Pink Floyd – Sheep Lyrics 18 years ago
I cannot say enough about this song. It is easily one of the most underrated songs from the most underrated album. I love how it starts off so innocently and then just explodes, how very Pink floydesque. I think everyone here has pretty much nailed the meaning though. The lyrics basically describe the subservient pigs and how they rise up against their masters. The whole thing is supposed to symbolise humans. Although the pigs succeed in the end, I cannot help but feel like their victory is bittersweet. Not sure why though.

Audioslave – Be Yourself Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the first band in recent years that i have found to actually have some shread of talent. This song is fairly decent and the guitar style reminds me a lot of David Gilmour from Pink Floyd. I know there is a pink floyd song that has a similar guitar riff but i cant figure out which one. Anyway i definately look forward to what kind of things they come out with in the future.

Jethro Tull – Up To Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that, keeping with the overall theme of the album, this song is about blaming your mistakes and problems on God. "me" in the song i think is god. After you got wasted in a bar, punched out your cousin, you would go to god for forgiveness. It could also be about a guy who always comes running to his friend for help. And eventually the friend just gets sick of it and laughs at the guy's mistakes. Pretty good song though.

Pink Floyd – Coming Back to Life Lyrics 18 years ago
I will admit that when I first heard this song, I hated it. It is so different from the older floyd sound. Recently I have been playing it more and more. While the music is not amazing, the lyrics make up for it. Overall its a really good song. It definately takes some getting used to though.

Jethro Tull – For A Thousand Mothers Lyrics 18 years ago
Basically an outlash at his parents for doubting his potential. They always said that he couldnt do it or he wouldnt make it. Then he comes home in a limousine which he is accustomed to driving in. For them (his parents) here's a song.

Jethro Tull – Crazed Institution Lyrics 18 years ago
Famous one minute, then replaced by the next big thing. The song is about how we can quickly lose interest in something or someone and go on to something else. This is the second best song on the album after the title track.

Jethro Tull – Acres Wild Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is from the Heavy Horses album. The most underrated Tull album in my opinion. The song is reminiscent of songs off the Songs from the Wood album like Hunting Girl and Velvet Green. Basically it is a sex-in-the-fields song.

Pink Floyd – Echoes Lyrics 18 years ago
I do not know what to say about this song. I listen to it over and over again and every time I think I know what it means, I just begin asking more questions. Everyone is right about how the song evokes strong emotions. I have never heard anything like that before in my life. This piece was so far ahead of its time. What an excellent musical soundscape Floyd creates in the song. This song is easily one of the best songs from any genre of all time.

Roger Waters – Amused To Death Lyrics 18 years ago
The meaning is pretty clear as stated by BrainDamage. Still it is a very interesting version of our demise. Just goes to show that Waters is a great lyricist and visionary. Although i dont care for the music as much it is still a good song.

Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree that the song is about war but I think there is more to it than that. When wars develop we instinctively divide ourselves up. In a war there are only two sides: Us and Them. This song explains how stupid war is by showing how it separates us. By using generic terms, US and THEM, Floyd makes the song timeless. No matter what, there will always be wars or conflicts or disputes where we divide ourselves. There is also a sense of facelessness implied by using Us and Them as the terms. Us can be anyone and They could be anyone. I think the ambiguous nature of the lyrics is an important factor in the song's meaning.

Pink Floyd – Careful with That Axe, Eugene Lyrics 18 years ago
It isnt supposed to mean much of anything. In my mind it is a brilliant musical portrait of an axe murderer murdering someone with an axe. Definately the most creepy Floyd song. The screams in the middle will freak anyone out on first listening.

Pink Floyd – High Hopes Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is quite obviously about the breakup of the band. Some of the lines are so clear like

"beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
our troughts strayed constandly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begin"

The part about being consumed by slow decay implies that the band was going to break up eventually anyway. There is also a sense that the "world" that Floyd created was more than could be sustained by any humans. Despite that, they still wanted and strived for more. If you don't get it the first time, listen to it more and more. You will get it eventaully.

I don't really care what the song is about, I just know that it rocks. Every time I hear it I think of Dazed And Confused. What a great movie.

Jethro Tull – Wond'ring Again Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is really beautiful and its counterpart, Wond'ring Aloud, is just as good. The song is a response to a study about the rapid explosion of human population and its effects on the planet.
"The brainwashing government lackeys would have us say it's under control and we'll soon be on our way."
Even though this explosion is happeneing as we speak, the government would have us believe that everything is fine. When the song changes in the end, it begins to describe a woman and a man who are "Wond'ring aloud will a son one day be born
to share in our infancy
in the child's path we've worn.
In the aging seclusion of this earth that our birth did surprise
we'll open his eyes."
This part serves to say that even though things look dismal, we can teach the next generation about the problems so they can avoid the same mistakes. This song is one of Tull's best and one of the most underrated.

Jethro Tull – Two Fingers Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about a person's death. The weighing in is when he arrives in heaven. What does his life amount to? You better leave your underpants with someone you can trust refers to embarassing parts of your life. Meaning they had better be secured. When the old man cuts the strand, refers to Death ending your. When that happens you better lick your fingers before you shake his hand. I think this means that you had better remove the sins and dirty aspects of your life before you have to meet Death.

The Alan Parsons Project – The Turn of a Friendly Card Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about gambling addiction. There are obvious allusions to gambling. "a wheel in prepetual motion" could be a roulette wheel. "Thers's a sign in the desert that lies to the west, where you can't tell the night from the sunrise" I think that is directly referring to Vegas.
The overall impact of the song is that if you depend on gambling, eventually your going to get burned. And "not all the Kings horses and all the King's men" can prevent your demise.

Jethro Tull – A Passion Play Lyrics 19 years ago
In a very abbreviated explanation, this song is about a man who dies and goes to heaven. He is shown his life in the "viewing room". He soon discovers that heaven is not what he thought and tells God that he wants to go to hell. He then finds that hell is no better than heaven and so he requests to be reborn. It's a really cool song with a lot of allusions that can be tricky to decipher. Also these lyrics are not complete. This is only half the song.

The Alan Parsons Project – Some Other Time Lyrics 19 years ago
based on the theme of the album, i think the meaning of this song is that the era of humankind is over and it is being replaced by the era of the robot.
"It's the evening of another day
And the end of mine"

Jethro Tull – Locomotive Breath Lyrics 20 years ago
This is a great song. The song is telling about a man who is a loser in a death spiral. He loses his wife and kids. As he rides this 'train' to his inevitable death, there is no way to slow down.
