The story behind the song is that one day Steven was trying to write, but it had been a long day. He was trying to give his two youngest adopted daughters, Maria (the one who died later), and Stevie Joy a bath, but they kept getting out of the tub and putting on their princess dresses! lol At first he was frustrated, but later he realized that these moments are precious, because before you know it they will be all grown up.

I agree. Another perfect rendition - in theme - to Butterfly Kisses.

this song was actually written before his daughters death. afterwards, though, it was extremely difficult for him to get on stage and sing it again in concert.

    absolutely amazing song.

Steven himself explains the story behind the song. Jamieanne92 is right, he was giving a bath to 2 of his daughters, Stevie Joy and Maria. It was frustrating, but he realized that these are the precious moments that will be gone before you know it. He wrote this before Maria's tragic death. Now the song has a whole new meaning.
