Metallica – Of Wolf And Man Lyrics 19 years ago
It's not wrong, but I don't think it's good. Songs are basically poetry with different kinds of music playing along. Who would want to read poetry that cannot be interpreted in different ways, that instead simply tells you a few rhyming words? Perhaps the music will be good, but the lyrics will be empty to many listeners.

Metallica – For Whom The Bell Tolls Lyrics 19 years ago
Nobody gave Poland to Hitler, Liebherk, the invasion of Poland is what set triggered World War II. Being a pacifist is not shameful, and most war is definitely pointless. Hitler was a never-before-seen case in history, and none of the world knew how far his goals stretched. Don't go saying that being peaceful is how lunatics like Hitler become so powerful.

Anyway, I read the book and the poem, and I do think that this song focuses on them, but I also think it goes a little further. The last few lines don't happen in the book. I think those lines comment on the uselessness of most war, something that a soldier will only realize during his dying breath.

Metallica – The God That Failed Lyrics 19 years ago
I've seen it said a lot that this song is about James's mother and her death, but I agree with Shaz.

It seems possible that this may also be about Communism. Some time after WWII a group of writers wrote a book titles "The God That Failed," which spoke of their loss of faith in communism as a form of government. Some of Metallica's songs do touch on political nerves, and also, the Soviet Union collapsed only two years before the release of this album. Still, though, some of the lyrics don't seem to make much sense with this interpretation.
