The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Brother of the Mayor of Bridgewater Lyrics 16 years ago
I feel like it would be almost inappropriate to actually interpret World/Inferno songs, ya know? Too much thinking. What this song means to me is that it was their first song that I memorized and they played it when i saw them and I flipped out.

The Mr. T Experience – Sackcloth And Ashes Lyrics 19 years ago
But it says "in your sackcloth and ashes you'll never make them understand," he's still his old self. Either way, this song reminds me of "Vintage Queen" by Goldfinger. I dig the guitar in this song.

Wait, she left a suicide note, but he's been seeing her around? Did she wuss out, or did he get the clue and was all like "ok, I'll leave you alone?"

Moxy Früvous – Green Eggs & Ham Lyrics 19 years ago
My friends put this song on for a talent show and did an awesome job. They should have won, but the judges were biased (as we all know, Moxy Früvous fans are rarely the social norm).

Moxy Früvous – Michigan Militia Lyrics 19 years ago
Simply about a guy and his comrades staging a militiant revolution. I would think, judging by Früvous's very pronounced political views that this song is some sort of mockery, as are most of their songs regarding America.

Moxy Früvous – King Of Spain Lyrics 19 years ago
This is the second of their songs I heard (Green Eggs and Ham being the first). I always picture this guy standing at a pizza counter telling this story to kids who are waiting in line for their pizza.

They Might Be Giants – Cowtown Lyrics 19 years ago
The cows beneath the sea:Manitees. "the ardor of arboreality (arbor=tree reality=reality, a life in trees) is an adventure we have spurned". Manitees can't live outside of water, let alone in trees. "we yearn to swim for home but our only home is bone" The manitees want to be free from the motorboats that pollute their home and endanger them, but the only relief they will ever find is in death (bone). "how sleepless is the egg, knowing that which throws the stone forsees the bone?" The manitee has been made paranoid, much like an egg in a nest in a tree (ironic because manitees can't live in trees) with a predator beneath.

I read somewhere (probably tmbg.org) that this song is about one of the Johns' brother.

It sounds like he says "everyth-everything's falling apart," like someone starts saying it but he cuts in to say it.

Weezer – El Scorcho Lyrics 19 years ago
I connect with Rivers here, how certain types of girls or them saying certain things just gets to him/me. Half-Japanese girls smile at me and I gooey, a compliment from a red-head will leave me equally pliable.

Side-note regarding Mr.Pibb, sugar free Mr.Pibb has more caffeine than Mt. Dew.

Thursday – How Long Is the Night? Lyrics 19 years ago
I know everybody has already said it, but "I'll never even close my eyes" gets me every time, it's like there's a spell on it. I feel a meaning somewhere on the edge of my mind, I can only see glimpses, and it's like that with many Thursday songs. The last paragraph gets me too, someone vital is gone, but they still come around.

Thursday – Paris in Flames Lyrics 19 years ago
This just seems like what would be playing in some sort of post-apocolyptic scenario as one is wandering around the ruins of society.

Thursday – Autobiography of a Nation Lyrics 19 years ago
Powerful punch-in-the-face song, no attempts at sugar-coating. The screams, mentioned above by Dickwad, also present in most of their other songs, are basically saying "you can't ignore this anymore, it's here." Also, when reading tomscahillIV's comments about 'Nam and screaming, I was thinking that the screaming in this song is not screaming at all, compared to the true screams of the people being invaded or whatnot.

Thursday – A0001 Lyrics 19 years ago
I was wondering if perhaps this is in reference to Philip Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" I haven't read the book myself, but I have friends who have so I've heard the title and made the connection.

The Mr. T Experience – New Girlfriend Lyrics 19 years ago
Could you imagine actually singing this song to someone? Man, she'd either kill herself or you, really. Really leaves no stone unturned here, except maybe pulling the "smell" card (always potent).

The Mr. T Experience – How'd The Date End? Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this could be a fantastic video starting on a game show stage and going through the night, exaggerating all these terrible things happening to him. What really makes this song great is his tone though, it's almost upbeat, not the indignant tone or rejection expected.

The Mr. T Experience – Even Hitler Had A Girlfriend Lyrics 19 years ago
I find this song more touching than most emo due to its blatency (assuming tom had the spelling right), where the emo songs try to sound artistic and cryptic. nazipunksf*ckoff also made a good point about the jerk thing. Sometimes girls do go out with jerks, but often its just that either the girl is so fine that anybody next to her appears jerk-like or you're just upset because she doesn't dig you. Good song though, I like how the entire theme is displayed clearly in the title.

The Vandals – Clowns Are Experts (At Making Us Laugh) Lyrics 19 years ago
Clowns are creepy as anything I can think of(go watch ATHF "The Clowning" and be afraid), but this song really makes me feel for them. I mean, their feet are indeed quite large. Nobody respects them. My friend's dad used to be a clown, but he's also one of the smartest people I've ever known in my life. But if I saw him in a clown suit, I just don't know what I'd do. Although I think he was more of the party-tricks (juggling, unicycle, and the like) clown, not the walk-around-the-circus-scaring/scarring-kids type.

The Vandals – Ape Shall Never Kill Ape Lyrics 19 years ago
The line is from Planet of the Apes, where the main rule among those crazy apes is that they can't kill another ape, no matter what. The song makes me think of living under some sort of dictatorial rule (the first two lines). But the guy never said he agreed with the dictator, so he wouldn't be breaking any agreement by killing him. The dictator may have come to power after having much success as a soldier ("a hero"), maybe freeing the country, which would render it vulnerable to totalitarian rule. He is disappointed as he looks around him and beholds the fattened masses (or maybe himself) just sitting there going along with the dic because he's keeping them fed. There is some sort of "procedure" through which the dic pics people who don't go along with his plan, like loyalty tests and the like, so he can kill them and prevent a domino effect. The dictator says that his people shouldn't kill each other, but he kills the ones he doesn't like. This may be why the singer merely says his thoughts as opposed to acting on them. The last verse remains elusive, but it seems to fit with the rest of the song. And as the last line states, it's always the system getting us down.

The Vandals – An Idea For A Movie Lyrics 19 years ago
It made me seek out Mr. Pibb, which we don't have up here in Upstate NY. Turns out, it's like Dr. Pepper, but a little better. The names are very similar, a predominately male prefix followed by a P, a vowel, and a double consonant. Anyhow, this is also the first Vandals song I ever heard, and I heard it on the same source (a sweet bmx video with Nyquist and Mirra) as where I first heard Mr.T Experience (the song was "With Your Brains and My Looks). How's that for freaking awesome? This is a great song, it's like a ballad, and we should try to make the movie. The proceeds from it's tremendous success would go to buying punk cd's for underprivileged kids (and cd players of course and electricity and, uh, oh yeah, houses).

The Mr. T Experience – Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Lyrics 19 years ago
This isn't about love. It's merely the singer finding somebody who agrees with him on some topic, be it politics, music, or maybe just some social situation like all those high school scenarios. His entire life up to this point has been filled with wondering whether he's crazy or if everybody else is wrong and just general, ya know, "doubt." Anyhow, he has found this person in the last place left for him to go, perhaps underground, so to speak, the place where people of that mindset go when they decide that everybody else sucks. Also it is a safe zone, where they won't get persecuted "kicked out" for their thoughts. Anyhow, they are searching for somewhere to go to discuss their opinions. Basically they both think on the extreme of the topic, while everybody else thinks to appease, in the "middle ground." Everything else, the extremes, is wide open to discussion because nobody will touch it. Instead of "blah blah blah" or "yada yada yada," they go "Ba ba ba ba ba." I haven't figured out the teacher part. But the next part is just as simple as it sounds. The things that these two rebels have said are now being taken by the middle-grounders and being misused and such. Now the rebels can't say these things, because they will sound conformist. I'm drawing another blank on where the remorse comes from. But still the extremes of the topic are good, like an oyster (i.e. "the world is my oyster"), or a picnic, or just flat out terrific. The key change in the ba's means nothing.

Brand New – Soco Amaretto Lime Lyrics 19 years ago
As someone who doesn't drink (*gasp!*), I see this as somewhat satirical. These kids are talking about how great it is to be 18, but they are sitting around drinking poison (that sounds harsh, but it helps my point). My friend (also doesn't drink) and I talked about this when we first heard Brand New, then one of the popular kids in our class introduced the song to their group. It became our class anthem, and my friend and I were both amused and disappointed at the incredible irony. It is a good song though, I came into the feeling it expresses just a little while before I heard the song. Also, a kid in our class, everybody's friend, died three months after graduation. He was definitely the epitome of that song, so everybody's first thought was "he's gonna stay 18 forever."

Weezer – Hash Pipe Lyrics 19 years ago
Ok, ya'll heard Rivers saying it was about a transvestite prostitute (I personally just heard male prostitute), but can any of you tell me where the transvestite part comes from? Anybody? And along the argument of the album; Just because they change and more people like them doesn't mean that they're sell-outs. And not liking the album just because lots of people like it is still letting other people dictate how you think. If you like it, you like it.

Weezer – Butterfly Lyrics 19 years ago
The line "with my momma's mason jar" makes me think he got the girl by being a gentleman, something all of our moms teach us. Though I can't help but wonder what Rivers would think if he came across this site and saw us all sitting here pulling his music apart with interpretations. Then again, poetry is and always has been open to interpretation.

Weezer – Mykel And Carli Lyrics 19 years ago
The second verse, regarding the hat and the teacher removing it, makes me think of the singer trading something emotional for something intellectual. The hat represents emotions, things that make you feel "warm and fuzzy." "My head gets cold at night sometimes" is the singer missing those emotions, with nothing to make him warm and fuzzy. "But I can't be mislead." Instead he has intellect, which keeps him from being tricked. He's cold, but efficient.
