i agree with it being about his stomach pains. "distill the life thats inside of me". the only thing i can get out of that is that the life could be the pains and he's taking all this stuff to "distill the life" as in stopping the pain. thats my 2 cents. most likely wrong but w/e. |

Origin of Symmetry is easily the best album ever. Seriously. I agree with it being about the digital age and everything, but I also agree with it being about the internet porn thing. What seems to give me this idea is the very first line "I've exposed your lies baby" because sometimes you don't know who you're talkin to online, you know?But he's finally found out the truth and now "its time for changing and cleansing everything to forget your love" so he has to forget about this person(I'm assuming it would be a woman, or maybe he just thought it was a woman?) and move on with his life. I really love the introduction to this song. As someone said above (Leviathon90), it does seem like it could be played on a violin getting faster and faster. One of my favourite Muse songs. I think its only beaten by Hysteria which just freaks me out so much its starting to get fun. Ciao for now. |

First of all, I wanna say I'm so proud of Tori for writing this song. Rape is such a traumatising experience, but to come out of it and write a song to inspire millions of victims worldwide is amazing. The first time I heard this song, I had just bought her "Tales of A Librarian" CD, and I was just flicking through the songs when I heard Tori's voice say "5am, Friday morning, Thursday night, far from sleep" and I just stopped.I just had to listen to the rest. The more I listened, the more it got to me. I spent that night in the dark, listening to that song over and over again. The lyrics which really got to me were "Yes I wore a slinky red thing, does that mean I should spread for you, your friends, your father, Mr Ed". This is about saying that girls who wear these sort of clothes are easy and deserved to be raped. To quote Tori - “I sing: ‘Yes, I wore a slinky red thing. Does that mean I should spread for you?’ That’s the way it is, yes? ‘But mister judge, she was hitchhiking in a mini-skirt!’ Bullshit!” |

I read an interview where Tori was talking about someone she hated and she referred to her as a "cornflake girl". Now I'm not great with symbolism and philosophy (I leave that to the beloved Tori) but I think the cornflake girl was, you know, the popular girl but she never was a cornflake girl because she thought it was better to be friends with the raisin girls, who I would assume are people not as popular. But the way she sings in this song is confusing. She could think it was a good solution not to be a cornflake girl or it was a good solution to "hang with the raisin girls". And what were the "sweeteaze"? Because they went to the other side too. In the sleeve for Tales Of A Librarian, this song came under Betrayal, so is going to the other side betraying her? But you know, that's only my thoughts. It's still my favourite Tori song ever. I first heard it when I was 4 and I'm now 15. 11 years of Cornflake Girl bliss (no pun intended). |
