Just to add my tuppence worth, the first line is actually 'A love struck Romeo sings a street-suss serenade'. 'Suss' is British slang for knowledge or understanding or wise, and has been around for years although Mark may have been the first to combine it with 'street'. It literally means 'streetwise'.

Amazing; speechless.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”

That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I wonder if this is about losing his love in a car accident . Skulls collide and the bright white light. Head on collision. Rubber crutch is crutches when you break your leg, and he survived the crutch, but it’s also symbolic of her being his crutch, as alluded by past comment.

What does it for me is the next part. She’s gone and he only has her memories, which he cherishes dearly. He believes and prays for the day they will be together again, no matter what divides them, heaven and earth.

Listened to this a lot 25 years ago when I my gf broke up with me and this was a song our group always liked, and loved this band. Then when my dad died this last Christmas I found the song again and gave it new meaning, as the memories and pictures were all I had.
This track is a restless blast of power-punk about wanting to begin again while still contending with what's in the past.

The line, "Daddy you've been a mother to me," is not a positive thing in my brain. Daddy has not been supportive. What I hear is a "Daddy you've been a motherf****r to me." Totally open to interpretation, of course. But, I think that's more interesting, and I think Tom might agree.

Haven't figured out a meaning for the line: "found her hiding high up in the family tree." Was Grandpa or Grandma trying to shelter her from the punishment? Or is it a literal tree that the family owns? Or just a really catchy line that Tom came up with? I'd vote for door number 3 right now, but it might be all of the above.
A song with a positive outlook on life. The sun hits the sky symbolises a radiant and uplifting atmosphere. The verses point to a freedom of expression and that we shouldn't be tongue tied and repressed but should speak openly and be honest. The Doctor in the chorus can be associated with someone who is healing, understanding and gives positive guidance. The lyrics overall show that we should avoid negative influences that hold us back and have a positive state of mind
