Jimmy Eat World – Goodbye Sky Harbor Lyrics 22 years ago
ok, i am shocked that no one noticed this...i am going to describe this to the best of my ability.

one of the best lines, in my opinion is, "I am but one small instrument, do you remember that?"

If you notice, the whole musical outro, which i must say is musical genious at its peak, adds another instrument or note or rhythm to the song as it goes along. each time something is added, another "voice" is added to complete a whole. Thus, "i am but one small instrument" makes sense to the whole instrumental part because each one of these little instruments are heard to make a huge orgasmic listening experience. lets face it, if there were two guitars, bass, and drums playing this, it would not have as effect as it does now.

I feel this is more noticed towards the end when the actual voices come in and sing. Do you remember that?

I don't know if that represents how i feel, but i really cant describe it...try to figure it out and listen carefully. just my 2 cents

Green Day – Hitchin' a Ride Lyrics 22 years ago
Yeah, at Pop Disaster...Billie Joe had complete control over the fans...if he said something quiet...the fans replied with something quiet and if he screamed, the fans would scream. The crowd responce was insane...they are definately the best live band.

Green Day – No One Knows Lyrics 22 years ago
This is such a chillin' song. I personally like the line "Does it seem like all your memories fade, You soak up knowledge to fill the space, And still my answer, remains...I don't know" which goes along with the theme of trying to stay young and irresponsible while others expect him to grow up. (like TaoAvatar20 said) This is one of the classics that many people overlook. What a shame. Great Song

Green Day – Nice Guys Finish Last Lyrics 22 years ago
The video for this song is pretty funny. I must agree/disagree with you two...*most* girls suck. ;) I strongly do believe all of the good guys end up last. It normally happens that way. I've been there. Great Song anyways

Green Day – Maria Lyrics 22 years ago
This song actually grows on you more and more as you listen to it. (well, at least me) I saw Green Day open their set with it and they opened the show with a lot of bang. I decided I love this song and that they definately didn't slow down through the years, like TearJerker said. (unlike Fenix Tx...haha just kidding...i love them too)

Green Day – Tight Wad Hill Lyrics 22 years ago
This is one of the best hard-driving songs on Insomniac. Tight Wad Hill is a hill overlooking John Swett High School in California where all of the druggies would hang out and watch the football games for free. ("Cheapskate on a hill") Great Song!

Green Day – Pulling Teeth Lyrics 22 years ago
I'm pretty sure Pulling Teeth is about Mike Dirnt's ex-wife. They were having a pillow fight and Mike turned around the corner and hit his head on a low beam and then fell backwards and broke both of his elbows. (suddenly "I'm all busted up, broken bones & nasty cuts, Accidents will happen, But this time I can't get up" makes a little more sense!)

I've also heard that there is a Metallica song called "Anesthesia Pulling Teeth", and because Mike's ex-wife's name was Anastasia, Billie Joe made made the song called "Pulling Teeth".

Green Day – J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva) Lyrics 22 years ago
J.A.R. is the initials for Mike's friend, Jason Andrew Relva, who died. Jason Andrew Relva was actually friends with the entire band not just Mike. Mike wrote the lyrics and Green Day wrote the music together. greendayfan02 is right. Green Day can definately make music that is moving and symbolic, but doesn't make it all depressing. Great song.

Green Day – All by Myself Lyrics 22 years ago
Though this song appeared at the end of Dookie, it was actually recorded on a small 4-track recorder in someones house while everyone was stoned. Go figure.

Green Day – Geek Stink Breath Lyrics 22 years ago
Methany, actually the band does admit to using speed in their younger days, but I don't believe they still do it. I think they might have cleaned up a bit, but not totally ;).

Green Day – I Was There Lyrics 22 years ago
Yeah, I agree...though a lot fo stuff comes from experience and Green Day were pretty young when the first recorded. (actually, Billie Joe was only 12 years old when he sang and recorded "Why Do You Want Him") but I think the band were in their late teens when they recorded 1,039 SOSH. However, BJ is very happy with his marriage and family life, so newer songs are being a little more optimistic.

Green Day – Hitchin' a Ride Lyrics 22 years ago
I must agree...this song is fucking incredible when they play it live. At the warped tour show, everyone in the crowd literally fell to one side...BJ actually stopped singing (mike and tre kept playing) and get everyone up on their feet. "People came here to hear music, not fucking die" Gotta love the man.

Green Day – Having a Blast Lyrics 22 years ago
I always looked at this song as a way of expressing anger. It does hint that he wants to commit suicide, but I also infer that he wants to let it be known and leave a mass destruction behind.

"I'm talking all you down with me
Explosives duct taped to my spine"
and
"Did it bring you so down that you thought you lost your mind ? Do you ever want to lead a long trail of destruction"

- Imagine someone in a big building with explosives around them. Not many people would do that to kill themselves..they would do it to harm others also.

Then again he also says:
"Do you ever build up all the small things in your head
To make one problem that adds up to nothing"

which could mean hes not actually going to do anything, he was just pissed and realized he was just creating more problems. I found the most meaning behind this song during 9-11. That's when it struck me. Either way, this song fucking kicks ass.

Green Day – Green Day Lyrics 22 years ago
The song "Green Day" was written when the band was called Sweet Children. They liked the name of the song so much that they changed their band name to Green Day. I think the line "Picture sounds Of moving insects so surreal" is a pretty cool line. Great Song

Green Day – F.O.D. Lyrics 22 years ago
The words in the distorted part are:

I've had this burning in my guts now
for so long
My belly's aching now to say
I'm taking pleasure in the doubts
I've passed to you
So listen up as you bite thisss...

This song is a perfect example of Green Day's "fuck you" attitude. Fucking awesome! One of the best songs Green Day has to offer.

Yeah, I agree, it's definately about meeting a friend who has changed a little. Let me tell you, it really sucks when that happens. BJ has a way with words.

Green Day – Dominated Love Slave Lyrics 22 years ago
Tre Cool sings this song on the album and (from what I've heard) Green Day's old drummer from 1039 SOSL, John Kiftmeyer, filled in on the drumset.

I saw a show from the Dookie tour and Tre Cool actually left the drums and came to the front of the stage with a guitar and played the song by himself. When the drums came in..guess who it was? Billie Joe! Ha that one was exciting

Green Day – Desensitized Lyrics 22 years ago
Unfortunally, I think we all have been desensitized in some way with all of the media around. Billie Joe basically sums it up here.

Green Day – Coming Clean Lyrics 22 years ago
I also think this is one of Green Day's most underrated songs. It's really catchy. "Secrets collecting dust but never forget" is such a great line. I think I might agree with kodiakbear, but there could be a more metaphoric meaning behind it. Great song!

Green Day – Chump Lyrics 22 years ago
Good call Wazoo! I don't know how accurate it is, but it sure as hell fits into the song! I feel this is one of the most underrated Green Day songs. "Chump" has so much energy and such a catchy chorus. The transition into Longview was very cleaver. This is a great song!

Green Day – Christie Road Lyrics 22 years ago
This song definately combines the amazing aspects of a ballad and punk song together in one. The lyrics help make that transition too. In the beginning half of the song, it's about boredom, having no where exciting to go and wanting to go to "Christie Road" (which I suspect is a metaphor for some kind of place BJ wants to go to?) and then as soon as the song picks up some speed and intensity, BJ is now saying "If there's one thing that I need That makes me feel complete So I go to Christie Road It's home..." as if he made it to the place he wanted to go to. Did that make sense? Anyways, it's one of Green Day's greatest songs and is even more incredible live!

Green Day – Castaway Lyrics 22 years ago
I've been a fan of Green Day for almost 8 years now. In that time period, I've seen everything from early Dookie to their recent stuff. Though personally, I love everything before Nimrod, (though everything by Green Day is great), but I have to commend Green Day on writing the material for Warning. It must have taken a lot of gusts to be totally different and try new things in the studio. People say they suck now, or that they are not punk anymore, but did you ever notice they are still fucking old Green Day live? I respect them for trying something different in the studio. This song is definately one of the better songs off of Warning in my opinion...add a little more distortion and you have a song off of Nimrod!

Green Day – Burnout Lyrics 22 years ago
The title "Burnout" could also come from emotional or physical stress build up. "Throw emotions in the grave
Hell, who needs them anyway" this is a fucking awesome song! a great way to start of a great album.

Green Day – Burnout Lyrics 22 years ago
I agree with jumpsunday. Though the line, "In my smoked out boring room", could have meaning to the song title "Burnut". As if he smoked so much that he became a burnout and started not to care anymore.

Green Day – Brain Stew Lyrics 22 years ago
Grr...it's a shame people only hear of their "favorite" bands from the radio...when half the time they don't even know who sings it. paperlanterns and NihilisticFerret are right. Brain Stew, along with most of the Insomniac album, was written when Billie Joe's son was born and he was up all night as a father. Thus the name.

On the surface it's about bondage I suppose, but there is probably a metaphoric message behind it.

Green Day – Basket Case Lyrics 22 years ago
If you ever saw Green Day live...you would quickely agree they are punk. Yeah, so they have decided to experiment in the studio with different stuff than in past albums? Who can blame them?? Honestly, how many songs can you possibly write with 4-6 chords! (Which by the way, is not BUT punk!) Green Day has a great fuck you attitude, which I also must say is punk.
