Wheat – Don't I Hold You? Lyrics
|
here's what i hear from the end of the song...
sometimes i hold you right,
nice and tight to me,
most times, on account of it's
based on need, not selfish greed or pride.
don't i? (x 5?)
don't i hold you like you want? |

Hot Hot Heat – Le Le Low Lyrics

this is such a great song.
it's so true that living in today, especially with today's media, you get left feeling lost and low.
i just wish they could've gotten around saying "medias," but i'll let them get by with artistic license. :) |

Ryan Adams – Life Is Beautiful Lyrics

i just love this song. i think it's one of the most positive songs that he's written. it makes it seem like he's in love and optimistic about life, and it's just nice to hear that every now and then. |

The Dismemberment Plan – Gyroscope Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Really? 15/8? It feels like you get that strange half beat every other measure, which could make the odd number make sense, but I'd pin it as something more like 13/8. Actually, though, I think the 4/4 analysis is right--with a strange accent on the last eighth or sixteenth note of the measure, so sometimes it feels like an extra beat. I think that's why the signature seems to change, or be in mixed measure, because it's easy to leave out the accent and change the flow. |

Ray LaMontagne – Burn Lyrics

This song is so beautiful. Almost all of his songs are about heartbreak or loss, and while most of them seem to reflect unrequited love, this is about just plain losing someone that you need so much. I love the way he talks about his tears and emotions in such a real and physical way, yet makes it sound completely true and not cheesy at all. |

Wilco – Jesus, Etc. Lyrics

This doesn't really compare to the awesome comments that precede it, but I was looking around on iTunes celebrity playlists last night, and *many* celebrities have this on their lists. Not that it matters that celebrities listen to it, but that kinda just shows how universally appreciated this song is, and how so many people feel it and love it. I know I do. |

Billy Joel – Modern Woman Lyrics

My parents always listened to Billy Joel when I was growing up, and I always dreamed that this song would describe me when I was older. I'm still amazed how he writes so many songs in which he just seems so amazed by women and they all seem totally genuine. |

The Smiths – Girlfriend in a Coma Lyrics
|
I downloaded this song after I read "Girlfriend in a Coma" by Douglas Coupland. I don't think there's a direct connection, other than the girl's in a coma, but they're both amazing. A must-read and a must-hear, to be cliche. |

a new jay-comment on this song:
"ya know how sometimes.. umm.. the neighbors in your building.. um.. will be, uh, loud? well, this song's about, well... what you might do when you hear them.. yeah." (or words to that affect)
in other words, this song really is about masturbation. ...as if there was ever a doubt. ;) |

Dar Williams – Are You Out There? Lyrics

this song really touches me. i think it's more than just worshipping the radio gods--it's realizing that you're not the only who feels like you do. you may never meet the people that you identify with, but you can hear them and know they've been where you are. it's all about the power of music and how you can be infinitely closer to the music love than the random people you see. |

Cake – Let Me Go Lyrics
|
i love this song... i've always thought it describes me, but perhaps that's wishful thinking. i think it all goes back to the saying that you only want what you can't have, so if she doesn't think he wants her, she'll want him more. |

Cake – Pretty Pink Ribbon Lyrics
|
I think that her 'pretty pink ribbon' is just the fact that she's female. It's always seemed like this song is just about how women have it easier, and how if they weren't women, they'd be completely different--'end up just like me.' He mentions things that are typically female, like tight denim, free tickets, etc. and basically says that if she wasn't a woman, these wouldn't be important and she'd change altogether. Kind of like radiocakedoves' and morningstar's ideas put together, but her redeeming quality is only that she's female. |

Radiohead – You Lyrics

i'm not sure what the first comments meant, but i think this song has a feeling like 'every breath you take' by the police. when you first listen to it, it seems like a love song, but when you pay attention to the words, it's far from that. regardless, it's an amazing song. |

"I'm not having any fun"

"I'm not happy"
"I wanna be happy, I'm not happy"
"I wanna go back"
"I'm over this, over this"
mumble "... make your money, don't complain, okay"
mumble"i'm tired, i don't care.. ya know... ooooh"
mumble w/ 2 or 3 voices
"oh god, why am i tired"
yeah. try listening to it w/ headphones.. you can hear more and it's awesome when the vocals open up to both channels... really emotional. |
