Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics

The mood this song creates alone makes it my favorite Interpol song by far. It took me a while to realize it's brilliance though. I love the part "you come here to me, we’ll collect those lonely parts and set them down...' |

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin – Pangea Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
Pangea is the name for the super-continent that existed millions of years ago where Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia, Antarctica, and probably something else were all connected. I'm pretty sure they drifted apart over time because of plates in the earth shifting, which I think is what is referenced when they say "while underground there's a whirlpool humming." |

M. Ward – Paul's Song Lyrics

ahh, the life of a troubador. this is definitely one of m. ward's best songs. his voice and the pedal steel go together perfectly. |

The Decemberists – O Valencia! Lyrics

I thought immediately of "We Both Go Down Together" too. Both have that Romeo and Juliet story line with different endings. Anyway, great song. |

Ben Folds – Give Judy My Notice Lyrics

i like the songs for silverman version. i think the band (and especially the pedal steel and harmony vocals) only make ben sound better. either way, i love picturing ben actually telling "judy" in real life that he won't be her bitch anymore. |

Ben Folds – Time Lyrics
|
i heard that this song is about suicide. i'm still going with the break-up idea, which is what i originally thought, but i think that idea is an interesting way to look at the song differently. also, i would have to agree that this is one of the best on songs for silverman, but it's impossible to pick a favorite--they're all so good!! |

M. Ward – Flaming Heart Lyrics
|
The bells at the beginning remind me of an ice cream truck driving up the street, so I like to imagine that the narrator could be an ice cream man singing about his love life (or lack thereof). However, as great as that would be, I don't think its exactly what M. Ward had in mind when he wrote it. |

M. Ward – Fuel For Fire Lyrics

this is a good song to fall asleep to. i'm not sure if he says day or death there. i like how his voice is the real centerpiece in this song. beautifuuuuul |

M. Ward – Color of Water Lyrics

Very true, but the third, fourth fifth, etc. are also amazing. I love his falsetto in this song. Not really sure about the meaning though... |

M. Ward – From A Pirate Radio Sermon, 1989 Lyrics

I'm not really sure on the meaning, but this song is so good. I love the guitar, and I don't know why, but I really love the part when he says "headlight through the rain." |

Guster – Manifest Destiny/Sorority Tears Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
incase anyone wasn't aware, "manifest destiny" is kind of like the standard historical term for 1840's territorial expansion into the american west. it's like the way the people felt that americans had an obligation to expand west i think. |

Ben Folds – There's Always Someone Cooler Than You Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
It's a cool sing a long and the message is pretty funny, but then that part comes in:
"And you know that I won't hesitate
Cuz every moment life is slipping away
It's okay"
...and it's actually kind of sad :-\ |

Matt Costa – Sweet Rose Lyrics
|
I'm actually starting to like Matt Costa as much as Jack Johnson. I like the lines:
"I want you to know that nothing's quite as bad as it seems when you're so sad"
...and, "I want you to know that nothing stays the same, but you and I, we will remain." Cute. |

Yeah, just a nice, happy song. I really love that part in the middle (after the first two stanzas) when he plays that little acoustic guitar solo. I love the catchy melody. |

Matt Costa – Yellow Taxi Lyrics

This is one of the best on Songs We Sing. The meaning is pretty obvious. He wants someone to talk to. |

Talib Kweli – Too Late Lyrics

The beat on this song is just sick. Plus, Kwe drops some lyrics that are more relevant today than when this came out. |

Handsome Boy Modeling School – Breakdown Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Yup, "stopping to take the time to smell the roses" pretty much sums it up. I heard this before I heard the acoustic version on In Between Dreams, and I can't say I like one better than the other, but when I discovered this one on White People it blew my mind. Just the layers in the song, and the whistling and hip hop drums... fucking great. |

Moby – Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? Lyrics

|
great song. i agree mboruza, it's anthemic.
until seeing this page i always thought "these open doors" was "feel so alone." i realize that's wrong, but i still think it kinda sounds like that. anyway, this song is moving. |

Ben Folds – Annie Waits Lyrics
|
This is like the perfect pop song. The meaning is pretty obvious and I agree that the "and he waits" could be intentional. Anyway, great opener to a fantastic album...and "The Ascent of Stan" is an awesome song. |

Jens Lekman – You Are the Light (By Which I Travel Into This and That) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
This is a greaaaat song. The lyrics are hilarious, and with the horns and the claps and everything it's just too perfect. It's so cheesy and kind of familiar-sounding, but I just love it. I also love his slight Swedish accent. Next time I make a mix cd for one of my friends, this is sure to be on there. |

This song is ridiculously good. I love to sing along to it, and it gets stuck in my head all the time. I can never pick a favorite off the album, but this is one of the best.
M. Ward is a genius. |

Jens Lekman – Maple Leaves Lyrics

Awesome song. I love the strings. And the drums, and his voice, and everything else too. Does anyone who has the album know why there are 2 different versions of this song? (EP version + 7" version.) They're basically the same. I think I like the EP version better, but anyway... Jens Lekman rocks. |

Jens Lekman – Pocketful of Money Lyrics

Yes! I love the ending. This is probably my favorite on Oh You're So Silent Jens. Does anyone happen to know where that sample came from? Jens Lekman is great though. If only more people (in the states at least) actually knew who he was. |

Bloc Party – Little Thoughts Lyrics
|
The first few times I listened through I basically ignored this song. Then I kept randomly getting the "I'll go back..." part stuck in my head. I couldn't figure out what it was from, or even that it was a Bloc Party song. I ended up searching for "i'll go back if you ask me lyrics" on Google and went back and listened to it. Now it's one of my favorites on Silent Alarm. |
