I've just come back from a snowboarding holiday in france and i have to be in school in approximately, err, 8 hours. and you wouldn't believe what an amazing time i had there, and so this song, as its so self explanitory explains alot of how i feel right now as you can probably imagine. have you ever felt that though? even if you haven't been anywhere else you want to be you still feel like you'd rather be anywhere else than where you are at that time. its one of the worst feelings you can have. i suppose this song doesn't really have any sort of deep meaning does it. it's just a perfect song for me. |

Iv just heard a dancey version of this by dj someone or other and it made me really really angry. I'm not going to explain what it means to me cos really and truely it doesn't mean anything to me. it's just a great song,a classically amazing song. but it made me so angry cos it still sounded like them, not that thats the bad bit, honestly i'd rather it sound like the undertones than some over-induced-with-helium sounding woman, but it sounded like them and yet everyone who hears it, who doesn't know who the undertones are, and lets face it, the people who are going to hear that version of teenage kicks are going to be the scals/neds/chavs whatever you call yours (tracksuit/burberry cap/orange make-up,goldchains etc) type of people who 99% of them won't have a clue who the undertones are, so it will be a fantastic song to them without them knowing any of its originality or classic qualitys that we have been basqing in for how long? basically, i'm trying to say, dj whatshisfaces are stealing the best songs of all time to turn them into shit songs. it's such a shame. you know like the way they have listed buildings? well they should have listed songs that nobody can touch or do covers of. |

its a sunshiney song isn't it. i saw the thrills in november and i wasn't too keen but this song is still great. it's the song you should play when you're sundrenched form the beach and you're travelling back to where your staying with your friends and the suns in your eyes and there's a big lazy blue sky and your feet are full of sand. its beautiful. it could mean lots to people, especially for someone whos leaving them for somewhere else but even if it's not it's just really good to listen to. i think it's a half happy song. you know like you have mega happy songs and ones like this one this reminds me of mr tambourine man by the byrds. i can't imagine myself smileing in the beach situation i described before when this is on it's like an inside happy song. and i don't think it'd sound half as good if it wasn't on the beach. oh ill shut up now. |

hmm, i love this its happy in comparison with the rest on this album. i agree with both of you. i like the: 'she's all fucked right up, it's ok man, she's got friends' cos people do tend to think that don't they? if theres a lonely person people worry but if theyre not then its like oh, it's ok, she s got friends. they'll sort it out she cant be that unhappy. but they never know. and the bit: 'someones taught her its ok to be a martyr' and since a martyr is someone who dies for something they feel strongly about then shes obviously someone whos in a critical situation and is going to die for all the fucked up shes gone through. i get bored of speculating lyrics. i just love the SOUND of the song more and certain lyrics apply to me in certain situations so i love certain songs at certain times, and right now it's this one. |

caterwaul means like a screech or some sort of distorted sound. and i love this song cos it's so full of all those distorted sounds and feelings that you can't say or describe in a situation thats full of bitter but sad hatred, but at the same time its lolling and beautiful and makes you feel all the feelings its about. then at the end it builds up to this eerie anger. i first heard it when i was falling asleep and i had this album on repeat, the end bit woke me up and i really felt genuinely frightened. its an amazing song, there aren't many artists who can write songs with that much emotion and send that many mixed messages to you. |

this is fantastic. 'you know that i would love to see you next year', ha. i love this song lots. i have this summer job and i have this love/hate relationship with one of the lads who works there and i hate him but i have this strange attraction to him too, but cos this song is quite ironic and not soppy, it's sharp it's just the way i feel about him it's perfect. and the bit where it says: 'id like to see how things turn out if you apply some pressure' it goes for him cos he's such a 'hey, im a charming gorgeous man' type of lad who can get what he wants and i'd just love to see him have to try and do something instead of flirting his way through it. |

This is amozing. it's uplifting i think. you know what it sounds stupid but its all like symbollic isn't it with references to the sea, but if you've ever been sailing on a proper sailing boat or if your posh a yacht and you're going quite fast and the boats keeling over cos there's enough wind and all the suns reflecting off the water and theres like a chilly spray at you but it's happy then it sounds a bit like this song. i know it sounds like , oh she's a bit silly, jsut cos theyre called something to do with the sea its a sea song, no i know its not but thats what it sounds like to me and it's uplifting. or if you're going really fast on your bike in the sunshine where there's dramatic scenery. do you know what i mean? |

this is a travelling beautiful song. it's when you're dazed and confused and you've just broken up with someone and you don't know why, and you're travelling away from them like, what just happened? in a dazed and confused way. why if everyones so bothered about snow patrol suddenly nowadays aren't they bothered about the really good ones like this one and not the light up song that everyone knows. sorry i have alot of anger with that song.

I hate this song. i hate it solely for the reason that it made them famous. For anyone else out there who knew Snow Patrol before they released this and 'final straw' then you might understand me. People were like 'ooh have you heard that new song that goes light up light up?' and i just think it's a bit of a shame. I'm not saying people can't like them, and who am i? i'm not like god or anything but it just really pisses me off cos now the people who liked them for a long time before the light up light up song can't get tickets to see them anymore and they play in crap big venues where you have to start ordering tickts at a certain time of day to have a chance. It REALLY annoys me. it always goes that way. bands are much much better whn no one likes them and they have to try hard to get people to like them. look at U2. I think they are a bit rubbish now but if you look at their old stuff, like a song called 'bad' it's absolutely amazing. but now they know that they can release any old shit and people will buy it cos it's u2. i just really really hope that doesn't happen with sp. and another thing, now people are talking about that band who did the light up light up song splitting up. but they can all just go and wee on their shoes because they are not. they sacked their bassist, Mark Mclelland who was one of the origional 2 members who met at uni but they are still carrying on. oh god i need to shut up. so anyways. i hatethis song because of that. even though it's like an epic genius amazing song that makes people cry. it really really struck me when i was watching glastonbury on the tele last year and everyone was singing along to them and i was like, stop it, you don't know who snow patrol are. you don't you don't. i know i sound like i have a serious problem but like i said, if you knew who snow patrol were before this song then might understand me. |

you know what? i know i've written a comment already but none of you other people can possibly imagine how beautifully beautiful this song is. it is even more beautiful than the most beautiful song in the world which is, in my opinion, hallelujah, by jeff buckley, not the leonard cohen version. if you haven't heard it and you like snow patrol then you haven't been properly educated. it's like all of the bitter sweet, happy sad feelings i ever felt all let out in this song that shouldn't even be called a song it should be called something more special. i know i sound a bit over the top but seriously, if you think i am then you can't have heard the song properly. or in the right place. Where you hear something really matters. i knew this song was quite pretty when i listened to the album for the first time , which was about 2 years ago but then that summer i bought the album and i listened to it while we were sailing in scotland there was this huge sunset.sounds so soppy and stupid but you know when something simple just brings back an undescribable feeling which nothing else can? well thats what that song does for me. |

this song sums up most conversations doesn't it? most conversations you have are false, what people ask you and what you are obliged to ask them is false and it's total crap. like, say you were in a car with some ordinary person who hadn't done much with their life and there's that tension you get where you have to talk, but about crap cos you don't know them well enough yet to talk about anything intersesting or they just aren't an interseting person to talk to anyway, so you start having false conversations. and it starts off as 'how are you' etc, and if it's someone who doesn't talk back (those people REALLY annoy me) then you have tostart talking about proper crap, like, 'so, err, have you been on holiday recently?' and it builds up to the 'awkward silence'. thing is, i find this situation really interseting because the awkward silence tells you alot about the person who the awkward silence is with. if they continue to be self centred and persistently wait for you to ask them questions for them to bluntly answer to then i don't really think they are worth the effort. or it goes the other way and you get to know people better. I have this theory though where you don't HAVE to talk. it sometimes is worse when people really do start talking about utter shit about themselves or something really really boring to fill in gaps cos then you think, oh, comeon shut up. i think there's a line in a song somewhere, but i use it all the time and it is, 'in between the silence there was conversation. i just think thats the best. and it goes with this song. why should we talk about crap if we don't care? it's because people jugde too easy. if you talk about shit people get bored and annoyed and if you don't then people think you're rude. or is it just me? actually i've made myself out to be a non communicator type now haven't i? i'm actually very good at talking but not about shite. |

The lead singer of the Veils is the most beautiful person i have ever seen in my entire life. i saw them in Liverpoollast May and the whole room was mesmerised by his face. The lead singer, Finn Andrews just stood there and crooned out these amazing songs, this one being the best one. i've never seen anyone like him in my entire life. he was more than a pretty boy model or whatever. he had this porcelain skin and wow about him.

How clever Snow Patrol are to make a 20-worded song make you feel so different after the very first listen. the whole song is so abstract and could apply to anyone at any time about so many things. to me, i think he's asking for confirmaton on his relationship, obviously- 'is this on' but then he starts on about he could take her anywhere but he doesn't know how to get there which could mean that she's too high maintenace for him, possibly? oh, i don't really know but it's a great song anyway. |

This song is so beautiful. I think Snow Patrol are like GODS ON EARTH but in all of their albums i was looking for a song just like this one and i think it's so amazing. It gets me where Gary Lightbody sings 'you've been and gone and took my heart' and you can hear the Irish tinge in his voice. the whole song just makes me feel all lovely and feel so sorry for him about whatever the woman he's written the song for has done to him. |
