Los Campesinos! – Hello Sadness Lyrics 12 years ago
Unlike hornsofarabbit, I don't think it's about G losing her to another guy but to time.

"
your tongue the tide
your lips the shore
i am the jetsam overboard

goodbye courage

i christen all the ships that sailed
on your little kisses' saliva trails

goodbye courage
hello sadness again"

The way that's broken up suggests one night stands to me. He ends up in bed with her and when it comes time to kiss each other goodbye he loses the courage to speak up and suggest they give some sort of relationship another try.

I see the same thing in the lipstick ring. He sees it as a sign of their devotion, where it's actually a mark of passion; a lipstick stain from the girl who just took the walk of shame back home on a Sunday morning.

I find it's all paraphrased in the wishbone verse. He's worried about taking what he wants because it might destroy everything he has, while at the same time fearing that if he remains inactive that she'll find another.

Broken Social Scene – World Sick Lyrics 14 years ago
There is definitely an 'a' sound in the last line of the first verse, so the line would be 'I'm romancin' a dick so that I can confess that". Not only does that not make any sense it is an awfully blunt comment when the rest of the lyrics are so subtle if that is indeed the meaning.

The whole theme of the song hinges on that one word, and I doubt the people who would interpret it as 'romanicin' dick' would do so if they listened to the song through some good headphones.

So I think Kimbee's original statement was the right one. Liberties are being taken from the people and those taking them away are not making it known. Look at the current situation in Greece, the policies of those who ran in the latest British election and worldwide internet censorship bills as proof.

Silversun Pickups – Catch and Release Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it's more to do with the chase rather than the aftermath. When you're interested in someone and it is working out slowly everything starts feeling different. You start noticing little things that make you happy, like the feel of the wind or the smell of rain.

Sera Cahoone – Baker Lake Lyrics 15 years ago
This is my favourite Sera Cahoone song probably, though I prefer the self-titled album these days. I will try and write the lyrics to her songs to put up here, as I don't think sorrow has ever felt like a human condition rather than varying issues between the sexes. Simply beautiful music.

Carissa's Wierd – The Color That Your Eyes Changed With The Color Of Your Hair Lyrics 15 years ago
Definitely my favourite CW song too. The live version that I have is exceptionally well delivered and is probably better than the album version. There's a rawness in the live guitar that's as grave as the lyrics, and his voice is almost ghostly in it's intimacy. I'm sure there are very few people who can't relate to this song.

Carissa's Wierd – Ignorant Piece of Shit Lyrics 15 years ago
Someone has sort of mentioned it before, but it seems like it's about someone that the writer cared about, but that person was selfish and ignorant, thought they were alone and killed themselves. A few years ago a friend's brother killed himself when he and his girlfriend broke up, and the situation pretty much played out like this song. It's a blunt look at suicide, because a lot of the time it is a selfish crime that results in the emotional scarring of everyone who knew the deceased, and I applaud the band for it.

Carissa's Wierd – (March 19th 1983) It Was Probably Green Lyrics 15 years ago
I would definitely consider this to be a song about a small child, because he says her favourite colour was 'probably green', because they didn't have a chance to connect with her as she died so young. It is such a brilliant representation of this sort of scenario that I wouldn't be surprised if one of the band members had gone through this in one way or another.

The Gaslight Anthem – The Navesink Banks Lyrics 16 years ago
I can't believe there are no comments on this song. This song blew me away, the lyrics are brilliant - specifically the line 'My first sin was a young American girl."

Firescape – The Way You Are Lyrics 17 years ago
Listening to this on the album I really thought this song was about an intense, draining dance. However previously I had the same belief as 'starsfinallyxplode' and I think that may be the true meaning of the song.

Melancholy/bitter sex. A great way to put it.

Brand New – Coca-Cola Lyrics 17 years ago
On a very literal note, which I know is a good way to analyse Brand New songs, for me this is a doctor's perspective on life in his occupation.

It starts with him losing a patient that he seems to have had some connection with. Everywhere he goes in the hospital reminds him of the patient, he even believes he can still smell the patient. Then he starts to worry if he is getting too old for his profession, that he has lost his skill as he ages.

"If it's by air
then i don't want to know
If we all don't take cover
then were all gonna fall back in love again"

I don't understand the first line but the doctor is warning other doctors to stay objective with their patients or else in the case of a tragedy the death can get to them and bringing them down hard and fast.

"They've worked out
all the bugs
so now if you have enough money
you can buy love"

I could continue but I'll leave it with this verse. Simply means with the lack of health care professionals in hospitals that it is generally the ones with the money that get preferential treatment in the hope of them funding a private hospital after they recover.

This song reminds me of an episode of Scrubs and I think if it is released soon enough it'll probably make it onto the show one day.

Funeral for a Friend – Hospitality Lyrics 18 years ago
I think he is singing about the euthanasia debate. I don't know if it is as big in the States as it is in Australia but lines like "Cant you kill this beating heart?" promote for me a belief that he wants the doctors to turn him off life support so that he can die.

Rather then praying to God I think something has come into his life that makes him change his ideas (this is my belief remember) and makes him think that he should be less cowardly and refuse to just let himself be killed. As he says "More of a man than I was before" so rather then being a religious matyr he doesn't want to be a matyr to make a point for pro-euthanasia.

All in all one of their best songs, the ending especially makes it so much dignified in my eyes.

Something Corporate – Straw Dog Lyrics 19 years ago
From www.rockingthescene.com-

Tyler: What does the lyric “…the straw dog’s out in the street” mean?

Andrew: That actually comes back to that book I was telling you about, “The Dao De Jing”, it’s a reference from that book. A “straw dog” is like this ceremonial figure in some, I’m going to really fuck this up, but in some eastern culture it’s almost how a crucifix is looked at in Christianity. The only difference is after it’s one of the most respected thing in their ceremonies, they trash it out in the street, they beat it up and disregard it. To me that was kind of a pretty decent statement about the way youth is treated in America. Like everybody says that they’re our future and most important thing in the world. Then you see the way that teachers and police and everybody treat them, they kind of treat them like shit even though they supposedly the most honored thing in the world. That’s kind of like my take on it. It’s not anything I would ever expect anybody to decipher, it’s like the most senseless babble. To me writing was never more of a inventing type thing. If I can’t relate to it on personal level then it’s bullshit to me anyway, so it ends up being more specific than general.

Something Corporate – Little Lyrics 19 years ago
Heard this song at the end of "Live at the Ventura Theatre" and it hit me harm, such a great song. Have to wait so long until Something Corporate come back to Australia, haven't seen them live except on the DVD. What is Little like live?
