I believe it's 'lenin read a book on marx' as in the russian leader, not lennon the musician.

Iron Maiden – Back In The Village Lyrics 16 years ago
uptheirons, there's a few allusions to the prisoner, no. 6 (the protagonist) always ends up back in 'the village' no matter how hard he tries to escape, the line "questions are a burden and answers a prison to oneself" is a direct quote from the series, and the line 'i have no number, i am a name' is another direct refference to the much quoted 'i am not a number i ama free man!'

Plastic Bertrand – Ça Plane Pour Moi Lyrics 17 years ago
hehe. we bought the single on vinyl just because we thought he looked like the campest 'punk' ever... then realised that jet boy jet girl is basically the same song with different lyrics. definately one of the going out songs in my house

Voltaire – Dead Girls Lyrics 17 years ago
danny elfman and morrissey are two of voltaires influences. My mates think he sounds like jack skellington.
a girl and i actually had a debate with someone over this song, we came to the conclusion that i would be complimented if someone wanted to desicrate my corpse in such a manner.... twas a good partay.

I do think we're lookin too far into it... I personally think its just a story about a guy who made a bet with the devil.

Blur – Bang Lyrics 18 years ago
i have to say i like this song. I think it's less about unrequited love and more the general desire of love. How although you continue living life without love, love makes the world a better place... One thing i'd like to know though is what to they mean by SDT?

Blur – For Tomorrow Lyrics 18 years ago
i agree with reactor, except for Damon (and the rest of the band) are all middle class art school children.

Johnny Cash – One Piece at a Time Lyrics 18 years ago
yeah, this is about a guy who builds a car from stolen pices. I love cash's sense of humour, but i also love his ability to be soulful.
I've noticed that this song sounds very similar to boy named sue... hmmmmmm :-p

Kaiser Chiefs – I Predict a Riot Lyrics 18 years ago
Pude is 100% right... however, chav's looking down on indie kids isn't so far removed from how Indie hipsters view the rest of the rock scene. I love indie music, but all those who view themselves as better than me just because i've never heard of their bands should recieve my boots up their skinny jeans.

Nightwish – Dark Chest Of Wonders Lyrics 18 years ago
it makes me think of re-opening pandoras box. Possibly just the lines: "Dark chest of wonders
Seen through the eyes
Of the one with pure heart
Once so long ago"

Specially since all was meant to be pure and innocent until the box was opened.... just a thought.

Lordi – My Heaven Is Your Hell Lyrics 19 years ago
theres plenty of vampire refferences in this song, and as many of their songs seem to be about monsters or monsterous acts im inclined to think its about vapmirism.

Graham Coxon – Freakin' Out Lyrics 19 years ago
Ramagamma, graham isnt trying to be bigger than blur, he left because he didnt want to write 'another parklife'. Anyway onto the meaning of this song.

The pop-punk guitars are meant as a kind of irony, he's writing a mainstreamish style song as a semi attack on mainstream music.
"nothin to loose nothing to gain" can be seen as a statement about young bands, they've come from nothing but in the end theyll have nothing. It can also be seen as a reference to his solo career. He's got nothin to loose from it and he knows that he wont acheive his former level of stardom.

"the price of friendship is way too dear" could be a reference to blur, but i doubt it. Its hard to find true friends in the music industry, i think thats what this line was refering to.

Its a semi warning to other musicians.

thats what it means to me.

Ozzy Osbourne – Mr. Crowley Lyrics 19 years ago
DarkSideoftheWall, although what you say is generally true crowley himself claimed to have been borne with 'the three signs of a budha' these where apparently included, being quite literally tongue tied (he apparently had an operation which involved the area below the tongue being removed), a membrain covering his forskin, and in his own words 'four hairs curling from left to right in the exact form of a swastika'.
of course crowley often embellished tales of his life so you could be entirely correct, im just pointing out where ozzygurly got the idea of the birthmark.
most of this was quoted from a biography on him entitled A magick life.

Black Sabbath – Sabbra Cadabra Lyrics 19 years ago
hmm seems abit creepy towards the end... kinda obsessive... i can see what ferkung means about it gettin kinda dark...

I have to say i prefer the sabbath version but the metallica version does it justice i think, i like the way they throw national acrobat in there.

Black Sabbath – Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe this song is about a clockwork orange. (The book rather than the film), a lot of the lyrics seem to correspond with the main character and the line "bog blast all of you" refers to the use of the word bog instead of god which appears frequently in the book.

Green Day – Hitchin' a Ride Lyrics 19 years ago
I think everything has been said about this song. I think the variation of a classic blues figure that the bass uses (see songs like hit the road jack and feelin good) exemplifies the meaning. I love the sound of bluesy riffs done alongside destorted guitars.

Spinal Tap – Stonehenge Lyrics 19 years ago
Dareka you're mostly right. Although it was particularly inspired by the more 'occult' bands, infact the performance is said to be based on a similar misshap that black sabbath apparently had to endure whilst performing a song with the same name.

Of course i may be missinformed but who cares. Its a great song and a great movie either way.

Blur – On Your Own Lyrics 20 years ago
one of my personal favourites. i feel it about acid and how drugs can be accebtable but also dangerous "im not that good/ but im not that bad" expresses this duality.
"I'll eat parole get gold card soul" again expresses the dangers with drugs use (i.e. prison) but how these can be problems can be overcome.

the line in the first verse "but he blew all his money away" is a statements at drug prices. the main note of the song "we'll all be the same in the end" could be in reply to those who condem drugs saying that it doesnt matter what happens coz the end is the same.

there are probably other meanings and i must say my state of mind wasnt... um... clean... when i figured this out but it kinda makes sense...
