Creed – Faceless Man Lyrics 20 years ago
i know there are alot of possible ways to interpret, but i think this song IS christian, mostly because part of the lyrics come straight from the Bible.

In matthew 11:30 Jesus says to his disciples, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light" - which is what scott stapp says about the "warrior".

i don't know how the verse may or may not fit into the message or theme of the song, but i don't think it's coincedence that a verse from the Bible is directly quoted in the song.

Pearl Jam – Given to Fly Lyrics 21 years ago
My Interpretation

this song is religiously inspired. it's about a man who is experiencing a low time in his life and once he finds christ, his burdens are lifted and he is so grateful he "flies".

When he "comes down" from his spiritual euphoria, he tries to share and spread the love he found with others, but he is betrayed. he is 'stripped' of his glory and 'stabbed' in the back, but God's love sustains him. He still gives away God's love by sharing his salvation with others and spreading the gospel. (we can infer God's love from the line 'the love he receives is the love that can save'). The "strange spot in the sky" is that of a star perhaps? the man shining down from heaven?........

The man IS a Jesus-like character, since he was stripped to be put on the cross, stabbed by a roman soldier, the love of Christ can 'save' anyone who repents and asks to receive the holy spirit.

FYI: for the person who wrote the message two before mine, siddhartha was the founder of the Buddhist religion. He asserts that by following the eightfold path and other set standards of behavior, one can achieve enlightenment. Though these standards are morally beneficial, nowhere in the religious doctrine of the Buddhists is a God or otherwise intelligent designer and ruler of Earth acknowledged. It is more of a grouping of philosophies, a system of thought, than a religion. I'm not saying Siddhartha wasn't a moral person, nor am i saying he is bad, but perhaps "godly" isn't the correct adjective.

Pearl Jam – Dissident Lyrics 21 years ago
i think it is about a person who falls in love with a rebel/outcast. (referring to definition of 'dissident' as one separated from widesread belief.) the person is intrigued by the other's danger and brazen attitude, and continues to see them despite protest or disapproval. But due to outside pressure from source: the accepted views of society and what she is doing is "wrong" in the eyes of others, she decides to end the relationship despite whatever feelings she may have. (She gave him away when she couldn't hold on). She regrets her decision and distances herself from others. (always home but so far away). She thinks that she should have stood up for him/her feelings, and feels bad that she didn't. (nothing said, what a waste). the line "when she had contact with the conflict, there was meaning...but she sold him to the state, she had to turn around" laments that when she first met the person she found meaning for herself with him instead of becoming a slave to society. But she cracks under the pressure of not being accepted by society and so she "sold him to the state" which i think means that she placed the values of society above their friendship/relationship, and sold him out when she dumped him. She realizes that escaping from such rebelliousness and conflict is not a solution, and that sometimes being callous to the viewpoints of others is necessary.

by the way, this song got me hooked on pearl jam. They kick ass and are my favorite band. very underappreciated, but not by the fans. screw their critics.

Pearl Jam – Alive Lyrics 21 years ago
I just wanted everyone to know that i used to be a creed fan. The band that turned me around and knocked some sense into me was pearl jam. Fuck Scott Stapp, Eddie Vedder kicks ass and so does this song. I will not attempt to explain it since adequate information is given by other users. Pearl Jam is the band of the 90's, no doubt.

Soundgarden might have started the grunge movement and Nirvana might have recieved all the publicity, but anyone who can tell their dick from their toe will tell you that this song and the entire "ten" album PERFECTED the grunge music style.

Creed – Pity For A Dime Lyrics 22 years ago
i think stapp is talking about how when his bad decisions and the consequences of those choices caught up with him, he didn't know where to turn or how to react, so all he could do was to feel sorry for himself, and try to get others to do the same thing (hence the song title)

Creed – In America Lyrics 22 years ago
i think this song is genius. Scott Stapp is talking about how the problems of america can lead one to lose faith in society, government, and authority in general. Scott talks about greed, abortion, and how easy it is to lose your direction and abandon values when tempted by the "dark side", if you will. The best part of this song is that it is written in such a way that it is not a whiny bitchy song about triumphing over authority and hating the government, but about finding something to believe in when you don't believe in anything else. (.... i don't know who to believe in, my soul sings a different song in america)

Creed – Sister Lyrics 22 years ago
first of all, creed kicks ass and this song rocks. i think it's about how when scott stapp was having family problems he started to realize that his sister was put in an awkward position, and thus he wrote this song from her perspective. my personal fave on their first cd.
