Serenity is an Austrian symphonic metal band formed in 2001. Most of their music focuses on historical figures and events, including Sir Francis Drake, Marco Polo, Galileo, Beethoven, and Napoleon. The band mixes melodic and symphonic metal elements with progressive influences to attain a melodic, technical sound. Serenity currently have produced four studio albums and two demos.
The band's name was directly influenced by the short-lived sci-fi TV series "Firefly". In an interview with Valkyrian Music, bassist Fabio D'Amore, who would join the band in 2010, talks about the band name Serenity, saying, "Serenity is a sci-fi movie, based on the fanta-western TV series called "Firefly". It’s an awesome movie, and the also the TV series is incredible. When the band was put together, the influence of "Firefly" on our artistic work was huge, so the logical result was taking the name of the spacecraft as the band’s name."
Though the band has released four studio albums, none of the band members are full-time musicians. Vocalist Georg Neuhauser has a Masters of Science degree in geography and teaches history, and is at the time of this writing working on his doctoral thesis.[Thomas Buchberger has experience with web development and marketing, does web layout & design. Drummer Andreas Schipflinger is a research & development technician for cochlear hearing aids, while Bass Guitaris Fabio D'Amore is a sound engineer and studio manager as well as a teacher for both the bass and music theory.
