To me this song is about a girl reminiscing about a past special relationship that didn't work out. She was in times lost, in times walking the line, and while doing so she tripped in the ups and downs of it. And probably because she was afraid of the future she made a mess of all things.
Her mistakes, that she only realized after a while, haunt her. And she's sorry for what is known and for what still isn't. She's never learned how to be true, which means here - I think - unafraid, selfless. Still, despite all that, she meant everything, from her crazy outbursts to her pure love. And she would go through the good and bad parts all over again.
She has a hard time forgetting even though the pain has subsided. Still longs for what's gone, and wonders if it's mutual. And truly regrets losing of all people, this person.
She's gonna be jealous if this person finds a more stable relationship. And in the end of the song, there's some longing. Maybe, maybe when their wounds are healed, they will be able to be together again. |

I have this particular view of this song. To me I think this girls he's singing about is his first love or someone he loved along his youth, but somehow they didn't stick together for some reason not stated in the song, maybe because she moved or maybe because she was always confused about her feelings, but the thing is he has never quite forgotten her. And now, probably after years, she came to visit him and made him remember everything, making latent feelings come to surface again.
He's afraid of nightfall, probably because she'll leave again. And deep inside his heart, he knows it's too late. She's the one he loves, but at the same time she won't be the one that'll spend the rest of lifetime with him as he realizes walking down the hill. Time just passed. She can be married now...although she still gets to him, what makes him ask: "why are you like this, Are you the same with anyone? Save me from my sickness and tell me, Why do you treat me like this?"

After analysing it better..I got a new conclusion.. he says he still dreams of december and that brings up two theories..1- They got married. 2- they haven't.
But the last line supports the second theory..he can never finish it the classic sentence "and the two shall become one"..so it's more likely they never really got married.
And about what happened..probably the woman left him...I guess she's still alive..coz he says that he wishes she could know how much he loves her by putting her ear up to his heart..which implies that she's still among us.
But it's so beautifully written...so indirect...but so clear at the same time.
