Todd Rundgren - Real Man

When I was a child
I thought as a child
I spoke as a child
I didn't know better
But now I'm a man
I look like a man
I'm old as a man
And I should know better
Got my head in the sky
And my mind knows what it wants
But my body just drags me down
And my world is something you can't see
But it's still very real to me
You can find it in the hole where I keep my soul
There it is - way down inside me
There's a real man
Forget about my body and be a real man

I see with my heart
I hear with my heart
I feel with my heart
Sometimes it works better
And some so-called friends put me down
And they pity me for trying
Bad emotions push me around
But the vision shines on and on
It will shine when we all are gone
And I'd like to add a little sparkle while I'm here
Light it up - way down inside me
There's a real man
Forget about bad feelings and be a real man

Some men's world is only hate and money
Afraid of everything and they laugh at nothing
And they only live to criticize
You can laugh at me now [ha ha ha]
But the time comes to everybody
When you must decide
When that day finally comes along
You might wish you'd been a little more strong
Then you'll wake up in the morning cryin'
    "Oh my God"
There it is - way down inside me
It's a real man
You got to grow up sometime
Be a real man
Suffer them slings and arrows
Be a real man
Now be a real man
Don't sell yourself for nothing
Be a real man
Don't take no crap from no one
Be a real man
Get your trip together
Be a real man

Happy Anniversary -Todd Rundgren

Come to me, she said, my girl
I must teach you of the world
It is full of hungry men
Who will drag you to their den
But their feelings they won't share
And of yours they do not care
And they think that they're so smart
But they're not

Men are stupid, men are stupid
And that's just the way it's got to be
Happy anniversary

Come to me my boy, he said
Better get this in your head
All the girls will use their sex
To get a yoke around your neck
Then they'll try to make you change
And when they fail, hold you to blame
And they don't care what's real or true
Like we do

Women are evil, women are evil
And that's just the way it's got to be
Happy anniversary

You'd like to change it but there ain't no way
Cause you're a slave to your DNA
It's so unfair but it's the game we play
We're only slaves to our DNA

Men are stupid, women are evil
Happy anniversary
And is that the way it has to be?
Happy anniversary

Woman's World

It's a woman's world
It's a woman's world, a woman's world

She was the doe who mothered Bambi
I was the brave and magnificent stag
Let's not pretend I'm more than handy
Now that the pussy cat's out of the bag
'Cause it's a woman's world
I was not asked, I was not confronted
But I must admit
In most ways it's the thing that I wanted

Now it's a woman's world, don't get excited
It's a woman's world, 'cause it always was
It's a woman's world, don't fight the feeling
It's a woman's world, a woman's world

She will outlive me, that's for certain
It's a statistical fait accompli
And when I make that final curtain
She'll write an embarrassing book about me
'Cause it's a woman's world
It's been declared, just lower your weapon
And I must admit
It crossed my mind this finally would happen

Now it's a woman's world, nobody panic
It's a woman's world, 'cause it always was
It's a woman's world, and you're gonna love it
It's a woman's world, a woman's world

Every eye gets a little wetter in a woman's world
And every child gets fed much better in a woman's world
We may hold our grudges a little longer in a woman's world
But when we break down the love's so much stronger in a woman's world
And white boy, you come around here
With nothin' but a handful of cash
You need a big black mamma to teach you some manners
And a little blonde to wash your ass

'Cause don't you know that it's a woman's world
It's a woman's world, 'cause it always was
It's a woman's world, take me, I'm ready
It's a woman's world, a woman's world

It's a woman's world
The masquerade is finally over
And I must admit I fell for it
You just have to love her

It's a woman's world
It's been declared, just lower your weapon
And I must admit
It crossed my mind this finally would happen
It's a woman's world
I was not asked, I was not confronted
But I must admit
In most ways it's the thing that I wanted

It's a woman's world
I'm ready now, I'm into the program
And I must admit
I'm trying my best at being a ladies man

In a woman's world, calm down everybody
It's a woman's world, and it always was
It's a woman's world
It's a woman's world, a woman's world

Now it's a woman's world, don't get excited
It's a woman's world, 'cause it always was
It's a woman's world, don't fight that feeling
It's a woman's world, a woman's world

Everybody it's a woman's world, don't nobody freak out
It's a woman's world, 'cause it always was
It's a woman's world, and you're sure gonna love it
It's a woman's world, a woman's world

No surprises, it's a woman's world
It's a woman's world

It's absolutely fabulous

ta- i didn't actually think anyone would reply, but there you go. aahh- maybe i should have been more specific, songs about females, and maybe some more mainstream ones? (cos it might help if i've actually heard of them). sorry about that ;p. i'll be sure to read these though.

this is a pretty good upbeat catchy -- and yet SOULFUL! -- song about our standards of beauty, materialism, etc. i would say at least check out the lyrics and see if it fits the assignment.

rx bandits - sell you beautiful

"Baby, you know if you’re not beautiful
Just cover it up
With make-up kits and perforated scalpel seams
We’ll do you right up
I’m so obsessed with looking like the magazines
Make myself throw up
But it’s all right cause one day
I know I’ll be fine like everyone else"

"Seneca Falls" by the Distillers would be a pretty good one. It might coincide better with a history class, but whatever.

The most typical OLP song I can think of has very typical lyrics, but I think it has what you're looking for.

For the verse about the female:

"Oh, and Tina losing faith in what she knows!

Hates her music, hates all of her clothes,

Thinks of surgery and a new nose,

Every calorie's a war!

Well, she wishes she was a dancer,

And that she'd never heard of cancer,

She wishes God would give her some answers

And make her feel beautiful."

[Innocent - Our Lady Peace]

...fuck it, bring back old Our Lady Peace!
