a place where we can both get laced
- He’s inviting her on a date to get high
Take some time to learn about your face
- learning more details, like the beginning of any relationship
about bawling and bell curves
- possibly referencing things that happened during the relationship, bawling= remembering a sad event, bell curves= either referencing a test or thinking about his placement on the human curve (as ROCKSTAR NAILBOMB! mentioned)
about strength from inhalers
-another reference to getting high
and I'll take the fifth and you can just sit
- either fifth of alcohol, or the fifth amendment- he will sit quietly
and I'll watch from a distance while you open it
-either literally open the alcohol, or that she is getting him to open up
This is how I will keep her… in pieces… she's a keeper
- he is now finished with the flashback, and is stating that is how he remembers the relationship- in pieces that he only sees the good parts

And I'll be holding my breath with the best...
-holding his breath to make the high more intense/last longer
my breath with the best intentions
-he is getting high to forget the pain of the break up

This is not for me, your perfume struggles perfectly
it wraps around and screams at me,
- describing what it feels like to inhale
"My hero tastes like plastic, he's elastic and now he's dead"
- the inhalant doesn't taste like anything, elastic=balloon(like a whippit), & it has run out

since he just got high again, the relationship is fine...
My straight faced grin is the first to leave hand in hand -he is still involved with her & he is content
with the queen of tragedy
-she is what is causing his problems
Why do I hurt just on purpose?
- but he knows he chooses the pain from the drug
I guess I lack a purpose...
-depression led to the addiction
So smile like a child sitting in the sea
-the innocence of the child
forget about what's in the water
-but the child is ignorant to the danger around it
and just focus in on me I'll be the phantom of the opera
-he is hurting but the addiction masks his pain
I'll be the lantern you blow out first...
-the drug is going to kill him

And I'll be the reason you'll leave this city... (This is not for me)
-this comes at the end of the song because he has resolved to quit

Wow… a lot of typing- hope it was helpful, I’m pretty sure this is right- best song on the CD, wonder if it will become a single because of the line about the suicide bomb on the bus…

Linkin Park – Lying from You/Dirt Off Your Shoulder Lyrics 19 years ago
just because i can't make a cd as "good" as this, doesnt mean that this is worth anything... saying you couldn't do any better isn't a valid argument when talking about music, because that's pretty obvious. my point isnt that i could do better, only that alot of other musicians out there can and linkin park can. "hybrid theory" was a very good cd, but ever since then they have gone constantly down hill.

Fahrenheit 451 has many scenes depicting a tv "family" that the general population feels compelled to watch daily... I wonder if Brandon was thinking of it at all when he wrote this song?

is anyone else amazed at the number of people who thought the song referenced the year 1984 rather than the book? wow, are you people fucking serious?!?

allusions to 1984 have gotten very old, and it seems like anytime something major in politics happens, people cry about how its just like 1984. 1984 is a classic but over used. if you were interested in reading something along those lines,i would recommend reading Orwell's "Animal Farm" or Ray Bradbury's "Farenheit 451." From Bradbury's work and commentaries written on the book many years later, you can see things he feared and wrote in the book that have already become reality.

Chevelle – Send The Pain Below Lyrics 19 years ago
"Send The Pain Below" a complete deftones ripoff, listen to "be quiet and drive" and then "send the pain below" and you can't deny it. I loved "Wonder What's Next" as a complete album, but this is the weakest track. It bugs me alot how much this song sounds like BQAD, because since i realized the similarities I've liked chevelle a lot less.

i'm sure after i say all this i'll be attacked by chevelle fans (who listen to what they are told to by MTV and have no clue on the influence of Deftones from Metal to Hardcore) telling me that i'm unintelligent and can go eat a bowl of dick or w/e that ignorant ass said earlier- seriously dude if you want to tell someone off you can't do it just by yelling curses at them, it's juvenille and only shows your limited vocabulary.

Senses Fail – Angela Baker and my Obsession With Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
this song is about epiphanies he's made in his life. the first verse is dealing with girls, and realizing that he doesnt need the perfect girl physically, but that he needs someone to make him as happy as he was before "bliss of ignorance." the second is about him cutting, and enjoying it "i found god" and his drug habit 'as i swalllow pills happiness".
