God, I honesly think this song is amazing. I mean, before I even heard the song, I had just stumbled upon the lyrics, and I fell absolutely in love with it. The thing with Ani is that you read her lyrics, and it feels as though she was in your mind, writing down your own thoughts, just more poetically. Anyway, I think everyone else pretty much covered the meaning....I love how she made reference to Adam and Eve, the apple, the snake, and of course, the Garden. It makes the songall that more amazing. |

I saw an interview on MuchMusic where Ben explained what the song was about. One day the rest of the band came to him with music that he thought sounded completely evil, so he tried to write a song that fit with the "evil-ness" of the music. Just the day before he had read a story in the paper about a little boy being molested by a priest, and so that stuck in his mind as one of the most evil things ever... men exploiting their power in the church and a child's faith in god in order to abuse a little child. So if after reading the lyrics and watching the video, you still don't believe it's about a preist molesting a little boy, there's your proof. |

I interpret it as Ani feeling like everyone is judging her, and therefore she has kind of withdrawn into her home.People are critizing her for doing her own thing and having such strong opinions. Bascially, she's telling them to get off her back. The line about a catastrophe waiting on the lawn almost makes me think of a protest or pickett line. Does anyone know if there was a point where Ani was the protested against for something she said? I can see this being likely, as Ani is very open about her opinions and such. |

I have to agree that this song it definatly about Jim Morrison. I can also see how it might be about Jimi Hendrix as well, but I can see more evidence pointing towards Jim Morrison. Like "rebels" pointed out, you can distinctly hear and organ in the song, which the Doors are known for using, and you can definatly hear 'Riders on the Storm" at the end. I assume that the line "thought you only stayed a moment" refers to the fact that Jim died at the fairly young age to 27. I just think that the song is basically saying how much Jim Morrison influenced music, and that although Jim is gone, musicians countinue to be influence by his music. |
