Ben Harper – Touch From Your Lust Lyrics 7 years ago
Is any of it religious maybe?
If it weren't for the chorus being about a she, perhaps i'd say about Jesus, or god at a stretch.

He mumbles the number reeeeaal quiet.
It's pretty close to the actual number too, heard that from the man himself.

Someone should get some other of his lyrics up on here, the album is so so so good. I'm not even kidding.

So true, it's such a good one.
I think the title translates more as I'll never hear the end of it.
But literally it does translate to I do not know the end

I reckon you might be on to something Replica, the final kiss could be Judas kissing Jesus and betraying him. Jesus made some people feel uneasy, right or wrong. They wanted him gone. This was the wrong thing to do. The wrong path etc...
thus, I love you.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Blank Page Lyrics 8 years ago
The expression "all the rage" means something hip or popular or "in - fact. Don't take it too literally for the song though. Think of it more like blank page was a fixation.
Again, the song is not angry. Rage is blatantly not a theme here. Just listen to it. Hear any rage? Didn't think so. It's just the word.
I'm so right.

It's one of those songs you always knew but never knew who it was by.
The ones that you hear as a kid, but never really knew who they were by.

Ryan Adams – Political Scientist Lyrics 8 years ago
I think the idea of a corrupt society is at the heart of this. But that's the least that could be said for it.

The first verse is important in a metaphorical sense. The water is like a symbol of power, the pipes are like the channels it travels through, that is , politics. It gets distilled through corrupt lines (as in, the rusty pipes, the supposed candy factory lines) The power of governing becomes damaged and badly used or something. The other verses feel like examples of of individual people suffering from this society. The first chorus/bridge is like a description of politicians. They live on the edge of town, away from the center, and all the troubles and injustices that might occur there.

You're probably a wanker.

Star wars is awesome.

Prince – If I Was Your Girlfriend Lyrics 8 years ago
That pretty much hit the nail on the head methinks. I love how he jsut adds in the little pervy bits at the end though. He ain't taking anything too sereiously.
However, I think that the ultimate version of this song is the live at paisley park version (sometimes credited on file sharing programs as being played with Miles Davis). I don't know if miles is on that one or not... But it has the same epic live feel as other prince songs like noting compares and purple rain. It's a lot longer, more instrumental, has an incredible atmosphere... seriously. It's my personal favorite prince song and it ain't too hard to find. Heck it's what started me on him.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Blank Page Lyrics 9 years ago
I think you guys are critically misinterpreting the rage line. All the rage is an expression to say that something is really hip, as in, when you were youn, marbles were all the rage. It's not an angry song.

Billy Corgan – DIA Lyrics 9 years ago
Without a doubt my favorite song on the album.
I guess it's about wondering what the future holds, maybe for for him and a partner? Sounds like he's addressing this song to someone and there's a sense of camaraderie, ("shoot the lights we'll get out right").

It's like he's learned something about a loved one that they wanted to hide, a lack of commitment maybe? ("i receive your signal down").

He's looking back on his relationship with this person ("i never lost you, circle my mistakes") and focusing on the bad points of it, things he might regret i guess.

The chorus just sounds like a frustrated sigh, weary of trying to reconcile reality with his dreams perhaps?

Bleh, there's stuff to be said for all the lines i'm sure, ive gone over some of em, I have some idea

Zwan – El Sol Lyrics 9 years ago
I think this song is about unrequited love, but in the sense of getting over it. He's speaking in the past tense about what he wanted. He has found release. The importance of release is shown in the opening line "empty up and help yourself to go", it's about detaching yourself from all the things that drag you down or that you stand to lose and living your life.

I'll take a stab at a second theme in these lyrics and that's of being forgotten by the person he loved "soon i'll be leaving left for dead". He's afraid for the person getting over him too fast and moving on faster than he is.
I guess it makes the song like a little high in between two phases of depression over a person whom he loves. There's a hint of apprehension about what the future holds despite having forgiven the past.

Ja, how about the "To all the empty souls who still despair" bit, empty souls is one of Nicky's ideas, unless he based it on Richey's line in this one if it's Richey's.

Bruce Hornsby – The Way It Is Lyrics 9 years ago
The color bar refers to segregation i think, when black people had to queue separately. It says even though the laws changed in the states (a civil Rights act passed by president Johnson in 64) it hasnt changed people's minds, and they are still influenced when choosing people for a job by their colour.

Jeff Buckley – Vancouver Lyrics 9 years ago
I think this song kinda goes with Morning theft off the same album. It's like he's feeling guilty towards a friend or someone else that he loves for feeling unsatisfied with their relationship.

Jeff Buckley – Morning Theft Lyrics 9 years ago
Same here, I think it's about being in love with a friend but the feeling is only making things rough between you. I think the "send it away" part is about blocking the person out for a bit until you get things back on track and bring it all back together again. There's also a bit of guilt in there. It kinda suggests that he feels bad about having this double set of feelings "a thief who stole from you" kind of like he's abused her trust. Also he's wondering if he's making too much fuss "some fool drama queen who's chances were few".
That's my take on it.
Yes i'ma bleeding heart internet yuppie who relates to everything. Sue me.

Jeff Buckley – Nightmares By The Sea Lyrics 9 years ago
I like pods explanation, I think that just about nails it, plus it's like he regrets these sort of experiences, there's and idea that they haunt him, in lines like the skeletons bit and the bones scratching the windows (ZOMBIES)

The Cure – Spilt Milk Lyrics 9 years ago
The chorus sounds like the promise. I agree tho, I think in this song he's just wondering if he's done the right thing, and if there's any point in worrying about it. In some parts it's like he's assessing what's really important to him " yeah ALL IT MEANS TO JUSTIFY THE ENDS" etc...

The Smashing Pumpkins – Speed Kills Lyrics 9 years ago
In the Machina concept story, this song is about is about June, Glass's girlfriend who is fucked out on drugs. I won't give a line by line analysis because I just don't know what each one means. I'm pretty sure most of it is pointing at the trip, speed, riding it, etc... and the second verse (first time i ever saw you) is about how Glass first met June, the bad state she was in, "waiting to be saved again".
One of the very best in the whole Machina set of albums, I'm surprised it only made it as a B-side.

The Cure – The Same Deep Water as You Lyrics 9 years ago
The more I look at it, the more the suicide pact thing makes sense. It's more as if the woman that Robert is with is leading the whole thing tho, ("swimming the same deep water as you is hard") and he finds it hard to keep up with her intense choice. The strangest twist upon her lips is the twisted epxression of "and we shall be together", words that she is saying (hence the "s). It's twisted cos theyll be together in death.
Man, what an album

The Smashing Pumpkins – Rain Drops + Sun Showers Lyrics 9 years ago
I think it's about a girl (june in the machina thing) who is on his mind, and he knows she has problems (rain falls on everyone- in her case, drug addiction) and he's trying to keep up with her and be there (I'm just trying to walk with you). All the verses are about him expressing his feelings wether he tells her or not, sending out prayers and all that, he's just concerned and worried about her.

Dio – Rainbow In The Dark Lyrics 10 years ago
dude, his voice is cool, but his lyrics seem to suck major ass from wat ive read on this song and others...
e.g.:
When there's lightning,
You know, it always bring me down.
Cause it's free and I see that it's me,

---subtle metaphor there dio, good on you

Do your demons,
Do they ever let you go?
When you've tried, do they hide, deep inside

---deary deary me, i see this two ways, 1, he's belting out the old cliches, 2, even worse, hes inventing the old cliches. Now i love the oldies, but this just hurts.
