The Mountain Goats – First Few Desperate Hours Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
I'm thinking the cargo being referred to is all their stuff that they couldn't fit in the car when they made the trip to tallahassee. and thus indicative of finalizing their move even though, by now, they've realized this was not such a good idea. (I could be wrong on this.)
the other part, I would think, quite obviously is trying to stay positive when the foundation of your new life is crumbling. |

The Good Life – Empty Bed Lyrics
|
baby I quit
I quit, I quit, I quit
I just don't want, I can't want anything
but to be left all alone here
in this empty bed
and maybe I can't sleep but I can't keep on these dumb lovers to help me rest
oh no, oh no, no no |

Joan of Arc – Apocalypse Politics Lyrics
|
the clouds spelled apocalypse
the clouds smelled the politics
I meet so many people, I gave up on names.
I figure that's okay 'cause I just call everyone "man" anyway.
rollin' over, rollin' over
returning to the dream
rollin' over, rollin' over
returning to a dream
with the earth agree to circle any and all points
can each be the center simultaneously
our world continues ending at its infinite variable speeds |

Kevin Devine – Protest Singer Lyrics

I really dislike this song based mainly on the fact that I can't imagine ANYONE EVER describing him as a protest singer. sure he sings a few songs about his political views but not..that much.. |

Eminem – Kim Lyrics

This song is brilliant lyrically. It's probably one of the most emotive pieces you will ever here, ever and there's no denying that there is power behind that. |

The Gloria Record – Miserere Lyrics

I think this song might be about Jesus and the resurrection. especially if the name means To Pity. there are a lot of refrences, it would be as if he were writing it as Jesus. the rolled away rock. the crumpled wings, the walking/running on water. and then the amazing dream would be heaven.
I don't know though, just a thought. |

Kind of Like Spitting – I Know You Heard Me The First Time Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
"It was a good life. Most time wasted. At least you had fun. You don't need it, so you live alone and that's OK, but you're pulling more plugs and it's harder to talk to you now a days. Have you taken your pills today? Have we taken our pills today, is your head OK? Playing dead in the shower for more than an hour, it's gonna be awhile."
I'm pretty sure that's from a Bukowski poem although I can't think of which one. I'm also pretty sure that's what he did because he took a segment from Alone With Everybody by Bukowski and used it in the song Mine |

The Good Life – Some Bullshit Escape Lyrics
| 19 years ago

if you listen to Cursive/The Good Life and Bright Eyes you can catch a lot of references between them because they were friends growing up. some of them are really blunt like when Conor says in Nothing Gets Crossed Out "Tim I heard your album and it's better than good. When you get off tour I think we should hang and black out together." but there are other subtle ones like in this song it's my best guess that when Tim talks about fevers he's linking up to Fevers and Mirrors and especially the explination of the symbolism of a fever off of it. |

Owen – Lights Out Lyrics

well from my understanding of Mike, he really loves Tim but also, (also!) seems to have a great deal of resentment for being his brother- some jealousy, a constant feeling of wanting to be his own man. he's tired of living in his brother's shadow. it comes out clearly in everything I've read by him and in interviews. I don't know if this song specifically is about Tim but it certainly could be. |

holy shit. I've never heard anything by this band but I love American Football, Owen, etc and thought I'd check out another Kinsella band (I know it's not the same one) and these lyrics totally blew me away. amazing. |
